First real test for the make shift defence with 3 out and out talls.

Lobb > wilkie
McCarthy > battle
Tab > Brown
Hogan ? On the wing might creative a mismatch
Why would Wilkie, the shortest and lightest of our tall defenders go to a 207 cm athletic monster? Also since when does Hogan play on a wing? Good for us if he does, sincs and newnes will run him off his feet in half a quarter.

Reading a few of the freo forums and they are actually not going to be surprised if one of the big blokes get dropped.

It'l be interesting to see how we cope but on the other hand the dockers big blokes would want to hold their marks because if they don't once it hits the deck we wont find it hard to move out of their forward 50.

Almost 50/50 forward to mid mate he did it a stack at the dees..

Lobb is soft in the air and is the resting ruck so I'd say let wilkie get the job and build into the game and run off him. Lobb in theory won't kick a bag where as the other talls have and can

Fix our entries and we will be right there.

Agree
To this point we've played well and deserved two good wins... BUT.

We've been fortunate to play two teams that turned the ball over:
A. badly (ie under little direct pressure) and
B. OFTEN.

We wont always be so fortunate.

We're tracking in the right upward towards midtable respectability.. but still a large way off the top teams in the comp.

As a result, everytime we come up against other midtable teams (which is most of the comp infact)... it's gonna be a real 50/50.

Let’s not forget Port Adelaide were sitting pretty at 11-4 last year, and then...

Anywho, I don’t quite expect us to win, so I feel it’s another “opportunity” game with a positive mindset towards it, rather than the pressure of too much expectation if that makes sense.

Just an awful, awful timeslot.

Book it, we will win no problem at all, Fyfe will likely run past the contest and round arm someone then get off scott free and whoever he round arms will be given 3 weeks for daring to engage the arm guard of the man. Summarily a boot will be implanted into his arse and he will miss 4 weeks having it surgically removed for being a dirty bitch.

The back line has held up thus far, so they will get the job done again,m issue will be if they can sustain the burst and rotations through. Midfield need to lift a little but the composition can take it up to them and it's largely what we do with it and how we go moving forward that will ultimately decide if we win the match. They have belief, Freo are traveling back from GC so it's not like they stayed home, game was a bit of a slog as well so bodes well for us.

Positives a plenty if we come with the right intent and action.

Dunstan ain’t being dropped, if anything 6-6-6 has helped him retain his spot.

Dunstan is behind only Gresham for total clearances & well ahead of Ross & Steele.

Starting Dunstan at centre bounces & getting him off soon after for a runner is probably his go.

I would consider bringing in another tall. Pierce in for a smaller back & to rotate with Marshall in the ruck or Joyce to replace Battle in the backline who could then go forward.

If Clark comes in it’s probably for a like for like flanker. Maybe McKenzie but I doubt it. Reckon he’s stays in the magoos.

Agree there is zero chance Dunstan is dropped, they have a video up on the site saying he has gone to another level, taking interviews on radio too...hardly the work of someone who's about to be dropped to the 2s.

We need to stop worrying about the opposition. It would crazy to even think about changing the forward set up. As for backs I like our run. It’s not like they are going to take 20 contested marks. They couldn’t against the side we played the week before. Happy to play Clark but like you think he misses out

I think we are still tinkering with our tall set up. Nothing to do with Freo. Just think we struggle a bit when Bruce rucks. Might need another tall to help out.

Hurley & Francis really dominated after half time. We are gonna need to really improve our forward entries if we are playing small up forward.
Yes they did. I’ve always thought with a smaller forward line if you can’t hit a target just kick it as a mongrel then no one marks it.

Someone else mentioned it earlier (apologies for not crediting by name - possibly St.C) but I agree. Reckon RtB reverts to type and drops a tall fwd and brings back Ballas. Don’t think Freo go in with 4 talls after GC performance.

not sure if it was me but i think you are on the money

talk amongst the ferals over here is that RtB went in too tall. they felt Hogan, Tabenar, McCarthy and Lobb all in the forward line didn't work and made them vulnerable to the high ball coming in, once it hit the deck.

they might go small like you said, if not ballas, maybe matera

I’d happily do what say Port are doing with Ryder and Lycett with Marshall and Bruce.

Whilst Marshall takes the bulk of the ruck work rest him down forward when he isn’t as often as we can.

Marshall has shown he can do that in the past, may help with the lack of prescence we have down forward when Bruce rucks.

FMD Wilkie the campaigner looks like he’s played 150 games. Reads the play well. Good hands. Good skills. Really plays within his limitations & doesn’t appear to bite off more than he can chew. Absolute pro.
I met Wilkie and young’s old SANFL premiership coach shortly after we signed them and he said Wilkie was the best .. at the time I was talking up young’s speed as much needed. Looks like he was right.

Send Lonie to Lobb. The way that campaigner tackles now, he’ll put him out of action for 6yrs.
