Looks like we're getting close to a peace deal between Russia/Ukraine, and thank goodness for that. On top of the Israel/Hamas ceasefire, if he manages to resolve two major conflicts in his first 6 months I daresay that even his most hardened detractors will be giving him props... positive days indeed.
Aaaaaand now?

Andrew Hastie - good read:

Nice to see him admitting the absolute truth. View attachment 2555412
Interesting that he is the only voice I've heard comment on the insult that Trump dished out to my country. How do you measure the assistance, support, and money Australia has given the US over decades, and this doesn't consider the Australian lives that have been lost during that time?
Not a word from Albanese, Wong nor Marles.
If the US has lost its moral compass, we are not too far behind.

This is good diplomacy.
Getting defensive or dignifying a churlish, immature comment with a response, is just inserting ourselves where we don't need to be. Stay clear of the maniac exhibiting full blown mania.

Basically hes adopting the sensible position of most western nation leaders in just treating the current admin as a temporary one
True, but i do think there is a breaking point where countries will start taking more serious actions as the USA appears to be run more like a mafia organisation ATM

it could be a viable exit strategy. Trump dies (peacefully) and successor denounces Trumps war as insane and can withdraw without loss of face
That's just wishful thinking on your part, Cranky.

Think for a second.
Can the PM publicly bag Trump like Hastie has?
Have any other leaders of US allies bagged Trump like Hastie has?

This president is a vengeful psycho.
What would Trump do if the PM said what Hastie said? Think how he reacted when countries knocked back his insane request to send ships to the strait, think how he has taken revenge against his opponents in the US.

So it is wise the PM hasn't made anything like Hastie comments and is for Australia's best interests. I'm sure they would love to, but it simply not going to help us.

I thought Hastie's comments were great. Loved hearing them, quite a contrast from the usual 'all the way with LBJ' stuff you get from the Libs.

While I agree the current mob need to make a stand

I cant help but ask Hastie in 12 months time when he is the Opposition Leader his thoughts

See Abbott’s comments for instance…

If they were to speak up, we’d immediately find ourselves under a 30% tariff or such likefor some spurious reason. They are the party in power.

Jesus Christ, I never expected him to speak with such clarity and genuine wisdom. No notes.

I think hes doing more than just treating Trump as temporary; he's outright saying the global rules based order is dead and Australia can't rely on anyone else for security.

Whilst no fan of Hastie, I know where he was coming from. He is ex-military and I'm sure he was standing up for ADF members who were lost in foreign wars.
Trump basically shat on them.
This comes on top of the desecration of our war graves by Israel in Gaza. Hastie also made strong comments about that, and rightfully so.

as an agnostic, i applaud leo.

"In a speech to broadcasters this week, Pope Leo XIV rebuked wartime propaganda, which seemed like a pretty clear reference to Donald Trump’s administration.

Specifically, the pope reportedly spoke about portraying war as though it’s a video game — just days after the White House spliced video game images into some of its Iran war propaganda"

perhaps , at least some, of the nuffies who were warned about this pernicious group but took no notice and voted for the orange fascist, might sit up and pay attention this time.

"The same movement that drafted a plan to remake and undo much of the federal government has unveiled a chilling new manifesto, one aimed at making it harder for women to work and live independently, and easier to push them back into financial dependence on husbands or fathers."
