I'm led to believe the VAFA have been on the blower to all clubs seeking the immediate registration of players for the upcoming season.

Severe worries at HQ that total team numbers submitted by all clubs to the association may be in danger of not being filled and therefore making fixtures and scheduling redundant.

Has the VAFA been spooked by evidence in some leagues/clubs of dwindling play numbers? or merely future proofing themselves if clubs have possibly over estimated their numbers?

100%

Years of incompetency leading to the eventual downfall. D3 having 6 teams potentially 4 this year is crazy.

Must be why the player transfers haven't been updated for 5 weeks now! Light years behind other leagues.

The fact that you are concerned that F grade or Section 6 VAFA is struggling for teams means it’s a great competition.
When you look at how many they’ve lost across the last 7-8 years and if you still say it’s great. You are blind. D2 will be next on the hit list with cricket score results if they aren’t careful…

Clubs not teams.
The VAFA has more teams than its ever had. Still the biggest competition for participation by a long way.
Its not for everyone. But, largely most clubs have thrived.

I don’t think the fact that OX et al have 5 x 3rds teams is indicative of the VAFA being particularly healthy. We might have an expansive Thirds competition but the VAFA is leaking clubs with more and more finding it a struggle. Having said that it’s not confined to the VAFA and several metro and country comps are in worse shape. Just need to take the rose colored glasses off and acknowledge that for most times are tough and more clubs than ever before are folding or looking elsewhere to remain viable.

Does De La still have 3 x u/19s teams??
I would say every club is under pressure to remain competitive/viable in their own universe. Some are better equipped to handle it than others.
All comps are having issues at the bottom end. The difference is that there is an easy way out for the VAFA clubs - just pay players and move leagues. Other leagues don't seem have that luxury or that "easy" solution. Very few clubs just decide to stop paying players and move the other way.
The fact is - the VAFA turn out more players than any other comp each weekend by a long way. It's not perfect but other leagues would kill to have turn out we do.
I think we tend to view other competitions with rose coloured glasses.....

If VAFA allowed clubs to sell beers during games you would increase supporters overnight, increase clubs funding and maybe a player or two. For mine, it would be a quick way to improve fortunes of dwindling VAFA clubs.

While I agree 100% with you regarding the serving of alcohol, would more money in the bank help Eley Park, Chadstone, Masala, Swinburne, etc??
Would that be the panacea to turn around their fortunes??
Hawthorn supposedly have a hefty bank balance but they historically struggle to get out of Div 3.

One way to get around the ‘beer’ ban is to allow it within the clubrooms.
