is anyone else having trouble with the afl site atm? all i can get up is the news photo and headline, the audio and visual box and the toyota and betfair ad. If its my computer can someone let me know wtf is going on? Other similar sites seem to be working fine.

Over a hundred pages of negative comments will hopefully encourage them to fix it next year. It has been disgraceful and to think the site used to be one of the top five by traffic in Australia.

It truly boggles the mind House of Love that such a large organisation can tolerate such poor quality. I think the AFL need some younger people on their board that can tell Andy D that the website isn't good enough... because he probably doesn't know any better.

if anyone at the AFL or bigpond still visits this thread, take a look at this pro-sport site.

www.nfl.com :thumbsu:

great vids, great articles, great gameday, great analysis, great organisation.....all ****ing great. i can click on everyday for updated info and vids......and i dont need to be a member of a certain isp!!

the AFL's site is a disgrace. i hardly ever head there anymore for any info.

considering the AFL administration pilfers all of its new concepts from this league, perhaps they should take a look at their website too and do it right.

The NFL site is actually very similar in design. However, it functions a helluva lot better and is a helluva lot more reliable. Also the fact that most Joes can access most the content is a plus.

The NFL site takes me 7-8 seconds to fully load with an Optus cable broadband connection.

The AFL site takes me 22-24 seconds to fully load with an Optus cable broadband connection.

The AFL site is one of the worst professional websites on the Internet.

It is an absolute disgrace, and the AFL and the people who design and manage the site should hang their heads in shame and embarrassment.

I reckon it's clearly Telstra's fault. The AFL must surely be aware that they've been delivered an inferior product but they are probably too scared to rock the boat seeing that Telstra are probably tipping a bit into the coffers.

Telstra are a joke and the AFL site proves it. Even their broadband deals are the worst going around but for some reason people still like to join up (despite being reamed every month) because the rabbits in China thing is funny (allegedly..). They get away with having crapola deals because people still buy them and they get away with providing crapola websites because organisations like the AFL don't tell them to improve them ("oh no! - lets not upset a sponsor now")..

One of the best features of the NFL site IMO is the Flash Highlights. Too many sites (AFL, NBA) are still using WMP/AVI videos. Flash videos load quickly and still have decent quality.

One of the things to think about for a new afl site

Re: BetaSite of AFL.com.au

Is this a joke?
An official of BigPond coming to BigFooty?
Sounds like a hoax.

EDIT: Maybe not - I'm just cynical and the whole thing looks suspicious - why should the AFL care what the fans have to say about anything but the draft?

Definately a joke .
No reference number .
No phone ,email address or street address .
AND Demetriou was not mentioned :D

Tonight is the first time I have gone to the afl website since mid way through the year. Good to see nothing has changed.

I accidently hit the afl.com link in my favourites and went there for the time it took to load the page and then I clicked the link I was actually trying to click.

It's the first time I've been on the site for months. Can't remember the last time I actually went there deliberately.

I don't - I reckon it the fault of the web design company that designed the site.

Buuut, the AFL sold the rights to Telstra and as such, sold any control they had over it.

Wow, this is a terribly uninformed rant

So you reckon Telstra have great broadband deals when compared with other providers do you? Or do you reckon the wall was built to keep the rabbits out? Which is it?
No of course their deals are not comparable to other ISP's but why are you pretending that they are on an equal footing? There is no way legally that Telstra would be allowed to even get close to competitive prices. That's hardly their fault...

Perhaps I should say that due to legal restrictions, it is essentially impossible for them to produce competitive prices

What legal restrictions are you referring to? Why, for example, do they have a download limit of 400mb before charging more for their standard 39.95 per month ADSL2 deal? You can get anywhere between 2 and 10 gig from other providers for the same price or cheaper.

Do you have anything to declare here (i.e. are you employed by Telstra)?

No, I have no Telstra deals and am not employed by them. I'm actually employed by a rival network company

I just reckon you comparing deals by a reseller to a network provider is rather ridiculous. Particularly when ports are provided to resellers for little, if any profit. Then I could get into the issues of network responsibilities, of which resellers have none whilst a network provider needs to subsidise these extra costs...really the differences are endless.

Restrictions are placed upon Telstra by the ACCC to create healthy competition. Currently the restrictions are working as Telstra have a nice share of the market whilst competitors are also doing well. As such these restrictions are staying as they are.

However, thinking that they are all on a level playing field in this industry is just silly

Whats ridiculous about saying that Dodo or Optus or a plethora of other providers all have much better deals than Telstra? I'm not complaining about that because I too are with another provider and really like the deal I've got.

What specific restrictions have the ACCC placed upon Telstra's own plans which inhibit them having for example more bandwidth before they start charging you per mb?

Their economies of scale alone dwarf any of their rivals yet they offer deals which see you paying through the nose as soon as you get over 400mb in a month (which would be achieved through passive, ocassional web surfing alone).

That is a load of crap, you do realise that most countries around the world do NOT enforce download caps anymore.... Telstra is ripping people off with their internet deals.

The reason they get away with it is because 95% of the population know stuff all about the internet or don't care.

Well you had a fairly abusive attack on Telstra regarding their deals and that suggests you feel they are unjustified.

In regards to all the facts and figures, I don't know them off the top of my head and it'd take a fair effort to find them

I'd rather just drop the issue as I don't have time nor desire to get into the nitty gritty

So you want to flog an already struggling network by abolishing caps? So where will the money come from to upgrade and maintain networks for this to become a reality?

I'm not sure of all the countries but in the US you have multiple network providers, a huge population and less remote sites. They have a much more competitive market

Whilst Australia is involved with a monopoly, it will always struggle. The sell off really was handled terribly.
