Most of Canberra looks like Morphett Vale.

Can't really disagree.. especially the older areas around belco and tuggers..

Ngunnawal and some of the newer areas look good though. And they're actually investing in medium/high density housing and apartment blocks rather than just spreading out further.. there's a lesson in that

I can't gel with Canberra parts of it look pretty, but the gubment hub design of the place leaves me as cold as the politicians that occupy it.
My feelings too. In a way I'm okay with my departments budget being squeezed to the point where travel to Canberra is ruled out in 2026.

Is there a breakdown of the types of crime or the location?

also - since those are totals not per capita - how much the population has grown over those 9 years.

don't mind me, too much christmas booze already ;)

I like coles brand party mix more than the name brands.
Now with the supermarkets being so demanding the quality of home brand products has dramatically increased.
Coles and Woolies both carry out very strict audits twice a year to make sure of the quality is up to the standard they expect.
Today basically a lot of home brand products are exactly the same as a branded ones, the only difference being the bagging.

We have the same issues here in Canberra as the rest of the country does re housing availability and affordability - with a growing Labor govt locally and federally there is more population growth than was planned for.

Some areas are being densified, sadly the quality of some of these developments is variable. Public transport remains an issue because the spread out nature of original development, and no investment in transport corridors. Urban Canberra covers about the same area as Singapore, and has 1/12 of the population.

Manuka Oval is in a pretty spot, close to an upper class urban centre and not far from the city. It will therefore never be developed further because of nimbyism.

How do you reconcile your disapproval of the Labor govt there, issues of public transport, and the libs wanting to scrap the light rail projects?

The hub design is the best bit, reduces traffic heaps because you can get everything you need in your own little hub. Works brilliantly.

Meanwhile Adelaide has 30 years of south road works to upgrade the goat track that 400k people try to get into the city on every day

Funny story, well, not really funny, or much of a story, but my first real job out of high school was an IT traineeship at morphett vale high school.

Nothing too exciting, except the kids loved playing ganja farmer on the computers, and that time some kid brought in a cd with pr0n on it. Oh, and their favourite thing was stealing the mouse balls out of the computer mice. We'd have to super glue them so you couldn't unlock them.

We were doing some bullshit analysis on the Lion King for English and we were in the computer pool and a mate of mine got up to go to the toilet, so I loaded his browser up with some site called The Lion King Hardcore for everyone to see and him to return to. Scar was getting it done.

My issue with the territory govt is basically that we shouldn't have one, as it duplicates a lot of federal/state functions that could be delivered by NSW (eg, there is no ACT Police force, it is outsourced to the AFL who have an ACT policing division).

The current Labor govt though is stale and takes the electorate for granted, having been in power since 2001. Basic maintenance is neglected and capital projects just aren't keeping pace with increased demand. The major issue though is that the light rail (which we could never afford) is soaking up every budget dollar, and other programs are being cut. The bus service runs for the benefit of unions and is in dire need of a rejigging. Residential rates here are the highest in the country and they've just added a $100 "health levy" because the health budget is shot.

The next planned light rail extension (to Woden) is now costed at $3bn, which for a city of around 300,000 taxpayers is lunacy. Especially as it will deliver a tram trip that will be longer and less direct than the existing (electric) bus.

I have sympathy with the stated opposition position of not spending any more money on it, yes.
