Titch, WHE, Cox, bobby, Mihochek and probably a couple more. They all played big roles in 23. Sidey and pendles are a couple of years older. Howe is a shadow of what he was. I think we're definitely down on talent compared to 23.
Yet even with those in, we were far from 'best list' - even last year when we were smacking the comp pillar to post.

We've NEVER had the best list in this window.

So the change of game to slow tempo isn't justified imo.

I just don't know. I still think opposition clubs don't allow us much space, especially through the middle, which is something we did a lot in 23.

I can understand tweaking of the game as the opposition evolves and we age.

But not to the point of doing a total 180 from last year where we'd close space, turnover and have outside runners on the ball win, that made our not the most talented forward line look like lead up master craftsmen.

It's not like all of sudden in one season we can't do what we did anymore, unless we really have become that slow and old with a similar list to last year.

We're two games into the season.
It's really too early to be forming any judgements.

The ball spends a lot of time on the ground in centre clearances. We need some quicker, agile players who are clean off the deck in there to win the ground ball.
Nick and Josh are two- who’s another? Beau?

I'd like to say that we're a chance this year but I just don't think we're good enough atm. It's a long season and I really hope we become good enough. I'm a glass half full person. I'm sure we'll change things up if we have to

Bobby Hill.... oh, wait

Fair enough, I'm just going by what I see and it aint what we saw last year.

IF that's by design (which we're not sure yet) then I don't agree it's the right path, even though we're blooding some younger players.

We shouldn't be totally reinventing the wheel just coz blooding some new players, IF that is by design.

In reality, as you've pointed out, the list has changed somewhat, so really it should be a player development year NOT a change game plan (or to this extent) year. IMO.

IF that is the intent from the coaching panel and FD.

You said we were the worst. I gave you three to show how silly that statement was.

Golf is not good for the mood. I was -7 yesterday and am still angrier at that than the Pies loss. Like me at times, I think the Judge was misunderstood.

I didn’t want to point out your silliness but I felt I owed it to you.
You scored -7 and were unhappy? So obviously not talking about shooting 7-under off the stick! A Par event?

Fear not - you’ll go better next Saturday, if for no other reason than the Pies having a bye and nobody to piss you off on BigFooty! Good luck!

(edit: just saw your earlier posts confirming Par comp.)

I just wanted to know his handicap. I've never met a golfer who doesn't like to brag about it. I played religiously for 8 years, 8 holes before work, countless hours at the driving range, countless hours practising chipping and putting, I let the whole world know everytime my handicap dropped by one.
What did you get it down to?

But why wouldn't clubs do the same thing to any opposition which runs the ball through the middle by hand as many do? Do they reserve a special desire to clog us up while not being bothered about letting a side like Melbourne kick 18 goals?

I don’t think our runners are up to it atm. Things can change though

let’s give it a few weeks before making judgements. We’ve played two games. It’s not a sample size to be making any judgement off.

It’s insane to me how much people over react to a loss.

We definitely went slower last year in comparison to 22, 23. I don't think most people are overreacting. It's just making observations about what we are seeing out on the ground and it looks and feels different to previous years. If we blitz GWS and kick 15 plus goals we can perhaps say the first two games may have been outliers. We will see.

Spot on!

Yes, it’s a small sample size but the average winning score across the first 14 matches of the season has been a whopping 113.7. That will surely start to come down a bit but we’ve only averaged 78.5 across our two games, in good conditions. We’ve actually done well to not be 0-2.

With GWS, Brisbane and Freo our next three opponents, hopefully Fly & Co can work some magic to find us another 4 goals per game. This is where the coaches really earn their money.

This will probably be unpopular because he has his fans but keeping Sullivan to be 28/29 year old depth midfielder over a mature KPD or Ruck makes absolutely no sense to me.
We’ve currently got Moore, Frampton, Howe, Reef, Cochran, smit on the list with Maynard’s ability to play somewhat tall. There’s only so many you can take up with list spots.

I wouldn’t have extended Smit if it was up to me. Just doesn’t have the footy skills to make it at AFL lvl.

I think an issue is that our ruck depth is currently made up of players who haven't debuted, and in Smit's case may well never debut.

Couldn’t ask for a better, though challenging, set of opponents to start the year. We’ll have learnt a fair bit after our first five matches and get to tweak things after some good tests.

N
Does Nick count?
No. He came in under Bucks and Nick is a freak who would have thrived under any system. In fact Fly is lucky he had Nick when he first started as Nick changed the whole dynamic of the team as soon as he started playing.
