Unless they can craft a role for Sonsie to improves the team and plays to his strengths, I can’t see how he can overcome his obvious weaknesses. Those weaknesses centre around contested football both being fearless and physically strong.

I also clearly see that he doesn’t like the hard stuff. He is trying now, but you can see his trepidation when he does go in, it’s not natural. When he has the ball under pressure in afl games he rushes disposal. Panic merchant might be too harsh but he is at times, which makes it look like he doesn’t have the skills talked about. He does have great skills, but has to find that confidence, poise and mental strength to be willing to take the hit. Maybe with a more mature body and confidence from his training intensity? Haven’t written him off just yet, if it all clicks he’d be an asset. Clock at quarter to midnight!

And of course, not every player of every team likes the "hard stuff".
Horses for courses. Nick Daicos has been seen to shy away from contests, and yet he is in the top 2 or 3 players I wouldn't hesitate trying to get if he was available.
Not every player is an inside beast. Having said that, he has to maximise his weapons, which include delivery into the forward line with either foot. Improving his aerobic capacity with a strong preseason is crucial for him to be able to hit those targets consistently and frequently. At least he is giving himself the best chance to make it.

Still just a pre season scrap, of course it’s better than him struggling but it’s the type of hitout where clear best 22 just go through the motions, players pull tackles and don’t b line the contest just to get the rust off so it’s hard to actually gauge how good he’s actually going

Right now it’s jus pre season hype and most of the time pre season hype boys disappoint

That's the thing though, they are free to bag the bejesus out of a player, sound in the knowledge that if he does come good, they will still get to enjoy the proceeds of this player's good work, just like the rest of us.

Receipts are very rarely kept on here. A "sacrilege scoreboard" would be a useful addition to these boards to make the habitual baggers accountable down the line for all of their gobshyting of our players.

Yeh. But he’s playing against his mates and nobody is looking to hurt him.you can’t question his skills and at VFL level he can find the footy. Where he’s struggled is when it’s red hot at AFL level and the opposition is cracking in. I want him to succeed, but I don’t see it happening.

This is absolute rubbish. It’s okay to dislike certain players on our list. I’ve bagged MRJ, Hugo, Ryan and Sonsie and there are a couple more on our list I’m still a little down on. The reason is because I don’t think these players have what it takes to make it in the AFL as good contributing footballers for the Richmond football club. Do I want them to fail, absolutely not. As they’re on the list I’d be rapt if they became quality contributors and good AFL footballers, however, I don’t see these players who I have labelled as list cloggers making it. I feel they take games from more deserving youngsters yet they have not staked a position in our top 23. Fringe players are always debated and it seems that if you call out a player as not good enough you’re called a hater or habitual bagger. This would be a very dull site if we didn’t have debate and disagreement.

Over the years some of the players I’ve bagged have made it. I’m very okay with that.

You make a good point here. Rushing to judgement is probably not a very useful way to conduct yourself.

There are probably some very specific times we need to rush to judgement in life. But mostly when it comes to judging future performance, it is best to reserve judgement for as long as possible. Definitely where footballers are concerned. Otherwise after 10 games we are saying Rance is shit and Cumberland is a gun.

I feel like Richard Tambling might have had similar issues. Good skills but under pressure of games-whether from potential contact or otherwise- just struggled to showcase his skills.
I also recall him being good last preseason.

I remember RT would seem to be cleary able to get to the ball first, but seemed to prefer to just slow down to be second and in prime position to tackle. Preferred being chaser to being chased, I reckon, all in the head, maybe worried about criticism of his disposal.
