The ones in the Power side who I think can hurt us are-

Robbie Gray- IMO Darcy Gardiner is the perfect match up, can compete with Gray on the ground and in the air.
Paddy Ryder- He's has great athleticism and can jump over other rucks, I'd like to see The Big O take him for most of the center bounces.
Travis Boak/Tom Rockliff- If needed we have Mitch Robinson and/or Jarrod Berry to nullify these 2 if they are causing damage.
Justin Westhoff- Harris Andrews has him covered.

Apparently their 1st year draftees have been very good ie. Connor Rozee, Zac Butters and Xavier Duursma, I'll back our team defensive structure to bring them back to earth.

I'd have loved us to draft Duursma. Super talent.

I reckon if we get the opportunity to have Berry run with Rock we should take it. He'll learn a lot in terms of positioning himself to win the ball, but unlike rocky will be able to deliver defensively too.

Think about it this way; we won against the eagles because of the conditions and because they didn’t have their full squad, we won against North because one of our talls who normally doesn’t score every game scored. We only won against North because Cameron’s opponent got injured.

Those talls need to step up in terms of scoring, as they won’t have an excuse this weekend given that Ports players are usually slower on the field. If they can’t get the lead then it’s not good.

Haha, get stuffed. This shows you clearly don't understand football.

Yer, I loved those Power recruits, they did very well to snag all 3.

I don't mean to pile on; others have addressed that rather simplistic first line.

In terms of the second line, we're getting an okay return from our talls. We got four out of McStay, Hipwood and McInerney. For comparison, Port didn't get a single goal from a tall forward last weekend.

Our tall forwards aren't going to be our most potent scoring weapon because frankly they're just not that good. We need them to play strategic and somewhat selfless roles and that's exactly what they're doing. And at least so far they're scoring enough that obviously it's not hurting us.

We only won the first two rounds because we kicked higher scores than the other teams.

To be fair on Grundy, he got on top in that Etihad reverse fixture. Their midfield completely took over in the second half because of his quality work.

Stef is underappreciated only because of his age. Gawn told Fox that he’s had ‘nil-all’ draws with Stef over the years, which is a pretty impressive compliment given how good Gawn has become as a footballer.

Step had, easily, the better of Grundy in the first half and, over the day, had the better stats.

Win to Steph over all IMO.

Grundy's effort in the second half to come back from six quarters of Steph having the better of him shows Grundy is a good player

If Berry can run with Fyfe -and beat him - he can run with anyone. Rocky will be a challenge but confident Berry can limit his impact

I hope you truly don't think it's as simple as that.

For the North game I do think there's an element of that. Cameron only made as big of an impact as he when his opponent was taken off the field with injury. Without those goals it could've gone the other way. Adding to that, the game could've been ours a lot quicker has in the first quarter providing our forwards took the lead instead of being kept behind. Whilst not every time was it their fault, it did look like there was more effort needed.

Why would we think of it that way?

In all honesty, just playing devils advocate, not 100% serious, but I also don't 100% agree with the post I was responding to. The next few weeks should prove what I've written wrong if everything goes to plan. We still didn't face a full strength, fully fit West Coast outfit and things could've been a lot different in the final term with North, but injuries are part of the game.

You ever heard of team football mate?
Haha, get stuffed. This shows you clearly don't understand football.

I find it funny whenever people try to point out that somebody doesn't understand football. You really can't understand how much knowledge I have on the game and it's pathetic to try and guess based on one post. Notice how I've posted over three hundred times, you would've seen some of them here, it's laughable that you've chosen now to try and point this out after a hot take which I've admitted above I'm not 100% serious about.

I don't really mind if you "pile on" as long as you aren't going as far as Rubix where he tries to discount or bypass someone's points by insulting and questioning the knowledge they have. As long as you can provide a valid point, which you have, that's fine by me.

As I've already said above not 100% serious about the first line, a few people forget that I'm a Lions fan and I wish I didn't see things from this perspective, but I do think we need to get more score out of our talls than what we are getting. One of the failings that we are still carrying from previous seasons is the lack of "winning" first quarters, and I think the key to that is getting our forwards to lead more early on in games and take those marks that are sent from centre clearances.

I do agree with you on the output they have given around the ground. A lot of people who replied to my post I feel glossed over that I criticized their scoring ability, not what they provide around the ground. I was a critic of McStay to the point where last season I said things along the lines of that he should just be played in the backline unless he can kick an extra goal a game. Managed to exceed my expectations by doing more work around the ground for that extra goal. Hipwood doing more around the ground is also a nice bonus skill to have.

Maybe the extra scoring will come over time, another season or so, unless we manage to do it

I guess the criticism stems partly from statements that attribute our victories to what the opponent didn't do/have and remains silent on the things we DID do.

I think it's oversimplifying the 2 victories. You are welcome to be in the "I'm not convinced yet" camp by all means, but taking a broadside at the effort, endeavour and outcomes generated by our guys and instead relegating that to irrelevance isn't going to endear your assessment to many people.

You can say the same about the premiers at the end of each year.

No you can't. Richmond (5th) beat GWS (3rd) in Round 18 of 2017. I suspect it'd happen more often than not, though it doesn't look like West Coast did it last year.

Last week I went in to the game not feeling overly confident and it served me well - this week feeling more confident about our chances and frankly that makes me nervous!

I can cure that nervousness WA Lion - go to the omniscient, omnipotent Google and type in "Roaring Lions", view some images/gifs.

THEN type in Google "Roaring Power" and see what images come up.

Assess which of the two sets of images is more fierce, powerful, awesome and belongs atop the Darwinian pyramid under the moniker "Apex Predator".

I'm SURE that will make you feel less nervous :)

If people want to boo Rocky thats ok - if I was at the ground I wouldn't. He didn't enjoy the best of times at Brisbane but he always played his heart out and wanted the best for the club.

I'm glad to see he has returned to some good form but hope he has a quiet game Saturday night. I actually think he would make a good forward pocket in final years of his career. Very strong one on one and although not a long kick he is accurate.

We only won the first two rounds because we kicked higher scores than the other teams.
Last year we kicked nearly as high scores as the other team and I've heard we almost won a bunch of those games. So I think the correlation checks out.

(and I didn't post enough GG in the Music Thread, which is a correlation that you've overlooked Jiv, but I forgive you :P)

This is where I have to disagree. The stories around about what he and his mate Pearce Hanley did to a lot of the younger players is disgraceful and does not demonstrate as someone wanting the best for the club.
