How did Scrimshaw, Worpel, Moore and Lewis go tonight?

Scrimshaw looked elite in the first quarter (body on line, marking, great kicking). Think he was given slightly more midfield time in the first, or high halfback. Was quiet after that (moved to deep halfback) and I think he ran out of gas from the third onwards.

Lewis was great structurally. Took 4 marks early and gave Roughead a lot of freedom. Got his hands to a lot of contests and I felt as though our structures suffered when he went off. Didn't kick any goals though which he needs to work on. Plays like Shoey.

Moore quiet. Struggled to get into the game, and didn't do much apart from one good mark. Hanrahan more impressive.

Worpel was immense in the first two quarters, providing great support to Jags/Cuz/Sheils. Had something like 17 disposals (13 contested) to halftime with a handful of tackles. Did tend to hack it forward though. Moved forward in the third (where the ball rarely was) and did take a great 1 on 1 mark and kick a goal, but otherwise quiet. Put on ice during the fourth.

Scrimshaw - excellent early, encouraging otherwise
Wordplay - great
Moore - imho, just ok.
Lewis - great early, but out of his depth later. Looks good long term.

Both backups for sure. Hopefully birch back soon and early signs from scrimshaw look good

That wouldn't surprise me, I've witnessed them first hand throw objects at and spit on their own players leaving the field after a loss.

Even worse than Collingwood supporters they are.

Yeah, great first half. Hawks played best team and killed it.

Second half the Hawks put in the seconds and changed up positions. Richmond kept the big guns going. The third was disappointing but I'm not unhappy. A great indication of what the Hawks can do. Strong, structured defense and fluid offense. A midfield that will season and improve. We've got a chance to turn this season into a good year.

Omeara was certainly off the whole of the 3rd.

??? Brand replaced by O'Brien, Sicily by Mirra. We moved Worps forward and took O'Meara off after like 3 minutes of play. Our centre square that got schooled was Sheils/Cousins/a forward rotation. We also changed our wingman and our starting positions. There were plenty of changes in the third quarter to both our structures and gameplan, that along with a Richmond lift meant we got our asses handed to us.

So you don't even understand why your comments were sexist? If that was a male umpire, I have no doubt you would have said something along the lines of being demoted to the VFL, but because it was a female, the first card you use is the AFLW.

Thanks mate, so if it came down to either of Scrimshaw or Moore for a spot in the Round 1 side, it would be Scrimshaw getting the opportunity by the sound of things.

I noticed that Roughie kicked a bag, which would partly be due to Lewis freeing him up, however if he's looking lost perhaps it may be counter productive.

I'm hoping the kid makes it, but doesn't quite sound ready yet.

Great news on Worpel, let's hope that he has a massive season.

Today a backline in the second half that had Mirra, O'Brien. Frawley and Stratton probably add in Hardwick was a horror show... the one that had Brand in the first half was not a horror show... even though some of those above were in the first half.

In fact it's arguable Brand's generally resting in the second half made the others look worse in the second half because he couldn't cover their half assed in both halves non efforts of helping their teammates.

Third man in tonight we were not good at all, possibly appalling if you take out Sicily.

So it was more a case of us tinkering around and experimenting, than being outmatched or outplayed.

Sadly, no.
In the second half Richmond got serious, put on the pressure and we just went to water. Couldn’t cope.

Admittedly we shuffled the magnets around a bit at half time but that’s no excuse for the poor defence and hopeless movement into the forward line and getting monstered in the midfield. Smith marking in the goal square and playing on for a point was a lowlight amongst many. Stratton was totally ineffectual. And our kicking skills under pressure were hopeless.

But it was only a preseason run in the park and not a game we can take too seriously despite the easy 8 goal turnaround. What annoys me was that the half time comments from the Richmond rooms indicated they thought they’d win the game after they made a few adjustments to their game plan.

Tigers out lasting us has been the go for a few years now. We had great skills first half but we need a way to manufacture an even fitness with older and younger players combining

Surely not having Sicily intercepting for most of the second half deserves a mention too. Not convinced O'Meara wasn't rested for a fair bit of the third either.
