Still time for the obligatory "tightening", but the dog whistle summer period is coming to an end after the usual Australia day giveaway and it also doesn't help that Morrison and the LNP are actually back in the news.

The water scandal, leading into the heatwave, leading into the Wilson scandal is vintage Abbott/Turnbull/Morrison era stuff, reminding everyone how big of a bunch of dickheads we have leading the country.

Also, Shorten doesn't have the guts to duke it out on the medical bill, but the fight to extend parliamentary sitting days to start digging in over the Royal Commission recommendations represents nearly as big of a threat to destroying the LNP's authority, as a loss on the medical transfer bill. I'm sure Morrison thought he'd set up a slam dunk when he vapidly alluded to accepting and moving forward with all of the recommendations, only to backpedal. Refusing to ok extra sitting days to deal with the RC after puling a fast one when preparing 2019's (pre-election) parliamentary calendar, using the "we won't rush it" excuse after just rushing through the anti-encryption laws, gaslighting the public over their failure to deliver the tax avoidance register, taking credit for the RC despite vigorously opposing it, then having to deal with a leaked letter showing they basically took orders from the banks on how it should be set up and finally the whole Wilson scandal is making them look like absolute crooks when it comes to tax policy, banking and finance. Hard to run a Labor/economy scare campaign, when you act like toadies for a small group of robber barons.

However, nothing I've seen from Morrison suggests that he has the political acumen to take advantage of such an incident the way that Howard did.
