It just gets worse by the day now it's come to light the taxpayers picked up the tab in Paris for Anika Wells meal at the cost of unbelievably $1,000 and at the same meal the taxpayers picked up the tab for $750 for wine. Where are you Albo?

Hopefully she gets the demotion she deserves for having her snout in the trough... & should put others on notice for stop treating the public like fools.

There really should be an independent audit committee properly reviewing all these claims.

There is, it's called the Independent Parliamentary Expenses Authority.

To the letter of the law, she's done nothing wrong. She hasn't claimed anything she's not legally entitled to.

However, her claims are excessive to the point that they clearly don't pass the "sniff test". What's legal, and what fails the "sniff test" or "pub test", are two different things.

Their letter of their laws are a ****ing joke! Any ways, she hasn't properly followed procedure.

Her claims are incredibly excessive & wouldn't pass any normal test. The "independent" parliamentary expenses authority are another joke. Problem is neither side want to close the loophole to rorting taxpayers.

Heard David and Wills go on about her trip to New York. $100,000 for a 3 day trip and 6 minute speech at the UN with 2 staff.

What a horrid individual.

She may not have broken the law as far as the use of tax payer expenses go but she is clearly abusing the privilege which is grounds for dismissal.

The expenses are there and she is entitled to them. She may not have broken the law but she is excessively accessing them which is grounds for Albo to remove her from her portfolio. Which he should. She has lost the trust of the Australian public. It would almost be a certainty she is the sort of individual that has maximised credit cards, large house and car loans.

Wells had not fully declared everything, so she has failed to follow procedure.

Having a parliamentary driver wait for football grandfinals or concerts doesn't pass any pub test. It's abusing her position. It's different to wasting money on an official business trip, which is another issue.

Once you abuse your position over & over, in any normal situation, you lose your job. Albanese should remove her & there should be a proper enquiry into politicians rorting... but wr know neither major party will support this.

Said this at the last election, but I can see it being Labor v One Nation in the future. Populist politics has taken longer here than other countries, but it’s inevitable imo. Could be wrong and I’ve been wrong a lot with political predictions 😂

Cost to overhaul Australia’s power grid tipped to rise to $128bn, says AMEO draft plan​

The cost to revamp Australia’s electricity system to run mainly on wind and solar by 2050 has skyrocketed to $128 billion, a new plan reveals.

The biggest bill the nation faces in the pursuit of net zero just got $3 billion bigger.
The Australian Energy Market Operator’s official cost estimate for revamping the electricity system to run mainly on wind and solar by 2050 has been revised up to $128bn versus $125bn about 18 months ago.

AEMO’s draft “Integrated System Plan”, released today, says more large-scale renewable developments will be required after it wound back forecasts for the average size of new rooftop PV systems since the final version of the previous blueprint was published in June 2024.

The draft plan also warns of “higher capital costs for transmission”, noting individual project building budgets have risen by “up to 100 per cent”.

Ordinarily that could be expected to ring alarm bells for consumers because network outlays are recouped by increasing retail power prices.
“Slower progress will erode benefits to consumers and present risks to reliability,” AEMO Daniel Westerman said.

This concern is called out because transmission projects across the nation are already way behind original schedules.

For example, Victoria’s Western Renewables Link is expected to start operating in June 2029. That’s two years later than estimated in 2023.

Part of the Sydney Ring project has suffered a similar delay, and is forecast to begin carrying power in November 2029.

The same is true of Queensland’s Copper String project, now tipped come to online in June 2031.

A large transmission project cannot move through a regulatory approval process until it is “actionable” under AEMO’s plan.

In setting the plan for essential electricity infrastructure, AEMO has to consider price, safety, reliability – and reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

She was the second most expensive politician in terms of family travel costs, behind only Andrew Willcox who has a shadow ministry position and has served on several joint committees for Northern Australia.
While the Perth–Canberra corridor dominated the spending, the senator’s family travel claims also include flights to a wide range of destinations.

Well that's a big nothing-burger for gullible fools like you to swallow.

Flight destinations including Karratha, Geraldton, Kalgoorlie-Boulder, Broome and Kununurra. All of which are expensive flights to locations in WA. She's a WA Senator. Of those locations, only Broome would be considered a holiday destination - and it's more likely than not that her trip was for work purposes anyway.

There's a good reason why 10 of the top-20 are from WA or NT (including your beloved Jacinta Price). Flights to/from and within WA and the NT are far more expensive than the MEL/SYD/BNE/CBR shuttles.

Talk about a big "nothing to see here" article.

Yes, she's racked up more expenses than anyone else, but it's all clearly been as a result of doing her job, and wanting to have her young family close to her when she's doing it (as she's entitled to do).

If you really want to pick on someone, I suggest having a closer look at Don Farrell (ALP). He managed to rack up bills totaling more than $48K, despite serving a (relatively low cost) SA electorate. I could easily understand the Trade Minister scoring big international travel bills, but domestic expenses are less understandable.

International students, Kiwis, an “astonishing” number of people on bridging visas, and failed asylum seekers awaiting deportation now make up 10 per cent of the population, Home Affairs figures show.

The total number of temporary visa holders in the country has increased by around 1.2 million since 2019, a nearly 70 per cent rise, to 2,925,604 at the end of October.

I agree - she was elected as an ALP Senator, and has little hope of being re-elected as an Independent (or "Voices") candidate, when her current Senate term expires. None of that has anything to do with her claiming of family expenses for domestic travel, as part of her parliamentary work.

Nice attempt at deflection. Now, care to address the real topic being discussed?
