Yes king will obviously play seconds for a while but I’ve always you can have 3 talls but they all need to be able to play to a good standard and provide pressure. I will actually spew up of longer comes in and Marshall goes forward. Marshall is a good follower and a average to ordinary forward. Unfortunately for those who like 3 marking players the game is going the other way bar 2 or 3 sides. Anyway midfields win and lose games.

Just on rucks can hitouts even get less important. I say yes.
Marshall needs to play as a ruckman plain and simple, it’s the only way going forward he can get a regular game.

King will eventually play, who knows about paddy but it’s unlikely he plays as a forward if others are fit. He’s miles ahead of billy on yesterday’s game around the ground so there may be a game or two when you play both for matchups and that’s about it.

Things can change depending on form but Marshall is in the box seat at present and good luck to him.

Imagine being the supporter of the most maligned club in the country, who’d been beaten from pillar to post the entire offseason by the media and now sits 2-0 while multiple premiership fancies sit 0-2 and the experts are left scratching their heads..
Imagine.

Oh wait, that’s us.

Just wanted to share this from our game review. Hope you guys enjoy.

There was a moment that kind of made me sick in the third quarter, when Dyson Heppell took a handball from Mark Baguley and snapped a goal.

“A captain’s goal!” barked one of the commentators. Yeah, it was a nice snap – I’ll give you that.

Then in the fourth quarter, Heppell took a nice mark running with the flight of the ball inside forward 50. Again the commentators waxed lyrical about leadership and how the players should follow Heppell as he was setting the example. He went on to miss the goal badly, but that’s not the point.

The point I want to make is that during the third term, there was another instance where leadership was on display. You had the two captains in a one-on-one duel running inside the Bomber forward 50. Jarryn Geary v Dyson Heppell. The ball coming in was a true chaos ball, floating through the air to the advantage of nobody.
But Geary made that ball his.

With the game tightening up, and the pressure increasing, Geary took a great one-grab contested mark with the Essendon captain as his direct opponent. The unsung St Kilda captain beat the lauded Essendon captain hands down, but where were the gushing praises from Brad Johnson and Paul Roos? Where were the plaudits for the effort of Geary in demonstrating guts, timing and leadership? Where were the endorsements of his captaincy?

Jarryn Geary is the most unheralded captain in the AFL, to the point I reckon that the commentators didn’t even realise how big a moment that was. That was the St Kilda captain standing up when his time came. That was someone who leads by example doing what earns him the respect of his players.

That, my friends, was leadership.

Anyway, link to the entire game review is in my sig. Nice win, and 2-0... must feel nice after the negativity. Cheers

Surprisingly calm during the second half when the Bombers clawed back some momentum. In my view, they worked so hard just to get to the point where they were only 10 or so points behind, but I knew we’d hang on cos of the energy they’d used just to get within those 10pts. We looked really solid throughout. Loved it

Bring on Freo. **** yeah!

Your faith is much stronger than mine Rors. I was convinced after Q1 that we'd bottled it by not converting our chances and the the Bombers would punish us for it later on. Didn't relax literally until Gresh kicked his goal in the 4th.

Is 4K worth the upgrade? The box will cost $150. Is the quality significantly better than HD in your opinion?
I’ll be honest mate, i don’t notice the difference with afl. The game moves too quick and the camera pans out too far. We got the box as a free upgrade so it wasn’t an issue for us re cost. Your tv also needs to be compatible for 4K of course. Would I pay for it? No. Not worth it imo. Each to their own though.

Will depend on your internet mate. If your internet can’t keep up with 4K quality then it won’t stream at 4K.

I couldn't relax until the siren.
Memories of Ryder to Gray haven't faded yet.

First to say I was critical of the performance last week.
This week. Absolutely bloody fantastic effort.
Commentators carrying on about how bad the bombers were. They might have been, but it was our pressure, intent and willingness to take the game on that caused it.
Still buzzing here. Great job Saints

Marshall was so good in general play that I’d go so far as to suggest that if we really want Longer to come into the team then Marshall should play as a ruck rover who can provide a contested marking target between the flanks.

He was much better but not to Bruce's standard. Bruce was unlucky not to kick 4. Looks back to his 50 goal a season form. Young is putting serious pressure on his spot by the sound of it. Not sure Bruce has anyone eyeing off his spot yet.
Long as well i reckon stiff to be dropped in the 1st place, played well against gc in the 1st half and then faded a bit.

I left home with lots of hope for an improved performance from round 1. I left The Dome We Call Home with those hopes fulfilled. It was by no means a dominant performance by the Saints, however, in the context of recent results between these two sides, it satisfied me. When it appeared that Essendung were beginning to wrest away the momentum from us, the boys dug deep and scrapped out the win. In a word: PLEASING! One thing - are we going to have to deal with that campaigner Dwayne and his blatant St Kilda hatred (god ****ing knows why) every single week?

Also not that I’m complaining coz I hate the shit out of him but was there a reason we kept saying **** you purple? I generally pay no attention to what the campaigner says but was there something in particular he did say this week? Or us just his general nature of being a ****wit?

Well just finished watching game as was at wedding yesty.
Awesome effort by boys to grind out that win even though I knew score I was still biting nails all through the second half!

Gresh was super, wegotta resign him asap plz, Steele another one who looked good whole game.
Dunstan and lonie good first half, faded in 2nd.
Bruce is so important to us, like others have said I think we need another tall marking target down fwd.
Kent looked better, gotta persist with him again.
Think it is hard to bring Clark or long in based on effort last night I reckon, even though I think talent wise both should be in 22.
Slightly lucky to play the Don's while they are down in dumps as I think they are a better team than they have shown in first 2 rounds but happy to take that luck! Haha

Is it wrong that the first post-match thread I went and read in entirety was the Bombers one...? That's why I haven't been here. I've been savouring the delicious, raspberry and chocolate black and red melts over there. Delicious.
Loved them calling us sub par opposition.

Hilarious, I know who is sub par and it wasn't us.

This club drags the AFL into the gutter for 5 years, hasnt won a final in 16 years, not top 4 since 2002 and are still arrogant.

The thing they need to remember, we had 3 walk up 22 injured, Hanners, Robbo, Carlisle, Paddy also out, and our best mid underdone and playing mainly forward.

We also played at under our best, missed half dozen gettable shots at goal and can improve around the ground significantly.

Experts reckon Essendon played well and came at us in the second half, well we just stopped them and they never got closer than a goal and a half.

So the sub par opposition, outplayed, out ran, out tackled and out scored the supposed great team.

They need someone to win first use but keep getting outside mids. They need to get a ball winning mid instead of a heap of front runners who want someone to do the hard work. AFL have made them soft by gifting them everything they could ask for to get them back on track. Even the admin think someone else will do the work for them.

Josh Bruce has had an outstanding start to the season.

Ignoring his goals, marks and disposals, his ability to make a contest when outnumbered is very good. It keeps the contest alive.

We are lacking (at this stage) intercept marking across the back line. This is something essendon started to do really well in the second half and we didn’t match them. With Roberton and Carlisle out we need to find someone to fill the void.
