Round 2 - Collingwood
Round 3 - GWS at Spotless
Round 4 - Port Adelaide at AO
Round 5 - Sydney at Etihad
Round 6 - Melbourne
Round 7 - Bulldogs at Etihad
Round 8 - Fremantle at OS

In this stretch, we need to beat Collingwood, Sydney and Melbourne. Why? Because we aren’t the most reliable when we travel interstate and if any team can genuinely claim they have our measure, it is Bulldogs.

Hence, this round’s a must-win for me and I think that we can if we stretch their defence and attack with our height. One of the only sides that we are taller against in attack and defence with the exception of that Cox guy.

I am advocating for the return of Markov or Ellis in our defence. Ellis can help us out in the midfield as well (got like 40 touches in the VFL right?) and Markov can be our speedy defender since Collingwood’s attack is pretty quick.

26 but 13 minimum, hopefully the cold change comes in.
The minimum you should be looking at is for Friday which is 15. The Thursday low is more indicative of the morning.

It won't be as bad as last week as the humidity was 90% against Carlton which is why it was so slippery.

We're looking at about 21 degrees and 50% - 60% humidity which isn't as bad but not ideal.

There probably isn’t a match up for Cox in the league. I think we need 3 things.
1) don’t let the Collingwood mids stream out under no pressure again
2) put someone in the hole, block his run, even if it’s someone running to the contest slower that ‘accidentally’ gets in the way
3) hope he drops marks and misses shots
Astbury will be the hole blocker, he owes us one from the PF.
Balta's value will be in giving a chop out to Nanks in the ruck and physically harassing grundy so that when Nanks is back in play refreshed he can physically man handle those slow wobble mids...

hard draw

hard draw
Yeah it isn’t that easy to be honest. Even our double-ups are looking tough in Collingwood, Melbourne, GWS and Port Adelaide. Carlton are our only double-up that are looking relatively easy, and our matches against Carlton are rarely easy wins.

That’s why a win against Collingwood this round would help us a lot in the long run.

hard draw

I still struggle to understand how its possible that we dont play an interstate team at the MCG till like round 17 or some thing

I think its gunna come down to how our forward line functions, Lynch left 2-3 goals on the park last thursday i really dont want him doing that this week

Neither do I or any of us. Unfortunately it’s going to take time for him to gain fitness. So who knows how long it’s going to take.

Round 5 v Sydney OUR home game

1st time we play there this year but will be the 3rd time swans play there

So much for a home ground advantage

lynch kicked 3 while sleeping last week

He did, and i was very happy with that output but my point was that he let 2-3 shots go begging due to rust.

As funny as collingwood losing to geelong was i dont think we can suddenly believe collingwood are sh1t tier and we need players to take their opportunities against the good teams when we have midfield ascendancy.

Genuine 50/50 game
would love to beat this mob but won't be too disappointed with a close loss as long as the effort's there. It'll be good for us come finals...
If pies lose, they will be in serious trouble for the season. Last year they started 0-3 and made it to 3rd spot on the back of a softer draw...
It'll be very hard for them to recover from 0-3 if WC beat them next week too.

All said, go tiges..!

Remember last week was a bit of a shock for Lynch. Star he may be but he has been playing for a backwater club with little support and last week for the first time in his life he felt the pressure of being centre stage before a packed MCG playing in one of the great "clasicos" of the game.

Those couple of goals will have done him a lot of good and he'll be more at ease in the cauldron of the Tigerhouse next time.

we could also own the corridor and force him wide at every opportunity...he is not a great set shot on an angle...

Think it being his first game for about 8 months and limited pre season might have had a bit to do with it!
Expecting him to be off the boil for a little while.

Good point Rod but the first two fixtures could not be better designed to get him through on sheer adrenaline alone.

Wouldn't surprise me if he goes well V the Pies and slumps a bit next game. In fact to be honest I think that might go for the team as a whole.

We need to reinforce defence.
If, like you say, Ellis is in good form he can play as a half-back flanker.
De Goey is their leading goal kicker, then Stephenson and Thomas.
Pendlebury has injury scans.
Adams and H-Elliott are injured.

The Pies like an open forward line, they like open space, to have players like Stephenson streaming through.
You have to occupy the space, otherwise we are done.
Very quick on the rebound out of defence.
I am sure our staff will be looking at the Geelong match.
Kelly, Dangerfield and Ablett came into the game towards the end.

I reckon we’ll see us at our best this week. Expecting a big performance
Big Cut Lunch has a taste for it now, wouldn't surprise me if he has a monster day out against those wobbles...

A flip of a coin this week I think - both teams looked very rusty last week and will be wanting to bounce back, especially Collingwood given they lost.

Lynch will be better for the run you'd imagine.

Obviously, Rance going out hurts a lot. Not only will his quality be missed, but more importantly, his leadership. He's barely missed a game over the past 5 years, so the boys won't be used to it without him. Really think the experienced players like Houli, Grimes, and Astbury need to step up if we're going to continue to push for the flag. Great opportunity for Garthwaite coming in, as well as Vlastuin - especially if he wants to be our next captain.
