Thunderbolts* (2025) Julia Louis-Dreyfus… the Rolls Royce Father Time can’t catch her and what a triumphant big screen return following such a open and brutal battle with stage 2 breast cancer she was easily BOG in my opinion and you could tell loved chewing the scenery and being such a hatable villain also Florence Pugh, Lewis Pullman and David Harbor’s Red Guardian as comic relief to the others was good and the core theme of mental health I thought was interesting for a Marvel film. i've got the 1962 cape fear and the 1932 scarface on my to-watch list.
Both well worth checking out

The original Cape Fear is superior to the early '90's remake, in my opinion. Robert Mitchum's performance of Max Cady is very understated compared to DeNiro's over the top performance, but is absolutely terrifying.

He's just as good (and possibly even creepier) in Night Of The Hunter.

1932 Scarface is legitimately awesome and I think the better of the two (with the disclaimer that I've never been as high on the 1983 one as most).
Me either.

Night of the hunter is so good! Took my dad to see it at the Classic cinema last year, seems so dark for a movie from the 50s.

Project Hail Mary. Gosling was great in this. The movie is very good and felt like a modern version of a Spielberg movie from the 80s. Try to avoid knowing as much as possible going in. 8/10.
Unfortunately watched the trailer and now I feel like I've seen the whole thing already.

Embrace of the Serpent 2015

A movie about a start of the corruption of Amazon Civilazation shot in black and white.
Outstanding.
Love this flick.

It’s one of my favourites of that era. I haven't watched it in years, that or the original Cape Fear.

(Project Hail Mary)

I've read the book and recommend avoiding the trailer like the plague; it's got massive spoilers in it. Imagine, say, seeing a trailer for Empire Strikes Back with the 'I am your father' line. That bad.

Am I the only one who thought the Project Hail Mary trailer looks terrible? It 100% put me off the movie
yeah same. I have a soft spot for space films but the trailer didn't interest me. The film seems to be getting a significant promotional push. I'll see it eventually in a year or so and hope to enjoy it but no rush here. Maybe the trailer gives too much away for those who haven't read it?

I recently read the Taylor Jenkins Reid book Atmosphere (fiction set during the 80s space shuttle program), and that distinctly felt to me like a pedestrian book that could potentially work much better as a film. If Project Hail Mary is a commercial success and allows an interesting director to do Atmosphere that would be a cool outcome.

I really enjoyed Atmosphere. One of TJR’s other books is being adapted as a movie so it could happen!

Book reader here also and absolutely agree.

When I saw the trailer I was shocked that they gave that much away. I remember in the book when I got to the part where
Rocky is introduced
I was surprised because I knew nothing about the story or where it was going - made it that much better. Trailer has ruined that experience for non-book readers.

I wanted to read the book bf hand. I’m too late.

Also waiting patiently for The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo. That was my fav read of 2025.

DP is Greg Fraiser. Who's one of the best in the business. But the 1st trailer I thought the same re: PHM.

The final trailer grabbed my interest

Lots of cool shots and more look into the space. Final trailer does give away too much though.

Actually doesn’t, if you read the book. It looks fantastic and can’t wait to see it tomorrow.

Chalamet's opinions on ballet and opera should have absolutely no bearing on whether he wins an Oscar.

I loved Sinners, Jordan seems like a great guy, I am very happy for him. I also think Chalamet had him beat, probably Leo as well. I do hate the idea that Chalamet's 'time will come' because a) that's not a guarantee, someone's best work might come and go, and never find the right material to replicate it, and b) it lends itself to 'make-up Oscars', which just rips someone else off down the line. Just vote for the best film, best performance, year on year.
Very Leonardo Di Caprio isn’t it? The his time will come.

MBJ was the better actor than Timothy. Thought Marty Supreme was akin to Bradley Cooper’s conductor. Just overly acted and pushed when all it is, is a story about table tennis fantasy.

I thought Jordan performed well but I don’t think it was the best of the candidates.

Read an article on NYT about actors playing twins and the two stand outs for me were Cage in Adaptation..brilliant! Although that was an extraordinary script

Also Jeremy Irons in Ringers.

Does anyone rate One Battle After Another?
Brilliant acting but horrendous storyline and just meh. Overrated
I rate it and I’m a big PTA fan but yeah I don’t love it as much as many others.

Swiped

It’s pretty hallmark cheesy in spots and doesn’t really deconstruct the broey vibes quite as brutally as I suspect it thinks but it’s a very interesting (based on) true story. Lily James is okay, she’s almost too capable an actress to be doing what is a midday movie vibe.

I enjoyed it and for people interested in the tinder/bumble/scandal/story it’s well worth a look.
