A new season is about to kick off. Much to look forward to.

For a minute there I thought that's what being a footy fan was all about.

Instead we have the same old miserable sods bringing down what should be an exciting time.

I genuinely feel sad for some of you if that's all you have to look forward to in life. Very sad.
Hey I'm still pumped for the game!!! I think you're giving more meaning to what people post than what they do. Water off a ducks back. Care factor is low with richo and finnis.

Genuinely excited to see parker and long tommoz. Just wish the game was today and not tommoz!

Cleaned up the thread. Moved 155 Richo posts to the Richo thread.

I am fault here too and apologise. Hard to back out of a conversation even if it's derailing a thread sometimes.

Lets keep it focused on the game on Sunday and any coaching and/or list management talk please take to another thread.

Thanks everyone :thumbsu:
Same here mate! Its like a black hole! I contribute to it in a big way. Can't let it go.

15 and 10 wasn't enough, we were terrible mostly last year which is perfect time to have them play 22 games.
We ain't going no where until we get talent AND PLAY talent

I think Coff’s body told us 10 games was enough for him. Even Clark faded towards the end of his games.
Should we play, play, play them until we ruin them though? It’s a fine balance.

This is the first game of the season. If they haven’t had games a quarter of the way through, then I’m prepared to melt over it....although maybe it just means that they don’t deserve a spot, or everyone else in the team has a tight grip on theirs.

If nothing else the coaching team need a little kudos for changing things up...or do we just go on with the same team that won us four games last season?

As a comparison from last year Brayshaw played 17 (missed last 3 due to Gaff incident) & Cerra 21.

Our two top 10s played 10 & 15.

Statistically all four similarly performed.

Nah all good. Go Saints.

I think we will see a different brand TBH.

I am ok with Clark and coffield missing a game. I will not be ok with it if we get to the end of the home and away season and they've played the same amount of games as last year.

They're both talented players. If we can't develop that at a decent click then something's seriously broken.

I am concerned that some of the mature age state league players have gone from one off season to walk up starts. That's concerning for where the development of the u18s had been. For example I love parkers story but he wouldn't have been a lock at my WAFL club. But suddenly he's found himself in a position where he's better than half our list. That's concerning! He's not a Kelly here either. Some of this is on richo. Some of it isn't. For example I think richo has been hit by injury and I also think he doesn't have much to choose from in the midfield due to how we drafted/traded. However it is on richo to develop those mids.

I am ok with the side selected though. Genuinely excited to see how we go.

Stuv is back!!!

I like Newnes and Sinclair. But using Gerard Healey to back up your point is weird. He would have to be the most clueless bloke in football.

Think he may have a better idea than you or me or most likely anyone else here

I think you are right. The wheels obviously turned in the right direction. It's just frustrating it wasn't happening on day 1 of the richo build.

I think we will see a harder running better ball use side. Some genuine flair!

The new recruits also offer a point of difference, in fairness.

I'd say there inclusion has a fair bit to do with the changes in the game plan. Namely adding leg speed.

15 and 10 was about right for both.

Coff showed early he was talented but tailed off and seemed physically cooked by the end of the season.

Clark was in and out but 15 is a good debut season.

We dont want to Jack Watt's them.

I have no problem with players earning their spots, young or old as long as its consistent and transparent. Both Clark & Coffield were played before they were ready last year and didnt have the quality of leaders around them like teams such as Geelong. To me Coffield is an absolute natural HBF and should have been ready to step into Robertons role, yet the club are doing it again trying to turn a flanker into a midfielder. WHY NOT just draft NATURAL midfielders and forget the other rubbish that interferes with their decision making. Our midfield quality is our greatest weakness and has been for 10 years but we find reasons to draft anyone but (not including Clark). We need players wih some campaigner about them.

Dunstan is playing tomorrow but wouldn't get a game in any other AFL team, he simply has no aerobic capacity.
Ross is the master of nothing possessions. Has absolutley not hurt factor when he has the ball.
Steven is our star but he misses far too many targets by foot.
Steele will go past Stuv this year and hopefully can start taking games on.
Billings a good outside players but still far too timid and introverted for my liking.
Sinclair IMO should be playing Ross's role in the centre, but also shows no urgency.
Gresham a great little player but I doubt he will have the tank to make an impact thru the midfield.
Long is a shining light if he can get a run of injury free games.

So going forward in reality we have Steele to look to go the elite level mid, possibly Clark & Long? Where are the rest going to come from to push us to contenders?
Gresh billings

Go back and see how Leigh Montagna went in year one and year 2.
Then look at the new recruit superstars 10 years on.

Stupid comparison, everyone is different. Dunstan played all his first year, Ross was crap for years.

Correct, it’s just a coincidence that we got the two slow burns from the 2017 draft top 10.

Not slow. One played 15 out of 22. The other played nearly a half. You can get examples anyway you want to spin it. If there was perfect way every club would do it

Certainly aware there are many reasons for it, however the following makes for sore reading.
