Here's a Sky News link just to annoy the usual suspects around here:

So we have two Muslims who allegedly trained with ISIS (the first I is for Islamic) that attacked a Hannukah event.

But it's not nothing to do with religion.

If zionism is political ideology, not religious ideology... then is anti-zionism political as well?

Not saying they aren't religious, but this might be politically motivated. Either way, they are still terrorists.

Which is precisely why normally it's a bi-partisan approach to calm things down, not inflame them.
As was the case when gun laws were introduced under Howard. Conservatives politicising deaths is quite pathetic but not surprising

Populism? According to our PM the Australian position is that we support Israel and supply military exports and are against antisemitism but also we want a ceasefire and recognise a state of Palestine. Pick a lane m8.
I call that sensible policy, all elements you mentioned arent mutually exclusive

ISRAEL IS NOT JUDAISM.

How many times does that need to be repeated to sink in?

What I’m still trying to get my head around…

We all agree this incident was caused by radicalisation…. And we all agree anti semitism (and islamophobia) and other forms of vitriolic hate are abhorrent….

So why are is the government response to this not focused on ending radicalisation, extremism (white nationalism, Islamists etc), anti semitism, Islamophobia etc? Why aren’t they pouring everything they have into it? Because if we can sort that then the problem is fixed.

But instead the main outcome of this is more gun control, not a peep about anything else. So the 999,998 other firearms owners who are vastly responsible, wise, accountable, all have to pay a debt of their liberties.
Let me be clear I am not opposed to some tightening of gun laws… but when that’s the front page of the response from our government…. It deeply concerns me that it is reactionary and misguided… because if ending radicalisation in this country is not the overwhelming focus then I’m afraid we will absolutely see this happen again.
Albo has always been an antisemite… all the way back to his university days.

Being pro Palestine is not anti semitism.
FFS why are you lot not getting it?

He didn’t call Bondis massacre Islamic terrorism either…
In fact he went in with some rant about right wing violence.
Yeah, that was cooked, but this old footage is hardly damning.
Best not go down the rabbit hole of promoting whacko false flag theories from random social media bloggers looking for clicks, eh.
Whenever Jews are murdered, antisemitism presents in the same ways. Either it actually didn’t happen, or they had it coming, or they orchestrated it and were pulling the strings the whole time.

Antizionism is just the "N-word" of antisemitism.

Every Islamic terrorist attack in the West is politically motivated because the politics of the West are not the politics of Islam. The West is for the most part secular. It's a bit of a semantic argument whether motivations are religious or political because they intertwine.

ISIS is Islamic State in Iraq and Syria, sometimes Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant. Is that a religious movement, a political movement, or both? Anyway it's a bit of a tangent but Islamic fundamentalists don't want to live in the secular West and freely practice their religion - they want their religion to be to take the place of the secular West.

Which reminds me, has anyone bothered to check old mate Warren Tredrea so see if he's posted about this tragedy on his podcast.

A false flag theory about this tragedy would seem right up his alley.

far too scientific for me, scottie..

so you like babies getting bombed?

Richard Marles asked point blank if they need to do something more about Islamic hate speech by Muslim Clerics in the West of Sydney. Mumbles about the Nazi salute as if that means anything to this context and refuses to answer the question.

This is the fundamental flaw with Labor politics they cannot and will not act to protect Australians for fear of being considered "racist".

They are despicable, evil people.
Evil people? How are they evil people?

And they have come out since the shooting saying that will crack down against hate speech.

My belief is that when a human being is radicalized you'll never understand the motivation of such extreme views because the individual has to get to a level of insanity to make the choice to go out and kill large numbers of people that have no connection with the life he lead. That's why I can't accept reasons like he did it because of the atrocities that Israel is committing on Palestinians, or he did it because the Jew is the enemy of the Muslim (Muslim convert).

You can connect it to being religiously indoctrinated. The people he targeted were clearly of another religion. That's a link, but how he chose that path is different from understanding the reason why? Someone that commits such a crime probably doesn't even know himself because they have to be out of their mind not to know right from wrong. If you join a group then that pathway for your madness can be planned out for, but you have to be looking for that path to follow.

Here, Lachie the person who worked with him for 5 years said that he wanted to be remembered.

If ISIS is the pathway he follows, then he would also know to hate the Shia* Iranians, so we can pretty much rule out an attack by Iran -the country that Israel most wants to war with given that Israel's leader perceives all the terrorists attacks against it are funded from there.

We've been warned since September 11, 2001 that the coming decades would see more soft target attacks. Perhaps there were some checks that ASIO could have followed up more closely to help identify this person earlier, especially with the amount of guns the father owned, but if you read the reports on every antisemitic incident in this country and put each one on high alert how far would your resources stretch? These seemingly lone wolf (in this case father & son) attacks have happened in other cities western & non-western all around the world.

Edit I meant Shia* not Sunni. Not sure if anyone has already picked it up and requoted. I was reading Sharia and I figure I've reached my limit on posting. My nurse is coming around with a brand new needle and a box of jelly tots, so I'll call it a night for now.
