I reckon any of Croft, Emmett and Will Darcy have a great physical make up, skillset and competitive attitude to make a great kpd. Just need a couple of preseasons.Dogs vision board was shown on Gettable. Suggest everyone has a watch
Our list in 2-3 years time looks in great shape. Only question mark is who will replace Lobb as KPD
Pretty much what I was saying the other day. The players association were always going to be a massive hurdle and although they have too much power I agree in this case.![]()
Expecting a free run at a top-10 pick for your club? Not so fast
A proposal to eliminate free agency compensation picks from the first 10 selections of the 2026 AFL national draft is in doubt.www.theage.com.au
"Proposed changes to free agency compensation could be delayed".
AFLPA making the argument that the changes to top-end free agency compensation is something that needs to be factored in the CBA (that is, the AFL needs to pay the players collectively more money if they want to introduce this rule).
Which is fair enough, because although only limited to the few players that would get a top-10 draft pick compensation, it is a significant restraint on their trade - Port (or in last year's case, West Coast) are far more likely to enforce their restricted free agency rights if they don't get a good compensation pick.
In theory, the fact that the AFL introduced the concept of a player being 'restricted' at all is something that the players gave up in (previous) negotiations and that the AFL player base is being paid more for it as a collective in their CBA. They're now arguing that such a rule change further strengthens the concept of being restricted, and there's really not much disagreement from me.
All of this is to say: Welcome Zak Butters, enjoy pick 2 Port!
Butts and Butters with no loss of draft capital whilst drafting El Souki, Marial, Cooney and West would be fantastic. I may have to tune into that particular korns meltdown.imagine if we got Butters and didn’t have to give up draft capital. Geeee. That would be huge.
Please bottom out Port. Going to death ride them so hard.

Yeh no.I remember murmurs about the dogs being into Bailey Fritsch last year?
I reckon he will have a huge year with the new Melbourne game plan. Our forward line is pretty good, but he could’ve added another dynamic.
I wouldn’t count our chickens with Butters. Too much water to go under the bridge before the trade period.
If we re-sign Sanders we’ll still be in good shape without Butters, as long as we recruit a good KPD with plenty of years left in the tank.
Isn't that going the early crow?I’d be counting the chickens and the eggs they lay
It's incredible how moving on Macrae and Daniel - as painful as that was - has opened up so much flexibility for the club.Butts and Butters with no loss of draft capital whilst drafting El Souki, Marial, Cooney and West would be fantastic. I may have to tune into that particular korns meltdown.
We didn’t go for Butts last year despite people saying we should. We did ask about Keane.Khamis has suddenly become an important signing. Surely his deal is upped to 3yrs.
Cal also said Butts will likely be an unrestricted free agent. We went for him last year so we’ll be a watch in this space
Kane Cornes is furious about the Butters to the Dogs talk. He says Port should fight back and offer Freijah $1.2m a year.
Obviously he failed to understand Freijah just signed a contract a month ago.Brilliant by Kane. If Western Bulldogs are targeting your uncontracted player, we will target your contracted player. Makes sense.
No thanks, game has gone past him a bit.Aliir Aliir just re-signed. So 1 kpd off the table.

A bit like how Geelong dirtied up when Jordan Clark and Tim Kelly wanted to leave. Acted like they were the worst people in the world while 50% of their team was from other clubs.I haven’t watched the video but Port have flogged so many players from other clubs over the years including JHF from the carcass of north, can’t have it both ways

Bevo was quite open in the part he played when the Dogs pursued Matt Rowell so I'm not surprised. I do think at a certain point he'll completely shut it down and just refuse to talk about it.Bevo breaking his own rules by admitting to the media he may (or may not) have been talking to Butters.
It's on like Donkey Kong
"everybody understands that those theatrics carry all of the weight of a night of community theatre."This underlines the hollowness of Kanes Schlick. It’s all theatre and a show of fake bravado. The reality as we well know is that once Butters decides to leave much of their leverage goes with him. Sure they can make as many grand statements as they like to appease their supporter base but at the end of the day everybody understands that those theatrics carry all of the weight of a night of community theatre.
The idea that they are going to get a high end contracted player in return because they offer a big contract is absurd. Once Butters decides to leave they’ll bottom out and be forced to rebuild through the draft. And with the Tasmanian boondoggle about to begin. I wish them luck.
But sure. Put on a good show for the supporters. When everyone else is playing a zero sum game at their expense.
As an aside why is it that we’re the only club that can’t manage a roster of high profile recruits? High profile clubs with the exception of Collingwoods recent ineptitude, have managed this without issue or having to jettison players for years.
And given clubs like ours have had a couple of years to prepare for the possibility of Butters leaving Port. They’ve had plenty of time to get their contract ducks in an orderly row.
tl;dr: Kanes cope is as hollow as the space between his ears.
