How about CFC concentrate on making the transitions and not worry about Preston as we know how good we are making transitions....
Sue me, I'd like us to help out Preston after we've been building our club back up again using the Bullants as our reserves and a development platform.

Planning for a new comp, helping with identifying players, generating links with Carlton College so they can access graduates, supporting links to sponsors... who the **** knows what is needed but I'd rather we weren't like the AFL, just shitting on clubs that have been integral custodians of the game.

If we are tapping into the population growth in the northern suburbs, I'd like us to building up other clubs in the region. It will help us in the long term. IMO

I would assume all of that would be in the considerations. But the old VFA is a very resilient thing and has survived all kinds of changes over time. I think they would adapt and re-metamorphose. One thing for certain though ..right now clubs like those have no identity at all. They are hybrid experiments and its a failure.
I would be concerned about where revenue would come from for some of the clubs.

Coburg are apparently on a push at the moment to try & achieve 1000 members for this season, which would be a great effort by their recent standards, but assuming broadcasters would be more inclined to provide coverage of the AFL reserves competition than a reinvented VFA competition, there is not going to be a large enough revenue pool to sustain the clubs with minimal memberships/supporters, particularly when they are competing against local comps who have been able to build revenue bases without directly competing with VFL/VFA clubs.

I would love nothing more than to see a return to the VFA comp as I knew it through the '70s &'80s, but much like AFL games being played at the old suburban VFL grounds, I just can't see it happening. Those days are gone. The football landscape has changed too much over the last 20 years.

I have always found it hard to get into the Preston thing. Coburg should have been ours. Most of my supporter mates back in the day followed Coburg.

FWIW - heard from a players girlfriend that, indeed, Tom Bugg was not well liked. A lot of the players are country kids and he was a bit 'too city' for them.
I was told by a player he told the club he needed time off for a family issue then was laughing (probably out of awkwardness, but still) when telling the playing group he was retiring. He can gagf

Nothing like Forum Football

Can someone post up the rules...............
clique, be negative, click again..............rinse & repeat...........

If you're going with the reserves comp, 7 will dump what is left of the VFL in a heartbeat.

Give it back to the ABC then I do have fond memories of that being a thing, and can hopefully with the right promotions give a proper boost to the remaining stand alone teams
