I suppose with VFL still 4 weeks away they thought they are better playing him underdone and getting games under his belt than waiting but hopefully it works to our advantage.

I am most interested to see who they go with as their second ruckman, hopefully it is an area we can grab an advantage, especially with the 6-6-6.
Balta is debuting so he will be 2nd ruck, lynch won’t be going anywhere near the centre circle.

Sorry for the intrusion, but I always post once a year in your forum and it's always the same sentiment :)

Good luck tomorrow night chaps - and for the season!

Would much prefer LOB over Garlett as I have a lot of worrying questions about Jarrod, specifically around disposal. But apart from that, that was the team that I was expecting to be named. I have confidence in our side named to push them. Getting that tingly feeling now! Can’t wait to be there in 24 hrs. We can potentially pull a nice little shock here. Let’s go Baggers

I'm willing to back Garlett in but how much stronger would that backline/team look simply by swapping him out for Docherty...

I want to be positive, but I just cant see us winning despite the positive list changes.

Hope I am wrong and we belt these clowns, but I think we will start again 0-1.

Change my mind.

Best thing is that since our last game against Collingwood, we haven't found a way of injuring more players.
Our injured vs Richmonds injured sort of cancel each other out for this game to be fair, hence no excuses, as both teams have had relative continuity in what has been available to them, via pre-season matches.

Don't feel too worried about their talls, but their small forwards could cut us up.
Backline seems a little devoid of coverage right now.

Their injuries are only to role players and in an area they have a lot of depth in (smaller forwards).

Doc and Kreuz (when at his bulldozing best) are pretty big losses, including a co-captain...so i think we have it worse.
It would be like them missing Rance and Nankervis which would hurt them quite a lot.

But overall we're doing OK.

We need Ed in a run-with role, probably on Cotchin....if their midfield have free reign without any midfield pressure, leaving Lynch, Reiwoldt and Dusty in an open forward line with the ball streaming in, god help us. We struggled in the JLT game against * when they broke though the lines, so we need to shut down their run.

Plow will likely get the match up on Martin when he heads forward...maybe the hardest job in the AFL as a defender, but that's when you need to earn your pay....he did it against Danger last year brilliantly, so we can only hope and prey.

I'm just really hoping and confident of seeing the new look Blues outfit just giving their all for 4 quarters, win or lose. Copping the Tuggs round one doesn't come much more challenging really.

:carlton: GO BLUEBOYS!!!!! :carlton:
Ed and Carlton will have the luxury of him doing what he does best. Scrag a bloke into the ground while the new younger midfield moves the ball around. Thats a sign of improvement on its own.

First time in a long long time I have looked at a team sheet and not said to myself too many talls, well maybe up forward but that is the one place it's acceptable. How many times did we go in with Rowe, Jones, Weitering, Marchbank in one side? With an O'Shea on top or play 2 rucks to leave us a runner down.

Hopefully those days are over...though will be interesting to see what happens in defence once Marchbank is fit.
IMO can't play him with Plowman, Jones & Weitering. One of them (prob Plowman) would need to be dropped.

Absolutely will support and back Garlett when he pulls on the guernsey, every single time. But the discrepancies in his usage are too far and in between. I think he's improved his hardness at the contest due to now probably feeling comfortable with his shoulder again. But he really needs to show tomorrow night why the MC have chosen him over others. We have a competitive group looking to win positions, and half-back is no exception. I love that the pressure is placed on the group to hold their spot from the first bounce of the season, something we've not had for a while. I hope he plays a blinder but as you said imagine Doc there instead!

Can't know that for sure...I mean Lynch is a gun who has destroyed us in the past.

But yeah, interesting that they've gone from a 1 tall forward set up to 3.
Last year there was a big concern that there small forwards would run our tall defenders off their legs - this forward line seems a more natural fit.

Well regarding why he was chosen by the MC, realistically with our injuries we don't have much depth in that position at all.

Doc and Willo, 2 of our best running half backs, are injured and unavailable.
Who else do we have really...Schumacher not ready, LOB is also arguably not ready and not that used to defence...nothing there really.

Agreed.

And our boys just seem a lot fitter than they were last year...please no early injuries like Kennedy and Kreuz last year...

Richmond’s backline are going to struggle against us considering they have to man up and play one on one! Rance won’t have the freedom of playing loose, 3rd man up as he will have a player to look after! If our big forwards can each play to there section of the forward line and not let there opponent play off them! We should be ok!!

Blues by nine!!

Doc and Willo are obvious outs, massive. But as i've already said i'd prefer LOB in and given another gig at HB, just personal preference. Clean slate though, first game of the season on the big stage, best to stay open minded to these things for now. Hope all 22 can put a big shift in.
