McKay is leading the comp in contested marks

Weitering is leading the comp in intercept marks and contested marks in defence

Fisher is second in the comp for ground ball gets inside-50

Cripps is leading the comp in tackles, ground ball gets, clearances, and pressure acts in defence

**** all that - sack bolts!!

My first opinion is that your assertion is sheep urine, but I'll be objective and surmise that the reality may reside somewhere in between; namely, that ones ability to remain poised under pressure is both learned, in a footy environment whether on or off field, as well as via cumulative experiences acquired well before entering an AFL system.

If the above be true, then while it may be theoretically possible to teach composure 100% of the time, it seems pragmatically unrealistic given the time it would take; and the pressures imposed on list turnover. However, I know little of these things, so please feel free to advance your reasoning; I promise I'll review your argument objectively, fairly, and with sincere and appreciative interest. :)
What an elaborate way to say 'nah, probably not, I reckon.'

I for one am glad that you're here spinning absolute nonsense with a ball of yarn painted gold, rather than convincing people of clout you have any demonstrated knowledge of developmental psychology, neuroscience or any form of formal management training or experience to impart.

I trust your verbosity will serve you well as you continue to speak down to people, and come up with inexplicable hot takes based on the kind of arithmetic that sees 12 year olds get scolded. Perhaps it'll even confuse people for a second before they invariably turn your world upside down.

Honestly, if you could just save everyone the time and effort and shuffle over to a dodgy subreddit somewhere that'd be great. Or maybe just start hissing like a cat every time someone makes you feel inadequate? Your call.

I sometimes wonder how put Simpson be in the forward line. Just something different. I feel daisy could be a better option in the forward line

I completely agree. Thomas is throwing his body around, tackling and giving 110% every game. He's also a natural forward. Will probably provide more pressure inside forward 50 which could help our players further down the ground.

The move will probably rely on Williamson's return. A backline of Jones, Weitering, Marchbank, Plowman, Newman, Williamson and Simpson allows Thomas to push forward.

Other option is Garlett returns to defense.

The question is would you rather Garlett back with Thomas forward or Thomas back with Gibbons or Polson forward?

Because I'm sometimes reckless with my mental health, I decided to have a read of the Swans autopsy thread. (All dozen pages. Do they actually have any supporters?)

Apparently because they had 100 more dinky 5 mt kicks than us, it was a thrashing of immense proportions. The dastardly Victorian Umpires cruelled them, as usual. Buddy must not be fit, otherwise Jones couldn't have towelled him so easily.

While the consensus is that Heeney and Zac Jones were the most influential players (I don't disagree), it was nice of 'that Carlton player' to gently lower Papley to the ground. They don't seem to know who Cripps is.

No mention of the 4-7 goals they got from those Victorian umpires dubious decisions, no mention of the easy shots for goal the blues missed. No mention of the long periods of time we controlled the game with some genuine run and dash.

They played 'crap', but as it was 'only Carlton', they got away with it. They seemed to like the diabolical rolling maul they turn the game into. Maybe it's a result of being brought up watching the thugs of the NRL playing their boring cattle drive game and being brain washed that it is somehow a worthwhile way to spend time. I dunno.

I knew you would unblock Opine then wish you hadnt..........:moustache:

So another hopeless year, scratching 4 wins if we are lucky. Seriously... How deflating. It kills all the enjoyment out of supporting a club. We've all been through this in the mid 2000s. I'm 30 this year, I started following footy seriously in 1995...i have seen more bad years than good in my lifetime. It's painful
Pffft at least you have seen a flag, look at the positives at least. Its not 2015 being coached by Malt with no kids of any promise apart from Cripps and Doc.
We are playing better this year by far from any of Bolts other years and yes I include 2016 and 2017 because we are not flooding endlessly and bringing games down to what was our level to stay competitive.

Not sure you can teach composure. You either have it or you don't.
Don't know about teach but it's something a player can learn for themselves by watching replays, feedback, etc. In other words if they are made aware of it and take steps to relax the mind during play. Doubt they will match a naturally composed player but should be able to improve on it. Experience is another factor. Most people in any job will be calmer than a rookie.

Worth repeating.

We argue with the umpires more than any team in the competition.

It’s a losers mentality to complain and make excuses when something doesn’t go your way rather than taking responsibility and moving on to the next contest.

Starts at the top and I am looking straight at Patrick Cripps as the captain, and Kade Simpson. They are supposed to be on field leaders and they are a couple of the worst offenders.

Stop the losers behaviour and set a better example for our young team. This needs to be stopped now.

The umpires will sort you out quick smart if you’re lippy towards them. I can’t say I’ve noticed a problem.

Now if you said me that’s another story.;)

I see alot of people talking about LoB and saying he isnt upto it. I think at the end of last year we saw enough to suggest he has enough afl quality traits that he will be an ok player. What we also saw is a bloke that doesnt like contact. At times last year he was trying to avoid it, to the point u might say he is soft.
this kind of player is never going to be a contested beast. different players have different strengths. And that isnt one of his. But he has to get harder at the contest than what he has shown so far.

There are 3 players in the afl I would compare his game style to- polec, scully and gaff. Looking at their stats polec took 7 years of afl to start winning consistently over 20 touches and gaff took 4 years.

I think the guy just needs games to learn the running patterns and how to find the footy. He will be fine after that. JMO
The last 2 games of last year he looked to have found his footing and was playing more consistently than Dow, he had 22 and 20 disposals in those games.

One of the games was against the Bulldogs and until that point I'd been thinking that we should have taken Ed Richards, who was a similar player who we were apparently considering with pick 10. That game though changed my mind, Lochie was better on the day and better again the next week.

I was kind of surprised that he wasn't thought of as best 22 at the start of the year, especially with the likes of Garlett and Gibson's slotting into the team.

When you compare his base (or advanced) stats to Ed's they seem to be tracking pretty similarly.

Ed Richards:

DISPOSALS: 13.3
KICKS: 7.7
HANDBALLS: 5.6
MARKS: 2.5
TACKLES: 2.3
GOALS: 0.4

Lochie O'Brien:

DISPOSALS: 13.8
KICKS: 9.3
HANDBALLS: 4.5
MARKS: 4.2
TACKLES: 1.4
GOALS: 0.1

Bolton mentions composure at Pressers when he talks about areas of the game where we could get better. It’s a bit of a conundrum given how well we did this in his first two seasons. We had it down pat and now it’s disappeared from our game.

More practice required as the list turnover has clearly cleaned out the players who were capable of ‘slowing the game down’.
Your exactly right I was thinking exactly the same thing, in 16/17 we used short kicks to maintain possession exactly like Sydney did to us but this has disappeared from our game and I don’t get why, the ability to change gears as the game evolves is essential and we have gone away from doing that for some unknown reason, Docherty can not be the only one with the brains to know when to slow down or speed up the play yet since he has gone out we have lost the ability to do this.

he also kicks some great goals from different angles, so he actually seems to be a great kick- all the more surprising about those misses i guess.
starts to kick them and i guess he'll be an absolute gun
Actually when Harry was playing VFL his goal kicking was one area I was concerned about as where his coaches at Northern from what I read in coaches reports, yet his kicking hasn’t been a problem yet at the higher level which surprised me somewhat. Hope it doesn’t become a problem.
