The more i think about this the more im convinced that we must get either Balta or Coleman jones fast tracked into the team

2 things that makes me think this is

1. We desperately need a 2nd Rukman with the new rules where a player like Grigg can no longer participate in the ruck without us giving up a huge advantage
2. The new kickout rule is going to have the ball virtually in the center of the ground with every exit and we must have a marking option in the middle,Nank can not be expected to be everywhere and apart from Lynch & Riewoldt we really dont have any other players that can work upto the middle to take that contested mark to pump the ball foward.

Soldo is just not mobile enough to be that player so it must be between CCJ / Balta / Chol with Chol being the least likely due to his ability to read the play

I actually think Chol could suprise a few this season. He looked good
On the GC one out against rance and is perfect for a second ruck role

So is 7,6,5 , 7 down back , 6 middle , 5 forward ?
Yes. A set up all teams do when playing the LMID.

Exactly where the two off the back of the square come into it, just the exact same thing the opposition are doing down the other end of the ground but you wont ever hear CD admit this when the agenda was ' bring tigers back to the pack '

As Jack said on Good for Footy with Lynch when asked about 6-6-6, he said it wont worry us as we set up almost this way anyway.

6 Weeks and 5 days till Round 1, no need to do twists and turns at this stage, that can come in about 3 weeks IMO, maybe a half in the final JLT if everything is going well otherwise just roll up to Round 1 and kick 12 on the greatest backman of all time Liam Jones.

Nah thats Weitering, best since SOS

Won’t be Balta. Will be either CCJ or Soldo. Balta hasn’t been involved in any ruck work exercises this pre-season.
Should not be Soldo. Not a great mark and not great around the ground generally.

Hope he does come on but im thinking he still has a fair bit to learn about the nuances of the game and reading of the play, Athletically he is amazing but his tank has always been an issue.

Not sure how much that has improved but hope they have made him atleast drop 1 of his phones

Premature return causing injury would require a year out at least for TL.
He does look amazing, I had not seen him closely yet.
We don't want a SOS-Docherty type catastrophe.
Lynch is a seven-year player, and if he requires time, no need to rush.

Ruckmen are important of course but not necessarily match-winners.
Bulldogs won the 2016 GF with fewer hit-outs, they won the low-scoring match decisively.
The new rules allow the ruckman to take the ball, just apply tackling, ground level is what counts.

7 weeks to go and Lynch is doing basic track work. They will up it gradually over the next 3 weeks and given he has done a lot of straight-line running already, so aerobically he will be fine, he is well on track. A four week training block with a JLT game, looks on track to play round one for sure.

So just on this 6-6-6 garbage, according to champion data we set up 6-6-6 only 3% of the time, we set up 8-6-4 11% of the time..........

Hmmmm what happened to the other 86% of the time

46% of the time we were defending a free kick against, and the other 40% was a 50 meter penalty most likely! :drunk:

Watched a bit of the AFLW last night and the biggest impact by a rule change by far is the kick-in rules. The girls were clearing 60-65 metres (last year it was more like 40) on every kick out because the defender was further off the square and the kicker could play on without kicking to themselves. I reckon in the men's we'll start seeing 85 metres clearances easy. Could mean our repeat entries strategy is dead. This is the biggest way the rules are going to affect us by far.

That's what I've been saying, whereas some are saying it's only going to get another 10m and still be in the defence. I think as you say good kickers will be hitting the wings. The other comment some are making is not many will want ti risk the turnover so will continue to play it safe and chip for possession. This may be true. Teams like the Dawks with their possession game. But our get it forward at all costs plan was being copied by other teams and could be the way to go. Teams will go wide and long with it. At the SCG, the ball will br landing in the centre though.

They were barely getting outside 50 and then it was to a wall of players, out the back goals and coast to coast is dead not repeat entries.

And as soon as they played on from the square they got closed down and then it's a rushed kick to a pack.

I think there is a bit too much thought going into a round 1 start for Tom Lynch. I would like him to be as close to 100 percent as possible before playing. If that's round 5 so be it....

I also wonder if JR could go to center for opposition kick ins (if he's at CHF) then we use our leg speed & hustle to bring the ball back into attack? Our game plan allows for this & I think we were already playing in a similar way already?....
