Bit concerned about the number that may have fitness base issues but a good side in terms of potential.

I’ve been out of the loop for a couple of weeks did many have Setterfield as a realistic chance given his fitness?

Some crunched the numbers in his favour before Christmas.
Others were more conservative ...

Preferred line-up this week;

Simpson Jones Plowman
Newman Weitering Garlett............Not going to be easy countering their smalls. Should we go smaller if Lynch doesn't play, as there's no Caddy either?

Phillips Cripps Dow
SPS Setterfield Walsh...................Should be able to hold our own.

Murphy CCurnow Cuningham
Fasolo McKay McGovern................Boom or bust here, against a tight-know RFC back-line. Spook them early and we're up an running.

Fisher ECurnow Thomas O'Brien.....Not sold on Gibbons or Polson. Still happier to see O'Brien involved for now.

Best 22 missing - Docherty, Marchbank, Pickett, Kreuzer and Williamson.
Harker the accurate one, only 1 off - Gibbons in for LOB.

Come on now. :) Reckon most of us would have got at least 21/22 right. Some probably 22/22.

O'Brien wasn't in the picture for the clubs' reasons, but can still see the team being arranged to fit him in without us missing a beat.

In the meantime though, good luck to Gibbons and by default for us. Would love to see him with another 3 goals tomorrow night.

Astbury reads the ball well and is great one on one but Curnow is a freak. McGovern is probably the better match up but Broad is more a half back flanker and Grimes to small for McKay I reckon. They are reluctant to play Rance up the ground so he may likely get gov they may roll the dice and play Broad on Curnow which I bloody hope not because as much as broad has a crack that would be a mauling.

I reckon you guys will do very well this year you have some good tall forward options a fair bit of speed and decent mids Cripps is a jet. The biggest area for concern would be your back half in terms of size but I reckon you guys are going to surprise a lot of good teams this year.
You don’t think Grimes will get a crack at Charlie, I would of thought him or Astbury would be the two although there will be a lot of changing over during the game. As for our back half, yes at the moment it looks a tad fragile but we should get Marchbank and Willow back in the first few weeks which make us a much better defence all round, and of course we have Goddard as a tall back up so I’m not overly concerned at this stage, as long as we can get some continuity going I think it will hold us in good stead for the rest of the year. Good luck tomorrow night. 👍🏽

Wonder if McG will take Dustin when he is resting forward?

Still drawn to Arr0w suggestion in developing Cuningham into a run-with player.
It just makes sense and would love to see him pitted up against Martin around the ground, although if he dos go forward...execute plan B....which is??? :)

Okay. Time for the real stuff and a Win. I'd select the following:

B: Simpson Jones Plowman
HB: Garlett Weitering Newman

Solid, mature and starting to develop well as a group. Thomas on bench is the extra

Foll: Phillips Curnow SPS
C: Murphy Cripps Walsh

Phillips if Kruezer not ready. Need the more mature bodies in the middle like Ed, Cripps, SPS. Walsh & Murphy on wings are weapons

HF: Cuningham Charlie Fisher
F: McGovern McKay Fasolo

McGoven just and I would play Fasolo deep. Not 100% but too smart and dangerous and needed. Charlie will step up and McKay could be anything. DC improving

Int: Setterfield & Dow as part of midfield. Thomas as part of defence. I'd then have Jack. Can play anywhere but ideally as part of midfield to help. Now a mature body we need

E: Gibbons Polson TDK Goddard

Missing from my best 30. Docherty Pickett O'Brien Marchbank Kennedy Kruezer Williamson Stocker

Need the mature bodies more around the ball. Nice balance and some speed. Keep playing positive football and we are a chance week in week out. We will enjoy space of MCG.

Can't wait. Go Blues by 16 points

So close. Unlucky about Jack though as he is injured. I'll take a half mark for that ;)

I actually think Jack could be developed into the Ed run with role with another pre season of endurance and speed training and would be a good match up for Dustbin no matter where he goes especially with Jacks strong tackling and great footy nous.

As for Cunners I think a run with role on some of the really good wingman in the comp would really accelerate his development up the ground in terms of where and when to run, Bolton did this with O’Brien late last year and he learned a lot and really improved his ball winning ability. JMO

I would roll Plowman onto Dusty if he rolls forward, but like any other side, would need help.

Jones is quick enough, but may lack the footy IQ

I thought we'd only play one of Gibbons or Fas as a small forward. Hopefully one will fire and kick some goals.

One thing that haunts me from years past, esp last year, are early in-game injuries. They are cruel and deflating. Can we have a cleaner run and some luck this year FFS? Seriously get panicked watching us in recent times. No injuries tomorrow night and we are some chance.

Happy for Fas and congratulations to him for sorting himself out.

his best is something we sorely need.
Good to hear Russell say Fas is the fittest he has ever been, this could bode well for tomorrow night and the year ahead. 👍🏽

'We don't want Murphy charging towards the contest'?
How do you think that may play out from the wing? I want him charging to take the second possession out of the middle, if he's to play there.

I see the wings now requiring a lot of hard work and running and not simply for some soft possession allowing one to waltz into the forward 50.
Exactly second possession, charging away from or parallel to the contest, not towards it
