Agree, I was born in the late 60s so was growing up in the 70s and 80s, basically if you weren't white or anglo, you were potentially a target.

In the late 70's & early 80's the area I lived in had a more diverse mix
European,Asian and Aboriginal all were bogans
We all hung out together and went to school together
Some are still friends over 40 years later

One of my primary schools in the early 80s had better than 80% of the kids, myself included with one or both parents born overseas, mainly Greek, Italian, English and Lebanese. Looking back now there were actual a couple of Muslim kids who probably got a better go back then than they do now.

That is because people are one-dimensional and thick. The political compass has two axes, not one.

Left/right is just easier than authoritarian/libertarian. If you look at all the 'bad guys' in history there's a higher correlation with being above the X-axis than left/right of the Y-axis.

I do believe that this IS the position of 'the left' - to apportion blame where it belongs and not to demonise a racial or ethno-religious group "in general" for the actions of its fundamentalist extremists. We are AGAINST painting all the same way for the actions of the few.
