I think congratulations are in order for whoever decided to start the "New Year" test on a Sunday on the 4th January.

They have managed to time it perfectly for the Sydney weather forecast.

And perfectly timed for many corporate slaves headed back to the middle management mines on day 2. Honestly CA seem to be doing a perfect job of booking an all-time garbage schedule this year.

I can't figure out who that is bowling, is it Jhye?

Wouldn't read much into it regardless, all the pacers are likely exhausted and if the squad think spin will be important to face, having some part timer shit in the nets couldn't hurt while the pacers get some light movement in.

Yeah, it is. He often rolls a few out as part of his warm-up. Just a bit of fun.

I would have thought Saturday would be the latest day you would start. Obviously they dont know the forecast when they schedule it but Saturday would be a no brainer to me.

It's Jhye which makes it that little bit stranger

For a guy who has a history of shoulder problems, I don't get why they'd be getting him to bowl spin in the nets - unless it's something that helps with shoulder movement

Bowling has never actually been the cause of any of his shoulder issues.

The worst Aussie summer I've seen in years. I barely feel like I've had any sideways on the couch time. The long time between tests combined with short matches is just a total shitshow.
By the time i got sideways Boxing Day i had to get up again. Perth likewise. Us couch potatos are a victim of this scheduling debacle

I went to my GP with a sore back once and he offered to write me a prescription saying: “No vacuuming for six months.”
I really should have accepted it — it was the foreboding of an adverse reaction on the home front that stopped me.
I would have scribbled washing, dishes, general household tasks underneath

It would make more sense for the Sydney test to start on Saturday but CA lack common sense as much as the AFL, if not more.

CA are incompetent, and I'd argue Greenberg is the dumbest campaigner to ever hold the position, but cricket has a far easier decision making tree than AFL do in regards to sucking off the broadcasters. But he's likely designed to be the hated CEO to sell off the BBL and then a "cricket fan first" CEO to follow him.

I feel like we're in an awkward state with globalisation where we don't understand how to retain things that are still beneficial internally rather than worrying about making the most money possible. We're not as late-stage capitalism as the seppos, but we spent 15 years of money on a league that was seen as a shitshow, only to sell it off when it finally has some respect. And 0 of that Indian/Saudi money will go to Test cricket despite all the sacrifices Test cricket has taken to build the league to this point.

When the BBL first started it was looked at being flogged off. Eddie McGuire was smart enough then as the Stars president to know it was a bad idea. He knew fans were more attracted to things that "belonged to them" as it were.

The stars were green because the idea was to sell it to some Pakistan businessesman

We were in all sorts from memory and he put on 70-80 for the last 2 wickets? Roger Harper bowling slow motion because it’s cooler
We were deadset gone…plenty left, I contemplated it. Reiffel and Bevan put on 80. Bevan was in the absolute zone.

CA putting all the ODI games behind a paywall and not fixturing any of them here in January/February was a huge mistake.

Watching all the ODIs in the 80s back then was one of the reasons I got hooked on cricket as a kid, now kids look elsewhere.

My 9 year old nephew is more into basketball and his favourite player is Steph Curry, it should be cricket and Travis Head.

I would prefer it if his favourite cricketer was Rachin Ravindra but the Black Caps get less coverage than the Aussie team.
