Depressing but true

Who actually ever said this?

“There’s a misconception about what the public says about this young, vibrant team that really attacks”

We are bat shit boring and way over coached.

Schofield's role might be the most important at the club in 2019. We just need significant change in our midfield and consistency. I'll give Rocky another year to prove his value. But Boak and Ebert should only play part time roles and used to help improve our forward line. Robbie to be injected at critical times. But really need to get the absolute best out of young talent...which is really under his watch. Fingers crossed he surprises

Yep, really need to tweak things and inject pace into our side and run back into game plan. People kept saying we were the number 1 clearance side last year, that was misleading. It was because we forced so many stoppages not because we won so many.

Need Wines to tidy up his kicking and take himself into the "above average category"
SPP to have a break out year, he is one with his kicking power and explosiveness could certainly take himself into the "elite category"
Bonner is another, a bit of pressure on him to fill Polecs shoes and move up on to a wing.

Absolutely on Gray, with the new 6-6-6 winning centre clearances are more important. Ryder and Gray combo in the center square will be crucial. If we win the centre clearances and get the ball I50 quickly we've got a good combination of big marking targets Dixon, Marshall and Lycett (who then pushes up the ground and rucks around the ground and Ryder pushes forward)

I don't think Boak and Ebo make out forward line better, probably the opposite. Id be really looking at some of our young guys Farrel and Rozee, both elite by foot, fast and agile. They can be dangerous crumbing to the big guys after winning a centre clearance can provide great pressure and with their pace can lead up the ground and push back forward and be hard to match up.

I'm surprised it has taken this long for pundits to realise we play a soul destroying, overly defensive, batshit boring brand of football.

Young? Vibrant? Is that from 2013?

The media don't care about us and the vast majority of pundits don't watch us.

The reality is that the casual football observer has no idea about the way we play because we don't get the exposure. If the FTA deal was fair, people would have cottoned on to us a long time ago.

Our list was young and vibrant, then as 4-5 years went by and we became old and slow and now our list is one of the youngest again, but for some reason half our best 22 is still old.

When a team lets us do our own thing you get football like the first quarter against West Coast or Hawthorn. The vibrancy is still there.

That’s why it’s always a defensive, stoppage based slopfest at our games - because the last thing teams want to do is get in a shootout with us, because that would bring the crowd into it. The MO to beating Port has always been to try and beat us up and get in our face. So for the last few years the emphasis has been on gaining weight to be able to cope with the beating.

Against a side like Sydney, it worked because that’s all they have. But against everyone else, all it did was make it impossible for us to play consistently in the back half of the year. Everyone was carrying too much weight and so fatigued more easily when the slog months came. When a guy like Wines is listed as only being average - that is why.

We needed to shred the weight if we wanted to get the run back. I say shred and not shed because hopefully the players have been able to convert that weight into functional muscle mass and therefore only lose a kilo or so of weight.

Get the run back, and you get open, uncontested possessions on a consistent basis. You open things up all around the ground and force the opposition to cover more than just a postage stamp and keep their defenders back.

For me, it all depends on what I see at the Members Convention. I don’t give a **** about retaining possession in defence or taking it through the corridor. I care about seeing players move the ball quickly and running.

We should tweak our game plan so it recognises the concept of an opposition.

It does, it’s just that it’s a bore fest.

That’s why I kept saying the ball has to be moved faster, even when we were winning games - you get into the habit of thinking you’ve got all the time in the world to make a decision and when you don’t have that time you’re going to freeze.

New year, new hope, and I'm going to do it without the continuous whitewash of negativity that I get from here.

For the same reasons I don't watch commercial news anymore, I've got to get out of this place and mindfully just enjoy one game at a time.
I'm not questioning your rights to be negative, go ahead, venting is healthy for the venter, not so much for them reading it.

I'll be at every game and cheering us on with hope and confidence (and possibly ignorance).

Cya.

Nice and good on you. I also will be at the games, living in hope, yet again. This is a depressing place for sure.

With Hartlett back, Burton in and Houston across half back we have a really elite kicking half back line, both in terms of hitting targets and penetration and distance.

Mids and half forwards need to do the hard work to get up the ground and into space. Need to see genuine pace in these positions.

I’m keen to see (have hope for) Bonner and Watts on the wings both have pace, elite ball use to then deliver to the half/deep forwards. Both good height which with their pace makes them more dangerous defensively and improves their intercepting ability.

Getting their kicks: Your club's top kick-in experts

2018 LEADERS: Dan Houston (77 kick-ins - 37.4% of team), Riley Bonner (66 kick-ins - 32% of team)
The Power didn't have a designated player for their kick-ins. Defenders Dan Houston (77 in 22 games, 3.5 per game) and Riley Bonner (66 in 19 games, 3.47 per game) shared the duties. Houston ranked 16th overall while Bonner was 22nd. The Power were a middle of the road team when it came to playing-on from kick-ins, taking that option 25.4 per cent of the time. Houston did that more than most of his teammates, playing on with 32 per cent of his kick-ins.

WILL IT BE THE SAME IN 2019?
This could change substantially this season due to two factors – the return of Hamish Hartlett from a knee injury and the arrival of former Hawthorn defender Ryan Burton. Hartlett is one of the best ball users at the Power and has a booming kick. Burton took the most kick-ins at the Hawks last year – with 67 in 21 games – but only played on to himself 4 per cent of the time. Bonner might take fewer kick-ins if he moves to a wing to accommodate Burton and Hartlett. - Lee Gaskin

Will be an interesting backline this year .. With the new kick in rule this year Hamish & Dan could set us up well from their kick ins..
