A few years back when everton were close to going down there were stories at the time that not all their players had them in their contracts

I thought Maguire said they were but could be imagining it.
Could be the case. Never in my time supporting Spurs did I ever think relegation release clause would be a topic of discussion. The slow train wreck the last 7 years has felt like eventually this would be the last stop. Its kinda laughable it has got to this point really

Not all clubs would have relegation release clauses, but they would have relegation clauses that cut wages significantly.

I dont think Spurs will go down.

And while I would certainly enjoy it I'm not sure it would be the worst thing for the club and more importantly the supporters.

I do reserve the right to find it very funny and celebrate as such regardless.
I lived in Newcastle and their supporters learned to love dominating the Championship.

It could be a fun season for Spurs supporters if they go down, as long as they don't do what Sunderland did.

Considering your manager got away with making up a BS excuse for calling VAR/Refs a disgrace...

Two different things. Arteta was whinging about poor standards of refereeing. Yeah, probably OTT. But Rodri was questioning referees' integrity and implying they were biased against City.

An £80,000 fine sounds a lot but it's all funny money when you're on £11,700,000 a year plus bonuses. A one game ban would be more impactful. Like I said, his manager needs to keep him away from the cameras. He can't help himself from blurting some garbage.

A punishment entirely consistent with every other punishment given out to players charged wity similar offences (actually a fair bit higher fine). I can't think of a single player thats got more than a fine, so I'm not sure why anyone expected a ban, particularly as it was a first offence.

It could be that the league decide that comments like this deserve a tougher punishment, but I dont think you can just introduce that out of the blue. Make the change pre-season, speak to clubs and players about and go from there.

An 80k fine is absolutely nothing to a Premier League footballer. In Rodri's case its not even a drop in the ocean.

Does absolutely nothing to deter the behaviour.

I reckon a manager would have a got a 4 week touchline ban for those comments. Or if Rodri had said it on the field he would have got a red card and a week off.

I'm not a fan of Arsenals brand of football, but throwing the words illegal and cheating around when talking about goals from corners is a bit much.

The grappling is against the laws of the game though, dunno how it's allowed.

Still reckon 0 attacking players in the 6 yard box before the corner kick is taken would limit holding in the box. Players would focus on running to get on the end of the cross more.

Could even go further and limit it to 4 each not including the keeper inside the 18 yard box but not in the 6 and then the rest start outside.

It's a good idea but IFAB doesn't seem interested in changing the law around corners.

Except it’s all teams that do this. Watch any set piece.

Wouldn't say all but yes it's definitely creeping in. It's not good.

It was always part of the game to a degree, I remember when VAR came in a few penalties were being given for it but it seems to turn a blind eye now + coaches have gotten better at gaming the system

I’ve always done this type of stuff playing myself. A little shirt tug here and there. People act like it’s never been around. I don’t think it’s any worse that before. Skrtel and co did this years ago.

It’s up to the referees to actually crack down on it. Players will find ways to skirt the line no matter where you draw the line.

Oh I have no issue with a bit of a tug on the shirt or a bit of grappling, I definitely do it myself when I play, I'm talking about the crowding of the box and the fouls left, right and centre. It's definitely a new thing this season.
