When I was a kid I was with my father and we were walking somewhere and happened to walk past a local soccer field where there was this massive fight between dozens of people going, punches, kicks, all that, and we found out that one of the soccer teams was mostly Croatian immigrants and the other team was mostly Serbian immigrants.

I didn't understand the relevance of that at the time but now thinking back on it it annoys me a lot that these people moved to Australia and brought their hatred of each other with them.

Our innocence died a long time ago.

It's nearly 30 years since the Port Arthur massacre. Over 40 years since the Milperra massacre and nearly 40 years since the Queen and Hoddle Street shootings. The Strathfield massacre was in the early 90s. And they are just the ones I can remember off the top of my head.............

Sadly, what happened today isn't new or unprecedented in this country.
