I just can't wait to wait to see Charlie Cameron play at the Gabba again. Worth the price of admission whatever happens. I'm sure we'll put on a really strong competitive effort that will set up a positive first few weeks of the season. I'm also hoping we can crack 20k attendance, the PA is at reasonable levels, Neds is not too prominent and Michael O'Brien catering has undergone a full overhaul of the menu to include a range of modern, healthy and international cuisine choices at a reasonable prices.

Fabulous if he gets up. I'm old school though and don't trust miraculous recoveries. Reminds me of when they did acls by the lars technique, all that did was double the time away.
I don't know that there is anything miraculous about the recovery. The club said initially it was a 6-8 week injury. Saturday will be a day short of 9 weeks since his injury occurred. The club said all along it was hopeful he'd be ready by round 1.

Talking to one of the central umpires today and he was predicting a red hot game, with both teams hard at it.

At home, I’m predicting Lions by 38 points in a boil over.

Sorry to intrude , but just wanted to say - bring it on Nunez , 3KZ is Football and Sausages :)
I was actually hoping to make the trip over as I haven’t been to Brisbane in years but couldn’t get the leave
Next year hopefully!
I think this is a danger game for us off a shortened preseason and that the Lions have every chance.

Hey MWPP, you are always welcome.

In the mix: Which new faces could debut for your club?
Brisbane - There's a lot of continuity with the Lions from 2018 but there'll be three new faces running out against West Coast on Saturday night. Lachie Neale (Fremantle), Jarryd Lyons (Gold Coast) and Lincoln McCarthy (Geelong) all came during the off-season and have fitted seamlessly into the best 22. The biggest question mark remains over reliable defender Darcy Gardiner, who did not play during the JLT Series. Gardiner hurt his PCL in January but has recovered well and is a strong chance to play.

West Coast - The Eagles rolled with their preferred two-ruckman line-up during the JLT Community Series and it's almost certain that former Gold Coast and St Kilda big man Tom Hickey will be in the side to take on Brisbane at the Gabba to replace Scott Lycett (Port Adelaide). How coach Adam Simpson juggles Hickey and Nathan Vardy, who is the more accomplished forward, will be intriguing, especially if star spearhead Josh Kennedy isn't available after foot problems. The only Eagles draftee to feature during pre-season was small forward Jarrod Cameron, who is down the pecking order, while ex-Collingwood utility Josh Smith is in the wings if injuries strike through midfield as the campaign progresses.

Healthy list heading into Round 1:thumbsu: Seems like Gardiner will play.

Expecting a 3-4 goal loss. Will keep up with them for most of the match but they’ll be able to lift to another level if our intensity drops off for a moment

I have to agree. I think that the eagles are a class above. We are just not there yet. We will definitely challenge them but I think we will run out of steam and just get a bit sloppy at the end allowing them to pull away a bit. I will be disappointed if we get smashed, but we have started slow most seasons. So I won’t chuck the whole season if we do faulter against the eagles.

I think once Charlie, hippy and McStay start clicking we will be hard to stop!

I know it's only round one but I think this game will be a real barometer for us for the season. Crucial we are competitive at least.

Most important aspect is how we play. If we play well and there are good signs, further improvement with the younger players,Hippy and McStay converting well etc then I'd be okay with a loss.

Hey guys, what are the chances of Tom cutler getting a game this week?
Thought he was pretty good last year and picked him up in a draft fantasy league so hoping he plays
Won't play this week. Seems to be out of favour at this stage. No doubt things to work on.

So is Robertson out of our best 22 now?

Hey MWPP, sorry for the late response, was busy with my rocket science.

Thanks for the tag!

...
The additions of Lyon, Neale and McCarthy seem....

The mob down the road in Perth have been trying this for a couple of years now...

Seriously though it should be a good match. I was just saying the other day how good it is that things look to be on the up for the Lions.

I'd like to think West Coast will be able to control the footy and thereby the game but I reckon you guys won't leave anything on the field and who knows? Premiership hangovers can be a thing so why not have a crack.

Stoked the footy is back!

Selection for this game will be really interesting particularly for some of those guys that played well in both JLT games. I'm thinking of guys such as Archie Smith, Ryan Lester, Lewis Taylor, Ryan Bastinac and the fitness of Darcy Gardiner.

Fages mentioned in his presser that match committee was today and I dare say that there are probably 20 players that are locks, with about five players vying for the last two spots.

And he said Archie and Stef are vying for one spot whereas the Big O is seen as forward who can relieve in the ruck. So lock the Big O in. And I don't see Archie keeping Stef out, despite his strong JLT form.
