Fair call! I'm not so worried about the bye as have 22 playing, it's best 18, and rookies are scoring far better this year (mature age picks, better roles etc).

I'd only be concerned if I had 19-20 on field.

We might find Ash scores 30-60 points more than other premiums over the next few weeks anyway, then you have him after his bye as well.

May backfire but we'll see!
I've done the same.
Gulden > Murdoch
Mckercher > Ash
Banking 650k
Targeting Myers next week.
I'm all in on Ash. I have 21 playing that round so having Ash out doesn't phase me.
And honestly has started the year well so think he's gonna be there all year.

If murdock out ill just trade in duursma instead

The consensus on BF is that Murdock plays and survives the cull but who knows. Harry Edwards and Liam Baker are both certainties as inclusions, and Tim Kelly is thereabouts, Tom Cole has already made way so the logic is that someone like Josh Lindsay and Bo Allan are on the cusp (RIP to those who have them in Fantasy) along with CDT (another RIP to a rookie).

M.Reid and Milera

Or

Cook and Caldwell

Leaning towards the double Cs

Yeah think I'll grab Caldwell and pick Ash up off his bye.

Decided on Gulden --> Ash (Rozee DPP)
Windsor --> Milera

Decided to fade Cook, already have Murdock and hoping T Marshall can bounce back. If Cook backs it up I'll consider but don't think he's a must have.

Have strong conviction on both Ash & Milera's role & draw. Trying to be aggressive and hoping to get a leg up on everyone else bringing in rookies.
How does your defence structure look? Will you have a rook on field still after best 22?

But the real test...is Ash VC?

Debating Gulden to Jackson with a bit of DPP and not getting Cook - would still leave me with 620k to work with next week... thoughts?
If I go the double downgrde and grab both Murdock and Cook, I go into next week with 1.2 million..
Cook is not a must have. He could be a decent cash cow and provides DPP flexibility, but Jackson probably solves a ruck problem, making them set and forget.

Yep. Now rocking Sinclair, Whitfield, Ash, Milera, Blakiston and Jacques. Swung Rozee to the midfield.

Haven’t pulled VC on Ash! I’m Rozee into Sheeze, but I don’t mind the Ash move…

the beauty of Milera, is if he doesn't do as well over the next 1-2 weeks, I can swing Rozee back to defence and target Dunkley/McCuggage/B Smith, or another fallen premo.

If he averages 90-95+ over the next few weeks he stays and I'll do a down/upgrade in the midfield instead.

Love the trades mate. Completely agree. Bye's not as big of a deal as everyone is making out.

We will get the benefit of Ash's scores this week anyway (assumes he goes well) as others are doing the downgrades, so it cancels each other out in my opinion anyway.

Mostly agree, but the bye is still a big deal because at best 18, the more you have playing the naturally far higher score you can get because for example if you have 22 playing and 4 are duds, it's a significant bump compared to 19 playing and 4 are duds (you have 18 good scores, vs 15 good scores and 3 of the best duds). If a super-premium that everyone has gets a disappointing score, you're laughing and coming out well ahead for the week.

I wouldn't ignore it completely, who knows what the injury gods may throw at us.

I think I've settled on Serong as my Gulden replacement.

If he does revert back to being the easily taggable, low 90s guy then its a relatively simple upgrade to someone decent after the early byes, potentially losing a week on trading to adjust.

But if, as I hope that tags are becoming less in vogue, and the change in the speed of the game rewards an athletic runner like Serong, then I think he can return to a 100-105 type average that he has been prior to last year, then I think he becomes a very good buy.

Zach Merrett has proven to score regardless of tag, and he's been doing it for years.

That's my rationale for him over Caleb Serong. I think the cash saved isn't worth it even if I also genuinely think Serong could become a 100 average player this year.

Oh yeh this is not to say I wont completely change my mind before Saturday.

Merret has his own question marks over his role in the team, particularly if he starts wanting out again.

I’m really warming to Milera as a pick
But been settled in Ash all week and not sure whether to just stick with Ash and wait a week on Milera and trade into Ash after his bye….
Ash’s run is way too good to ignore though

Maybe I’ll wait a week on Milera. Ffs haha

I almost wish I had Gulden or McKercher so I had some forced trades this week. Instead I am only missing Murdock & Cook rookie wise and I've got myself into a bit of a hole with Brayshaw, Clark and Archie Roberts.

Brayshaw seems a waste to switch out before the Melb & Richmond home games, especially with Youngy on the sidelines too. If the rumours of Archie Roberts being sick are true, then he has the role and the capability? And Jordan Clark...may just be a **** up on my part but would require bringing in a bye premo (most likely Ash or Sinclair)? But then it would probably be stupid of me to reach next weekend without having 1 of Ash or Sinclair already when I'll be aiming to bring in the Daicos bros or Houston?

I also went Worrell over Milera. I love Milera and his game but think Worrell has a higher ceiling at this stage of their careers.

I really Like the idea of Milera.
I just wanna see if it was a one time score or if there is more 90ish scores to come.
Thus i'm waiting + injury in the past has done him in so little hesitant.

This is my mindset too, taking that risk on. I'm more worried about Serong being tagged out and Freo seeming to be a bit more down on Fantasy scoring, also I already have two Freo players so it's semi-hedging my bets.

Yeh it is tough

For me its about Merrett + 350k or Serong + 450k

The latter makes it easier to target Blakkiston/Carroll to Houston next week.

I'll probably change my mind 10 different times before tomorrow, and then i'll probably panic and trade in Noah Anderson.

If it wasn't for the bye he'd be the easiest trade in, guy is a machine and there's news that Rowell may be out for longer than first thought (so should be more game time for Anderson).

We'll compare notes in a couple of weeks, I'll stick with Merrett for now.

My only Ash flag is the weather Sat afternoon in Sydney.

Trade out J Clark (who in hindsight was a starting pick without too much value or upside on their starting price quite possibly) or Blakiston who I think can possibly score ok against Sweet? Bank about 500K by trading out Clark over Blakiston.

After spending most of the week seemingly settled on

Gulden to Serong
Windsor to B.Cook
($450k into next week targeting a Blakiston/Carroll upgrade to Houston)

Am now starting to doubt this plan, particularly.
1. Serong vs Merrett
The one I really like is Anderson, but can't trade into that bye. Merrett seems safer but is $100k more, which may impact my planned moves next week. It comes down to determining whether Serong's dip last year was a trend or something he can recover from and return to the 105 average he normally is. Tags remain a concern.

2. Windsor out vs Blakiston out.
Part of me wonders if I am being too harsh on Windsor after one game. I have a little faith that Blakiston can pull in a decent score this week (between 60 and 70).
This is my conundrum too. I am tossing up whether to get rid of Windsor or Blakiston for M Reid. Seems a bit sidewasey to trade from Windsor to M Reid. It’s tough as they Blakiston and Windsor both have the role so I can see them both doing well. I just have no one else to trade.

I am tentatively locking in Blakiston out at this stage. But even next week there’s a fair chance I trade out Windsor to fund N Daicos so not 100% certain yet
