Richmond breathing fire....I laughed....a soft lot they are.
Puff the magic dragon type smoke is about all they willl manage.
You don’t win a premiership by 10 goals (average finals win of 7 goals) and go through a season 2 games clear on top with 4 out of 22 losses by being a ‘soft lot’.

Have a bit of respect for the opposition hey.

Kennedy is a worry with his shoulders apparently got a hit to it a couple of weeks ago at training and then another in the VFL game he played, after already having them reconstructed to be having a problem after a couple of knocks playing low tempo footy doesn’t bode well for his future as far as his shoulders go.

He’s fine. Blown way out of proportion

Going to be interesting to see the effect of the new rules on different sides based on their recent campaigns.

Often in Formula 1 you get a lag effect between teams when a drastic rule change is introduced. The teams that were vying for the title in the previous season seem to lag in the early part of the following season, as they didn't spend as much time focussing on the next year's rules, as their competitors did. The time they spent focussing on winning the championship the other teams were already testing different aero setups, and doing R&D on new engines, rather than putting the time and money into their current one's.

In the AFL setting, the team that has been focussed on winning premierships in the previous season is Richmond, and the team that has been focussed on the Advent of the new rules, is Carlton.

We have created a team centred around big bodies and key position stocks to win more contested ball and adapt to the 6-6-6 rules. We have three recognised ruckmen, and consistently play with a secondary ruck/forward in excess of 200cm tall and capable of holding his own.

Richmond have a game plan and team that was certainly capable of winning premierships in the last two years, but how is it going to hold up now? This will be the most intriguing part of the first 6 weeks of the season for me, across the competition.

We are definitely capable of coming away with 4 points. We beat one of the best clearance teams in the league, in clearances on Monday, and even had more I50s. The signs are there pointing towards the fact that we will relish this rule change. I just hope we can follow through in the season proper this time

We aren't the same team as last year's wooden spooners. Just as, in 2017, they weren't the same team that finished 13th in 2016. I expect us to knock them over.

don't forget that Number 666,
The number of the {blue} Beast!!!!!

There's a lot of confidence in here, I'm certainly tipping Carlton improvement this season, but I'm not sure there has been enough to close a gap between a team that went 19-5 last year and one that went 2-20 with a percentage of 59.3

That's not disrespectful but I just think realistically it's very hard to justify a tip for Carlton.

I get in a two team game that a team always has a puncher's chance, but I think promoting all the reasons Carlton could win and ignoring all the reasons Richmond should win is a little bit unrealistic. It surely, surely is not based on preseason form?

Is there genuine belief here or just blind hope for a big upset?

Yes the first part is true but I cant see how SOS knew in advance what rules would be in place. I see it that hes done that because its how a team achieves sustained success in any era.

Starting positions and caps on interchange caps have been discussed for many years now

Don't think there are too many who genuinely believe we will win, but many are confident we can put in a good performance, and rightly so.

I think people should do better than simply point to the win/loss record of last year - which only tells a small part of the story. Richmond are strong of course, but we are not as bad as what we showed last year. I expect a year more closely aligned with what we produced in 2017 rather than last year, for various reasons.

With the competition being as even as it has shown itself to be over the past few years, and with new rules a genuine chance to influence games particularly early in the season, you'd be silly to completely write off a side, when all it takes is a small drop off from the favorite, to give the underdog a chance.

I will be tipping Richmond, but a Carlton win is not completely out of the question. Stranger things have happened.

I think you’ll win easy fwiw.
You guys ****ed up your finals should have at least made the GF.

There’s no way we’ll jump u like round 1 last year.

I don’t expect us to be much chop for at least a couple of rounds. Probably have our first win after Kane Cornes says Bolton must be sacked .

Bit of both!

You come here and throw some respectful banter..I like it. How about because you are that much better you give me a head start of.... 6 goals and we can have a hundred on it! Please advise so I can start saving

I would definitely take Carlton at the + line, especially if it's 36 or more. That's a huge line for this round 1 game.

With Respect Juss, the new rule changes certainly levels out the playing field from past seasons.
Im not sure your back line will hold up against our 3 talls,
Granted we both have good midfields, and playing Grigg as your back up ruck men won't cut the mustard anymore!!!!
Your run n gun tactics from defence won't stand up this year..

The only Yellow n Black machine I'm rooting for this year is Daneil Avvacardoo.
