So the good thing about tonight is I'm drunk AF and my father in law messaging me "Jenkins is useless" means nothing because all I have to care about in the real world is not crashing my bike on the way home #firstworldproblems #goroos #jenkinsisahumancow

Acceptance is a beautiful thing.
At least we all know now that our coach is a dead man walking.
The team is crap and stories about how great our list is....are just that.
We dont need to wait till late September to discover half our players are untalented, spinless wimps.
Clearly our senoir players are cooked.
So no flag for another 4-5 years MINIMUM.....ironically Carlton is better placed for a tilt than the Crows.
We can all relax now....and accept we support a club without accountability or respect towards its members.
Nothing will change anytime soon.
So no need to get our hopes up....therefore no hope to be dashed.
AFC = Mediocrity. ...21 years and counting.
Spinless wimps is a great band name

Bad: Our leadership group... Walker (Sloane should be sole captain), Jenkins (surely was voted in as a joke), Lynch, Talia.

Ugly: All 4 are contracted to the end of 2021 and have minimal trade currency.

Good: Saved some money not upgrading to gold membership!

Crouch only had four contested possessions tonight.

Crazy idea, but I think he might go okay playing mainly forward. Reminds me of early-career Cooney up there.

Mate hes been averaging over 10 a game, before todays game of being played forward and having reduced minutes from that head knock

What has happened to our rum off half back? It is non existent anymore. This chip around game is getting us nowhere.
I'm sure we'll win next week against GC but it won't make me feel any better about the Crows atm.!

My theory is that the 6-6-6 rules have totally destroyed our game plan.

Pyke used to love having numbers behind the ball which would then leave guys like Laird free to play loose and stream the ball out of our backline. Fast forward to this year and suddenly Laird is now having to play a defensive role and we have no numbers across half back anymore and the flow on effect is that the half back run no longer exists.

I think its important to note that we did not have a recorded tackle inside 50 until about the 13th minute mark of the 3rd quarter. the ball had been into our forward 50 21 times at that stage, and not one prick could lay a tackle...

We layed 3 tackles inside 50 for the night

Going against the grain compared to a few comments here...

I get the impression of a Coach who is frustrated, backed into a corner with his hands tied. A lengthy 15-20 minute after match discussion, players have been told they are losing the contest, not executing as they should - guys are capable of playing the level required, and they are not.

He says no wholesale changes will be made because some of the biggest offenders are senior players and leadership group players, there's just no way he is going to dump on them publicly without repercussions - as much as Blight is lauded for the "pitiful Pitman" comment, he did not pick out a captain or leadership group player (at least not in the media as opposed to behind closed doors). Dumb footballers don't help his cause, especially now with the restrictions on runners, and our playing group aren't the brightest of sparks. Plus I don't think Pyke can exactly say to the media just how shit the assistant coaches he is stuck with are either...

Some people were mocking how Gibbs was dropped this week and should have played - Gibbs was rubbish the first three weeks and deserved to be sent to the SANFL, and should have had a few others for company. On its own it was a bold move and the right one, pity it wasn't enough to reverse the trend this week... it never really was going to be though.

For leadership group players Jenkins and Lynch have both been terrible, very selfish, soft and lazy all four games, disappearing for large stretches and putting in zero defensive efforts - as limited as Tex has been, at least I see him putting in and creating opportunities for others around him. One of these big guys has to go right now - I would dump Lynch next week, with Jenkins given the ultimatum to get it done (in the ruck as well) or he's next.

I think this season has to be close to the worst four games I have seen Laird ever play for the club, although his credits in the bank and lack of other options deserve a little more leniency. Ditto for Smith. Matt Crouch is down on form as well but nowhere near to the same extent - he was gasping for air a bit tonight, not sure if it was possibly flu or fitness related. Regardless, while down on form these guys stay - for now.

Murphy is not enough of a goal threat to be in the squad, we need someone who applies defense pressure but also hits the scoreboard! Hartigan is way out of form and has no confidence, he cannot read the flight of the ball in the air, misjudges body contact - Keith has effectively replaced him, not sure why he is still being picked. Atkins was a turnover merchant in the first half, picked up later in the game in that regard but still avoids contact like it's a cause of leprosy. Dropping all of them next week should be well in the realms of possibility. Jones may well be out with that concussion too so that should open up another spot. MacKay was not the worst offender, but apart from the stellar game against Sydney has there been enough form to warrant his continued gold pass with the selection group?

Greenwood should come in automatically, McHenry should be included for some speed and reckless abandon. Bring in Fog and play him as a forward FFS! Add another two to three based on form and balance, be it Gibbs, Galucchi, whoever was in the best in the SANFL and is the best matchup for Gold Coast next week. No wholesale changes there, just creative and/or necessary ones to try and get this season back on track - or at least to start blooding future players.

I have been banging on about this for 18 months, we're way too top heavy and slow in our forward line.

The moment the ball hits the ground Walker, Jenkins and Lynch become completely useless. They provide zero defensive pressure as they have absolutely no pace whatsoever. The other issue is that Eddie has lost a yard and Murphy is just not up to it.

Put all of that together and you have the problem that we currently face where the ball hits the ground and the opposition are easily able to run the ball out of our 50. You can't tackle and provide defensive pressure on the opposition when you're forward line is as slow as molasses.

I hope I'm wrong, but my gut feeling is that the new 6-6-6 rules have nullified Laird as a player.

The new rules have meant that Laird now has to play a defensive role and no longer has the luxury of having players behind the ball to enable him to be able to play loose behind to ball.

Honestly I hope I'm wrong, but every week it seems to be the same story. I suspect Pyke is going to have to come up with a game plan that reinvents Laird because he's just not the same player he was 12 months ago.

When I did my predictor 3 weeks ago I had you guys second. The team is so good on paper, your home ground advantage is another thing that had me rating you all so well.

Whats going on across there?
Coach won't play young players. He will be fired before year is out I feel. Poor excuse for a coach.

Agree. It's bloody painfully obvious except to Pyke. Either he is scared to drop Walker, Jenkins, Lynch, Betts or been told he cannot by seniors above. Messed up situation. Heading for bottom 2 or 3 if this continues. Lowest ebb for the club for some time.

Pyke has to do something.

First change for our forward line MUST for Stengle to come into the side. It should have happened two weeks ago, but the time has come for the change.

I don't think Walker or Jenkins can play together inside the 50 anymore, their lack of defensive pressure is absolutely killing the team. I think Jenkins needs to be dropped and Walker has to play as a lead out forward from the goal square much like how Geelong use Tom Hawkins.

I would also bring in Greenwood, even if we play him up forward.

I predict we won't beat anyone except bottom 4 sides while playing all 3 of hartigan, Mackay and obrien. So far we are 0 from 2 against Geelong and North with the 3 of them.

We have problems everywhere. Forward line is the worst but we have problems down back and through the midfield as well. It's the perfect storm. Down back the problems are Kelly and Hartigan plus the fact we lost Doedee and Brown has exposed us. Laird, Smith, Milera loooked confused and are not in good form. We lack good disposers and pace down back. Keath is the one positive but he can't do it all. In the midfield we are screwed with no top tier ruck and no explosive line breakers. We must get milera, gallucci, jones running through there in bursts. We need pace in the midfield and forward line as a matter of urgency. We need to get Stengle, Greenwood, Davis, Gallucci into our forward line now. Walker and Fogarty or Himmelberg as the talls. Jenkins out or in the ruck. I would drop Lynch. Betts imo offers little moving forward. Get him to 300 then replace him. Don cannot put his head in the sand anymore and say players are out of form. Don, wake up. Have they been out of form for over 12months? Maybe they aren't good enough and this is now their base level. He needs to solve problems, that's what a coach does.

So unlucky to play 3 of our bogey sides Hawthorn, Geelong and North in the first 4 rounds...
Cats at home or North are not bogey sides. Hawks & Cats away, yes.

The way we are playing we are vulnerable to every other side.

No help if can't get top level drafting right .
Gallucci - Poholke
Fogerty -- Macpherson
Jones --- McHenry
Not going to lead us to any great heights.
It's way too early to call on these players.

Reckon half will be good players.

Fair point. But you would think an intelligent fella like Don would have considered this and would have alternative game plans. I’m starting to doubt he has the tactical nouse. With such a senior list u would think the boys would be up and about just about every week without that much motivation.
Confidence in the Don is eroding fast...with me and appears also amongst the playing group

He changed it to what we saw tonight. Apparently we played 'too fast' last week according to dmac
The only positive out of that is that at least we tried something different. Now please never try it again and come up with a 3rd option.
I like the ‘don’t be shit’ option but he hasn’t given the players that option yet.

Good :? Forgot the meaning of the word.

Bad : The cheating umpires.

Ugly : Us. Coach can't even pick the best 22. Matches are won and lost at selection tables. Sack him. I've seen enough.

I would like to see him under new management first. So someone on the board needs to have the guts to call a vote of no confidence to Chapman and Fagan and vote them out. Allow Pyke to choose his own assistants. The fact we were signing assistants before our coch Pykey in 2016 speaks volumes.

Yep he is our next Dangerfield. We realise how shit he is, so we delist him each year ,but somehow gets rookied each time, and we lose outside qty players so we bring this plodder in at crucial game,

Well I didn’t say he did much else. Considering his poor chasing abilities I thought that stat was interesting.
