It’s fine to have an observation but it’s also fine to question it. Who has been disgruntled over the last 5 years. We have lost bugger all players so I’m confused. The way I see it from a fair bit of experience is this. Players who know they aren’t yet good enough to play ones like the coach. Players who think they are good enough to play ones but don’t them don’t like the coach. Regular senior players like the coach. Certainly been happening since 1996 and I would guess 100 years earlier than that

I’m of the opinion that coaches should play their favourites.
Provided this is based on them being their best players not their best mates.
Of course coaches are going to think player x is better than player y. That’s what they’re paid for and too bad if some players feel disappointed
This notion that it’s the coach that is responsible for the player’s is garbage.
So does it also imply that a good coach will make everyone good - absolutely not
