Anyone talking this up as a certain star for us are kidding themselves. This is odds on a failed pick, I absolutely hope it isn't, just the reality. He can't kick a ball.
No matter what you need a lot of luck to win a GF. Top picks no guarantee- you need your Dusties and Cotchin leaders and culture and coaches and no injuries. Whether incompetence or not the injuries to some of our high end talent is not great. Hope our luck changes soon

If it was 1997 I would be worried, but it's not. People that have been told they will never walk again are walking.

The injury is from kicking the ball not from running. Pretty sure they don’t kick in the NBA.
In addition compare to other sports all you want but nothing stacks up to AFL from an all round athlete requirement particularly a mid. As you mentioned also he is big for a footy player and exceptionally big for a mid.

You are off your ****. You reckon AFL is more physically demanding than every other sport in the world?

You know what there is a lot of? Failed Basketballers who end up playing AFL. NBA players, earning $50,000,000 a season - playing up to 110 games in 230 days....... You reckon none of them could play in the AFL, huh?

Never heard of an AFL player going to play in the NBL or NBA tho. AFL has had, a lot, of blokes play the game. Rugby, Cricketers, Basketballers

So please, tell me again how Basketballers wouldn't be able to handle the workload of the AFL - is seems like its relatively easy to transition from 1 sport to the other. Smillie's growth spurt is NOT the leading cause of his injury. None of us know the leading cause of his injury, because the club has been shady as **** in reporting on it. I have heard of a few people i know directly who had a growth spurt of 1- 1.5"in their late teens - but no other example where it caused aserious quad issue, but only in one leg. :tearsofjoy:

Mate he isn't even that big. 6ft 4 Is a point guard in the NBA. They have blokes 6ft10 - 7ft4, younger, & playing against men like Jokic, running up and down courts 3-4 games a week. Smillie is tall for a footy player and his growth spurt can be an adjustment - but Giannis came into the NBA as a 6ft 8 18 year old & grew 3 inches in the first 18 months. He didn't miss games, he played 158/164 games as a teenager. Smillie couldn't play 1 and barely was able to train. The growth spurt is a factor, but certainly not the main reason he has missed games. That much is clear.
Let’s not compare basketball to AFL..

it will be interesting to see training reports over the next few weeks regarding josh. one good thing out of a lot of bad is the surgery should be fully healed, solving the problem from last year. I reckon supporters will have to be patient with josh's progress as well (as hard as that will be for some). so the new quad problem would probably be a 4 weeker but seeing josh's history they will and IMO they should be cautious. he'll be running in that timeframe but no maximum sprinting or full kicking. when in full training, he'll have 2-4 weeks training extra to get to some std of match fitness. so the track watchers will be able to give a good indication of how he is tracking. after watching Thursday night having lalor, hotton, gryl, cummings, smilie and another top4 pick from this year running around in the midfield will be exciting to watch

This kid is incredibly important to this clubs rebuild.
I just hope we haven’t turned him into a marshmallow by overnursing him with all these injuries. At some point this kids going to have to bite the bullet and just start playing footy.

The year is 2045. Carlton are about to unleash their newest recruit, Jagga Smith Jr. Meanwhile, Smillie is 4-6 weeks away from returning to full training.
I assume Carlton are still waiting to break the flag drought under Michael Voss Jnr?

How's he going to play footy, he can't even kick a ball without tearing something?

With the stand rule
He can mark and hand off to the running grill.
First player too win a Brownlow without a single kick too his name.

Not a great look to be avoiding any chat about his progress in the injury update.

Probably should mention this same thought in Sims and Clarke threads seen they avoided talking about them too
