I sort of get what you're saying, but the reality is very different.Fogarty’s has two major deficiencies that need development, aerobic fitness base and he does not find the footy enough. Playing him in the backline will allow him to develop those aspects of his game more than if he was played as a forward with a defender constantly on his back.
For the record, I think he is a great forward prospect but he needs to get MUCH fitter and he needs to develop his ball getting ability. In the long run, playing games this early in his career in defense will help his development. It’s not about here and now but the long terms with these kids.
We have 2 promising tall forwards in the 2s, it is nonsensical to play either one in defence. He's been woeful 2 weeks in a row, don't let stats fool you he was horrid last week too.
We also have to think about developing an understanding between those 2 along with Stengle, Davis and co. They are parts of the future of the club.
