The argument is simple. Align your interests in any relationship under any conditions and you will find you will generate better outcomes. Be it a husband/ wife, employee/ employer, a sporting team etc. Good managers, good employees, good partners, good sportsman do this very well and it starts with communication.

You concede not aligning interests is lunacy. So you have no choice but to accept aligning interests is the pathway. We can debate all day on how it is best achieved and in reality, every individual is different, so to organisations, goals, strategies etc. So every alignment strategy needs to be different, evolve over time and take learnings from the past and others.

Alternatively you can just give up and take the peasant attitude that it's not fair.

Why would a business align their interests with something external to the business?
If, and only if, there is something in it for the business.
Otherwise it makes no sense, at all. In fact, it could be construed as poor management.

Why would an employee align their interests with the interests of a business?
They could achieve that by purchasing shares in that business, could they not?

A farmer might need access to water, a mining company may need access to land, a local community may need jobs, a king may need subjects......there are lots of reasons why you engage and align interests with external parties, so why are you surprised organisations do?

Yes an employee could buy shares, just as they could quit and earn money elsewhere. However some employees might actually enjoy their job, communicate what they would like to do at their place of employment and be rewarded above their pay for their efforts. Others though just like trading time for money and bitch about their job and their lives.

Have we found out yet why a picture of the accommodation on HMAS Sydney (Vung Tau Ferry) for troops returning from Vietnam almost 50-years ago is relevant to the accommodation currently being provided to refugees?

An employee can enjoy the F out of their job, it doesn't mean they're going to get paid more.
That is what this discussion is supposed to be about, isn't it?

We have found out that it is a ridiculous comparison.

De Garis replied: “I respectfully decline to answer that question on the grounds it may incriminate me.”

He has already incriminated himself, admitting he leaked it.....
