The time has come here in hell to restart a tradition that has been culturally significant to generations of Australia's who had nothing but free to air television, Sunday night at the movies.

The premise: Each Sunday a poster who wants to be part of this will be selected on a rotational basis to select a movie for us to watch. We have a week to watch the movie if and when we can and discuss it in this thread. Preferably we would select a movie that is available on the free to air streaming services such as SBS on Demand, 7 Plus and so on. As most have Netflix or Prime so this is also an option.

There is no obligation, just an opportunity to perhaps have movies suggested to you you might never watch otherwise and do likewise for others. Also the opportunity to discuss the movie and you opinions on it. Anyone welcome to jump in at any time.

to find out what movie is on what streaming service check out: https://www.justwatch.com/

I’d like to recommend Souleymayne’s Story but you’d need to pay to watch it. One of the best films I’ve seen in a while (in my opinion of course).

I’m going to suggest a movie that I hadn’t seen before that my GF put on that was better than I thought it would be. The movie is Prisoners.
2013 movie?

Am I correct it can be watched on ABC?

My first recollection of seeing a movie was Popeye with Robin Williams at the Monash drive-ins in like 1981.
This was my local!! Until Village Southland opened up anyway. I think I mentioned this before.

Can't remember the first movie I saw there, maybe Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom? Spaceballs and A Night On The Town were early ones too. All I remember from Temple of Doom was a dude having his heart ripped out. I must have been four at the time.

Dad a massive Ford station wagon, and my sister and I were good at hiding. ****ing love the drive in. Never really went to the cinemas much until the 90s, I thought it was really strange went I found out most people didn't go to the drive ins and went to the cinema instead.

Oh I have had that on the list for ages but never get around to it

Prisoners that is
This has happened so many times in this thread. Been about 5 movies that were on my list but never watched and another 5-10 I would never have watched if it wasn't for this thread.

That is a great first few movies to have seen at the drive ins. I remember some of early movies I saw being the ROTJ, Raiders, the never ending story, the dark crystal and E.T.

I used to go with a few mates when we were teenagers and there would always be at least two of us stuffed in the boot.

Late 90's to early 2000's were when I went to the movies a lot. Probably only been to the movies a hand full of times in the last dozen years.

My local was Chaddy back in the day.

Seen Prisoners before. Very good movie. Massive fan of Denis Villeneuve.
I haven't seen his froggy stuff but between Prisoners and Blade Runner 2049 he didn't miss a shot. Arrival in particular is killer.

Dune bored the pants of me tho (yes I realise that's a hot take)

I saw his first french-canadian movie Polytechnic. It was a pretty straightforward somber movie about a uni shooting by some misogynist incel type.

Nothing amazing but you could see a confident director nailing the assignment.

I also love his surrealist thriller Enemy, also with Jake Gyllenhaal. But Arrival is right up there in my top 5 movies ever.

Dune as a book is basically unfilmable. I liked the new ones but I get why some would not be into it.

Haha, first time I watched it before I read the book or knew the story and I had no idea what to make of it. It was bonkers.
Saw it again recently, very strange film!
