A lot of it was sh*t.

The worst is that we basically went in with smalls in the 50, but bombed it in. It's like our coaches went "Yep, let's go small, everyone's doing it!" and left it at that. Utterly inept coaching overall, totally schooled by Clarkson who is an absolute master. The most stubborn, no-nonsense structure I've ever seen. We look like absolute fools against well coached teams.

Gutted for Doedee. No replacement for him, and we just forced Cheney in to retirement.

How quick things change. It's not over, but I suspect it will be a long season.

It's not our forward line. I posted this as the first post in the preview thread

"Win the ball at the contest and run and spread. If we do this we win comfortably. If we engage in a slow play shitfest we'll lose. Can't wait for this one to kick the season off."

Guess which we did. Same old. You can't play the way we have and always do against Hawthorn and expect to dominate. It's never going to happen. Ever.

Fwd line is useless against a good defense. Jenkins+Walker hasnt ever worked.
Walker still captain - can we drop him?
Milera - Floating around doing nothing, had that shocking turnover.
Douglas - One of my favourites but its not looking good
Small forwards - Betts had a good preseason and should be okay, he's routinely uselss against the hawks. The others aren't looking promising in the near future.
Gibbs - Soft

Rory Sloane still our best player by so far its ridiculous.

Pyke's game plan for the new rules:

1. Kick to no one
2. Get tackled
3. Slightly annoy the oppo player instead of tackling them
4. Fumble
5. Kick to a player under pressure
6. Kick to Hawthorn

Three things:

1) you have to be one of the most positive people on the planet to support the crows. Year by year it gets more deflating.

2) tex is finished.

3) if you dont have a tall forward who can take a contested mark you will be in trouble. Need to try fog and/or himmelberg asap.

Some good signs... When we move the ball quickly and attack we are hard to stop.

Tactically we got beaten by the best coach in the AFL who had all preseason to gameplay for us.

Early on we butchered the ball and were scared.

Biggest worry to me is that we have lost our "C U - N T". Had that in 2017 with players like Lever and Cameron - Crouch X2 , walker on fire....

We have no swagger and confidence. Need to pump games into this Chayce Jones kid. Looked great in 1st half and then not sighted again.

Perhaps next year we can try and find a normal way to approach a pre season rather than an obvious hardwick-esque company line.
