Magnificent timing GR.

My primary focus for the rest of this season is the best top 5 players in this years draft.

We also need to look at another ruckman and KPP in the 2nd & 3rd rounds.

Pykie, the spotlight has moved on to you early this season, get in here and do your thing.

I want the best players in the top 3, then a KPP & ruck project around 20 & 38.

Can it be done?

What does this even matter when we can't develop the talent FFS..

It's based on the assumption that there's regime change.

If there isn't then the discussion becomes completely pointless.

Snake_Baker goldy going as a FA and us getting an extra second rounder?

Would give us 2,20,21 as our starting hand by this model

If we can't sign Cunnington to a long term deal before years end then we might as well trade him off and not risk losing him to free agency the year after.

Could you imagine no Cunnington or Goldy, we'd never win a clearance.

In terms of rucks, i'd look to trade for someone like Sam Hayes from Port. Held back because of an ACL and will be behind Lycett and Ryder

I will get something together.

This isn’t the year for KPP’s.

It would be very North like to now take a bunch of them though....

SANDRINGHAM DRAGONS 2.3 | 5.5 | 7.9 | 9.11 (65)
OAKLEIGH CHARGERS 2.0 | 3.1 | 4.5 | 8.7 (55)

By: Michael Alvaro

GOALS:
Sandringham:
H. Ralphsmith 2, C. Dean 2, A. Hanrahan 2, O. Lewis, F. Maginness, J. Bowey
Oakleigh: D. Williams 3, N. Anderson 2, N. Dempsey, G. Varagiannis, J. Ugle-Hagan

BEST:
Sandringham:
F. Maginness, J. Mahony, C. Dean, J. Worrell, H. Ralphsmith, J. Le Grice
Oakleigh: M. Rowell, H. Mastras, W. Phillips, N. Bryan, K. Schreiber, N. Anderson

Hosts Sandringham got the better of the Round 3 top-of-the-table clash, downing the Oakleigh Chargers by 10 points to remain undefeated atop of the ladder. The Dragons were in control for most of the contest in perfect conditions to showcase the raft of draftable talent on display, and held on in the face of a late Oakleigh charge. Charlie Dean started strongly up forward, clunking big marks and putting two majors on the board to remain the competition’s leading goal scorer. Hugo Ralphsmith was the only other Dragon to slot two goals, and was dangerous in each of his forward forays – much like Oakleigh’s Noah Anderson, who booted two goals from 26 disposals. Along with Anderson’s efforts, Oakleigh’s midfield force was led by Matt Rowell (31 disposals, 11 tackles, seven marks) and co-captain Trent Bianco (26 disposals, five rebound 50s, four inside 50s), but was ultimately outdone by the Dragons’ depth. The centre bounce trio of Jack Mahony (25 disposals), Finn Maginness (24, six inside 50s, one goal), and Ryan Byrnes (21, six inside 50s) worked tirelessly to win a wealth of possessions and send Sandringham forward, with Josh Worrell a force off half-back. With the amount of talent on show, the game fully delivered on expectations with respects to getting a good glimpse of the game’s future stars, and the two sides would surely provide another corker should they meet in the post-season. Both teams now go on to face academies in Round 4, with Sandringham hosting Sydney, while Oakleigh travels to Brisbane to take on the Suns.

It’s time to let other clubs develop rucks. Pick one up when they are ready and not getting a game because they are second banana.

I’m sick of waiting 3-4 years on a young ruckman we pick up in a draft only to see them leave.

Hale, Preuss, Mcintosh, Browne.

From the draft board:

NT V TAS

First Half (NT 21-37 TAS)- both teams arent as well drilled as the academy teams, Tassie seems the better team in this game so far, NT lack a quality mid or something, best for TAS in the first half were O'Neill, Collins, Davis, Menzie, Mansell and Viney, for NT their best was O'Connell, S. Cumming and #40 who isnt in the team sheet, so a mystery kid.

Second Half (NT 44-92 TAS)- Tassie had most of the play and seemed to have the better players overall, which led to them winning comfortably, Tassies best in the 2nd half were Mansell, O'Neill, Callow, Davis, Viney, McGinniss and Baker, for NT their best were S.Cumming, O'Connell and mystery #40

overall the best performers imo were
1. Mitch O'Neill - Tas - 35 disp, got a heap of disposals, mixed poss but was buzzing around and had a better game than last week
2. Oliver Davis - Tas - 22 disp, in and under, good clearance player
3. Rhyan Mansell - Tas - 23 disp 1 gl, run and carry and hit some long kicks, was involved in some good play - 19 yr old
4. O'Connell - NT - 16 disp 3 gls, impressive little guy kicked a couple of goals and was in and under getting clearances in the mid
5. Sam Collins - Tas - 12 disp, intercept marking and clean general play, good 2020 prospect
6. Steven Cumming - NT - 21 disp, loved how he grabbed poss out of the ruck, had a good first half especially
7. Liam Viney - Tas - 13 disp, tough half back, run and carry and uses it well also
8. Jackson Callow - Tas - 19 disp 5 gls, big game from the leading tall forw, good marking and 5 goals, good game
9. I.Seden-Kurnoth - NT - 17 disp, mystery kid who got a bit of poss and was clever with his use of the ball
10. Tyler McGinniss - Tas - 20 disp 2 gls, tall guy who kicked a couple goals and made some good plays

special mentions: Rusca 17, Lake 15, Burrows-Cheng 16, M.McGuiness 17, Steele 15, Harper 15

Green denotes other players under or formerly under North academy.

I would be happy to see both Mansell and McGuiness at the club next year. Love Mansell's attack on the player and contest, and a nice turn of speed. And McGuiness just has that look of the rangy tall with good timing and skills who will need time to fill out and develop, but all the tools are there. Could be very handy academy picks.

Both are eligible for the mid-season draft, so it could be even sooner that they're on our list.

Is that our Matt McGuiness with 27 touches and 2 goals? Not half bad for a KPP if so!!

NEXT SELWOOD CONTINUES TO GROW

Oakleigh Chargers midfielder Matthew Rowellcontinues to push his credentials as the No.1 pick for 2019 after a standout start to the season.

Across three NAB League matches, Rowell has averaged 27.3 disposals and 10 tackles, starring as one of the Chargers’ best in their loss to Sandringham Dragons on Saturday.

Against the Dragons, Rowell was everywhere in the contest and won 19 contested possessions, laying 11 tackles for the match. The right footer finished with 31 disposals and eight clearances, as the Chargers’ clear best.

The midfielder has been likened to Joel Selwood in the way he plays his football and all signs suggest that Rowell is going to find himself called out in the top 10 picks come draft night later this year.

APPLE ISLE’S BEST STANDS OUT IN BIG WIN

Tasmania’s top 2018 draft pick Tarryn Thomas made his AFL debut in Round 2, following North Melbourne matching a bid at Pick 8.

And the Apple Isle could have yet another top prospect for this year with midfielder Mitch O’Neill beginning the season with a bang.

O’Neill was his teams clear best in their big win at the Holden Centre against Northern Territory, winning the ball through the middle of the ground at will.

The 178 centimetre onballer finished with 35 disposals, nine inside 50s and four clearances — but it could well have been more if O’Neill didn’t spend time on the bench in the second half, following a big knock in the third quarter.

Continued in the link above.

Our academy prospect

Oliver Burrows-Cheng played an important role in the midfield, winning 17 disposals and laying seven tough tackles, while key forward Jackson Callow slotted five goals.
