And the AFL would want a top 10 stillWhatever it takes to get a FAIR comp where each team plays each team home and away, is what I crave- will never happen in my lifetime. But a 12-14 team comp would work.

Don't get me wrong, I agree entirely. And they should [I love that word] utilise both home grounds in doing so. Sadly I think both are as likely as me walking on the moon before I leave this mortal coil.unlikely
playing each team twice, home and away, is the ONLY way a comp will ever be fair.
It's frustrating because the AFL, especially when they bring in the inevitable 20th team, can then have a season where every team plays each other home one year and away the next and then it leaves 4 extra games for a 23 round season.Whatever it takes to get a FAIR comp where each team plays each team home and away, is what I crave- will never happen in my lifetime. What did Docherty say about Carlton?
Headlines etc make it sound like he's talking about the club as a whole but it was about their onfield performance - basically that when they start losing the inside contest everything else collapses and that it's been that way for a while. What did Docherty say about Carlton?
I mean I think that is absolutely 'fairer' but does it really change that the quality of comp is really uneven across each season? If your trips to WA and SA one year were WCE and Port, and your opponent for a top four spot got Freo and Adelaide, that's a big advantage. It's frustrating because the AFL, especially when they bring in the inevitable 20th team, can then have a season where every team plays each other home one year and away the next and then it leaves 4 extra games for a 23 round season.
1 of those games can be Gather Round aka Gimmick Round and the other 3 can be rivalry matches that gets re-evaluated every 4 seasons.
I mean they could implement it now and it shits me that they refuse to do it.
Hell if they really want to appease to the advertisers they could rip of the champions league (they steal from every other sport) and have teams play each other once at home or away one season, and the opposite the next and then have an AFL legend at an event draw the numbers to see who teams play the extra 3 or 4 times per season so it's totally random.
So many simple, fair ways to un**** the fixture and they won't.
He told the truth and said Carlton were a 'sh*t show'.
Its offended some egos.
"Exactly what happened again last night, is the same s**t that happens in every other game," Docherty said in a voice message that Gorringe played on his Dan Does Footy podcast.
"When the game's hot and contested and pressurised, Carlton is good in that environment. But as soon as some team can do somewhat good in the contest, the rest of the game just f***ing falls to pieces.
"They get under pressure, they can’t get a hold of the ball and they’re just an absolute f***ing sh**show.
"Essentially, because the game gets somewhat slower and there's more open brand footy, that’s when Carlton is f***ing horrible.
"Basically, you smack our mids again this year, and we'll be f***ed, going off last night."

And they've banned him?
Truth hurts I guess.
No to rivalry matches - they're great when they happen organically but they lose lustre when manufactured. It's frustrating because the AFL, especially when they bring in the inevitable 20th team, can then have a season where every team plays each other home one year and away the next and then it leaves 4 extra games for a 23 round season.

There's myriad examples of how Collingwood are a protected species in this competition. But this continued inequity is definitely one of them. Every other 'big' Victorian club has played at our ground this century. But the precious Pies are apparently exempt. It's time Collingwood travelled down the highway and played Geelong in Geelong. That hasn't happened since 1999 and no amount of excuses should be used such as "Collingwood are a big club etc etc"
Yeah but this is a bit rich coming from a tiger. If their team wasn't so crap right now, we'd be playing our home games against them at the MCG too. There's myriad examples of how Collingwood are a protected species in this competition. She's got an Agenda (a no-no for a journalist). She's trying to bestow respect/credence by the ounce that Richmond lost by the gallons over few decades. My gripe with her is she has never at any point provided any actual football analysis. It's all off-field stuff, and the more coaches or boards get knifed, the happier she is. Offers absolutely nothing.

Docherty's comments weren't that remarkable. Particularly when you consider they were made in a private phone call to a guy who is supposedly one of his 'best mates'.The other issue with the Docherty statement is that they weren't publically said comments
Daniel Gorringe aired the private voice recording from Docherty, on his pod cast
Docherty has said he stands by the comments, but I'm pretty sure that if he was to be making those comments publically, that he may have censured a few things first
