Review R1: The Good, the Bad and the Ugly vs. Collingwood

Laird is a solid player but the number of times he kills the momentum by going back over the mark or kicking an up and under...
Like C'mon man if you cant do it find a handball to someone who can.
Also 10+ years in an AFL system and you can't kick a low, fast pass...
This must be his last season, hes a decorated player, former all Australian. I think he'll go to the 2nds and play a farewell match like Smith this year

Watched most of this on my phone on delay hoping no messages popped up

I thought our defense was immense in the first half

Milera on fire - missed this

Everyone contributed

I wanted to see how the fresh faces did and its tempered by the fact we won but in horse racing terms they will be better for the gallop

I wanted to see a game plan and some concern in the first half because it looked chippy chippy - then the 3rd happened

Whats even more pleasing when Collingwood got within 12 points and the emotion and crowd were up we held our nerve. Thats a sign of maturity

Its an important game because while this gives us confidence we must acknowledge the Doggies won well. Instead of chasing a win we have one and it makes Friday night so much easier

Good to see

He's already signed for next year.

Honestly, a terrible decision. There's no reason to sign him early. It's just like ROB's re-signing.

Much more informed than me... dam thats not a positive, hes on his last legs this season unless something drastically changes which i dont think so...

Fantastic club debut for McAndrew, he was excellent. I remember declaring on here last year that he wasn't AFL standard... no wonder I usually sit on the fence

Loved the games from Milera, Neal-Bullen and Worrell. Consistently drove us forward even when the rest of the team was stagnant.

Quality games from Cumming, Dawson, Thilthorpe. I thought Berry was pretty good in the middle, won some great clearances. I see that plenty of people here were down on his game, but I thought he was pretty good.

Really liked Cook's game, especially as it went on. Getting him behind the ball is a winner, he is so composed with the ball in hand and knows when to go for an attacking disposal and when to play it safe.

I'm not sure I see the value of Toby Murray at this stage. I understand that we don't want Thilthorpe rucking, but geez. He doesn't offer all that much value, whether it be in the ruck or around the ground.
Good summary Stabby. I reckon with Turray though we need to hold judgement. The premise of his role is good, and tonight I don't think was a good representation of what he can do in it. Dude looked super nervous, and played like it.

Happy to be proven wrong. Beating Collingwood in Melbourne for the first time in over a decade is nothing to be sniffed at. Maybe it will be our year after all.

2009, was last time we beat them over there not quite a decade but **** me it's been slim pickings. Was walkers first game, that's how long it's been.

Thankfully, in the 2nd half, Butts didn't have to kick the ball much. Is it just me, or does he look shit scared every time he has to kick it?

He did what he usually does, which is look for a safe option to pass it to anyone else, and failing that, just bang it long.

He only had four kicks, so I guess it's mostly irrelevant anyway.

So Toby Murray was given 32% game time. The next lowest out of the other 45 players on the ground was Soligo with 60%. McStay with 62% was the lowest time on ground for Collingwood.

Can we really afford to have someone sitting on the pine for 2/3 of the match?

Don’t understand the berry criticism. 8 score involvements. Hard at it. Wasn’t perfect. But still very good
I thought he'd was bad... disposal atrocious... turnover galore ... need to work on that

Cook had a great game. If he can keep up the form, he'll be a star. His last game against the doggies where he got concussion i think was his best game but this comes close. He had all the attributes to be a star.

No different to last year and an added player is always going to be a diminishing returns kind of deal.

Mate.

Well apparently we can and still win against a top 4 team.

For someone coming into the game - yeah I think we can

Good

We won.

Cumming. ANB. Worrell. Thilthorphe. McAndrew in his first hit out.

Cook best game. Arguably Milera too.

Rachele? Though some shakiness by foot.

Meh

Berry is a scrapper. Not good enough to be a starting midfielder.

Soligo obviously laboured, but stuck it out.

Fog. Very quiet. Needs to do more. But nailed his chances.

Keays, again pretty quiet, but kicked a crucial goal and involved in some crucial passages.

Ah Chee didn't do too much in his first game.

Pedlar about par from what we'd expect from that last forward picked role. If he'd kicked 3 instead of 1.2 it would have been a good game.

Bad

Very conservative game plan in first half and dogshit footskills.

Bond very shaky.

Laird is Laird.

Tex showing his age.

Turray didn't really get near it - but how much production can one expect from a 2nd Ruck with 32% game time?
Did you watch the game?
Berry was great.
Tex relieved so much pressure by clunking marks out from defence

Not a fan of nicks over the time but got to give him credit for trying something different than Rob.
Would have been very easy to continue on as we have been, but that’s a tough decision they’ve stuck with so far.
Long may it continue

Walker seems to be moving around alright, seems lighter and more mobile.
A fresh Walker is good. Smarts, value for touches. Round 1 is him at his freshest. Hopefully we don't play him into the ground with a couple of token, too late rests.
