I thought Jimmy was pretty good but not votes good. He must have done a job on someone.
As Jimmys advocate I’ll need to pull you up there. To say JWeb was ‘pretty good’ is like saying drinking whisky for breakfast is just pretty good.

Webster’s like a fine breakfast whisky, delicious and intoxicating

Was Saad even at that game? Hurley was huge and Stringer looked the most likely, but didn't really deserve votes... SAAD.... Really!
Favourite Saad pasage was in the 1st when he tried to run off half back, then saw Parker was on his tail, shit himself and handballed it to no one, which we turned over:)

We talk about coaching and effort, but we had some close games last season, and i couldn't think we would have won that with :

Newnes playing like crap.
Weller instead of Parker.
Long instead of Acres.
Rice instead of Wilkie
Battle forward instead of Bruce.

I think last time Hickey played on Bellchambers he was ragdolled, Marshall was a bit, in the ruck, but he certainly did enough even if he didn't stop Bellchamber's influence.

I think at halftime Bellchambers tried the old fake punch to Marshall, who just laughed it off. That suggested to me that Bellchambers was feeling a bit intimidated by Roma’s game at that point, and I like to think his line coach told him that his opponent was having way too much impact.

Marshall falls over a lot in contact toward the end of games. Tells me that his strength is not quite where it needs to be and he is still a work in progress.

But if we can pump games into him, and his body eventually becomes hardened to the contest in a couple of years, he could be Dean Cox good.

Still see the critic's still say we don't have any influential players and not to much about the team - for instance , Cornes saying how poor Essendon was against a team that only won 4 games last year , people don't realize the team is totally different.

Basically 7 players who hardly played last year.
And add to that Newnes wasn't right
Steele , Billings , Sinclair , Dunstan , Lonie all had stints at Sandy.

Bruce - 3 games - bone stress in his lower back and then fracturing a fibula
Battle - played 6 games , due to injury , fractured eye socket and a concussion.
Parker - new
Kent - new
Marshall - 12 games
Acres - played 12 games last year , however over half of the games he was under a injury cloud
Wilkie - new

In saying this our young guys have another preseason under there belts and it is showing - I was hoping this would happen last year but the injuries killed us.

Now we have had a couple games to get some cohesion , it is all up to the players to keep on improving and it looks like are capable of a hell of a lot more.

Just having Billings picking up 28 touches a game on a wing , Gresham showing that he can play in the middle , Steele improving in every game and having 2 good tall marking targets up forward with our new small forwards it is a whole new side.

This week will be hard because any game in the west is hard.

I expect us to win by 4 goals

That bit by Cornes was amusing. Went on to say “take nothing away from the saints”. Mate that is exactly what you were doing just before you said that.

Wouldn’t worry it , the less they say the better .

Remember the“ experts “ had Melbourne & Bombers both top 4.

Just keeping winning games.

Marshall is a still very skinny up close. I think someone said players like Sean Darcy are 120 kgs. Rowan would be lucky to be 90.

I’m sure it’s mentioned somewhere in the previous 29 pages but Parkers bump on Mcgrath was superb.

He’ll have a lot of defenders on edge this season, to have skill & flair with aggression is very rare.

I’m sure he outmuscled McGrath to protect the drop zone and take the mark before he kicked his goal.

The 2016 number 1 draft pick won’t forget him in a hurry. That’s for sure.

VOTES
PLAYER (CLUB)
10 Jade Gresham (STK)
5 Jimmy Webster (STK)
4 Adam Saad (ESS)
4 Sebastian Ross (STK)
3 Jack Sinclair (STK)
2 Jarryn Geary (STK)
1 Dylan Shiel (ESS)
1 Michael Hurley (ESS)

No idea what one of the coaches was watching to have Saad as second best on the field.

And no Billings? WTF???

Saad was rubbish!

Bruce had the better of Hurley. We made him look good with poor decision making or long bombs which Hurley would eat all day for breakfast. When we kicked to Bruce’s advantage he dominated him.
14 marks...discount all the backward/switch kicks

And if you count the number of times marks get replayed, then Bruce is currently leading 1,488 to 14.

Pretty sure he was locked down on Tippa

JWeb & Dmac were switching on Tippa & shut him out comprehensively.

I though Webby in particular was fantastic. In my best 4 behind Gresh, JB & Steele.

I like Cornes as a commentator. He was just stating facts - we did only win 4 games last year and it's only round 2 so there's not a lot of form to go on yet. Essendon were very poor while we were good. Have another look at the 2017 Richmond win, Richmond were atrocious, not to take anything away from the Saints.

I like the fact that we are rising up without being media luvvies, hope it continues until we're the most feared club in the land. I actually don't feel comfortable with ex Saints doing the commentary.

But that's me.

It would be good for recruitment especially of kids if the commentary were a little more respectful. But no doubt it will be when they can't ignore our strength any longer and have to finally give us our proper due, even the jackals that despise us. Part of me can't wait.

Loved on Saturday post game they were trashing the Bombers then threw to roaming Dal Santo and I think it was Lyon who said “Dal wants to talk about the Saints”.

Having a couple of media darlings who are prepared to throw the spotlight on the Saints when we do well isn’t going to hurt.

I was one of them and lets just say seeing that tackle was significantly pleasing.
So are the commentators like Purple and Wallace who said recruiting Billy Slater was a publicity stunt going to revisit their critisism?

Lol.

Watch Slater up close with one of the games best tacklers, Aaron Hamill. First he explained the routine and then took the players through his revised tackling drill, using his RL skills adapted to AFL.

His body positioning and centre of gravity when about to tackle is incredible to watch.

And it is not just tackling. The body positioning is used to off balance the player with the ball with pushes etc.

Really impressive. So impressive we have won the tackling count in all 4 games so far.

Not bad for a publicity stunt.

He must have the proverbial "heavy bones" then because he's listed @ 104KG's on the Saints website.

Some people would describe drinking whiskey for breakfast as pretty bad!!!
