Does anyone know what our centre square numbers per players?

Bevo said additional help was needed so he played Gowers and Williams there. How many did each attend?

How many did McLean attend and how many did Dunkley attend not as a ruckman or Cripps tagger?

Why Gowers ahead of Mclean who proved last year he was excellent. My only answer is that Billy is his favourite. He was as bad as Schack last week with a handful of possessions. Better give him midfield time to get his possessions up so less pressure to drop him. Let’s play Dunkley out of position and give billy his job because Billy is my draft selection after I invited him to dinner and told Dal that I am the boss and you select who I choose. Can’t have Billy fail as it looks bad on me.

With respect, TB, I prefer conrad's posting style to yours. When people stick all their feedback in one post you can selectively quote particular sentences to respond to whatever you want to focus on. Whereas with your style of one sentence every 10 mins it clogs up the thread, makes the thread harder to read quickly, and presents part of your opinion out of context from the rest of your opinion. Even in this very thread you chided someone for responding to the first part of your opinion before waiting for the rest of it to be posted!

Obviously everyone posts in their own way. But I personally appreciate conrad's style.

Woof!

I will take your advice onboard for consideration. Clearly, like so many posting, I was shocked by yesterday but had dark forebodings about the team selection, which I posted prior to yesterday. In short, I'm angry and I chose to take a machine gun posting approach rather than load up the bazooka.

When was the last time Bont kicked a goal from outside the goal square ?

Despite the horrific skill errors, fumbles, mismatches, had McLean nailed those 2 late last quarter shots, that would have had us at 12 points down, could even have pinched it, Carlton might well have panicked because of their last game. A bit like the Gold Coast game, had either of Gowers or Lloyd nailed one of their late last quarter shots, we probably would have pinched it or at least drawn. Beveridge calls the missed shos frustrating, imagine what it must do to the defenders and mids to work to get the ball to the forwards only to see them miss gettables.

The 3rd Quarter of the C'wood game aside, the team hasn't played with any of the manic energy that won the flag and finished 2018 for the last 3 games. There must be something wrong, is Beveridge disciplining players and if so what for ? Have the core, Bont, Dunkley, Hunter, Wood, McLean, Macrae, Wallis, even Libba become complacent ? Has Beveridge lost the players ?
You put Dunkley as the core? You’re kidding yourself, he’s the worst kick in the league mate, absolute liability

A MESSAGE FROM A MATE:

It’s time to put it out there. The coach’s ego, arrogance & pig-headedness at selection & inability to respond with creative responsive moves mid game is verging on disgraceful. No excuses. The pr&ck needs to be hammered in the press. No big guys, no Afro at ruck contests, one inexperienced scardy cat who continues to give f&ck all in all centre bounces & most around the ground aerial contests. He plays like a winger, won’t runnto the right places and doesn’t have one ounce of mongrel. Relief ruckman are Bont, Aaron, Dunks. English continually gets pushed and thrown off the contest. Opposition have worked out Caleb’s role & kickins. Our on-ballers have little faith in English. It is obviously they don’t believe in him as a ruckman and they don’t believe in the game plan. We are getting hammered every game & our undersized defense is always under the pump. We attack from the back half. We have no leading targets. Our entries are usually via the boundary or too slow and then into a crowded forward line full of stagnant little people who are not moving & creating space for others. The forward structure & strategy is ******. Selection has cost us 2 games. F&cking joke. Dunkley CHF and back up ruck! Not his fault he can’t get a touch. Wee man has to play around mid/centre where he is dangerous & can use the nut into our non existent forward line. Obviously the team has zero confidence in this set up and are playing that way. F&ck em.

HE WAS NOT HAPPY
Your mate sounds like a clown.

Literally zero blame should fall on English’s shoulders. He is a young ruckman who needs games. The blame lies with Bevo who has hung him out to dry. Even the best rucks in the game have a serviceable tall giving them a hand. English is just expected to carry the team alone each week.

I’m really at a loss with Bevo. The more I think about it, the more it winds me up. Libba forward? Let’s lose one of the best contested mids in the game and put him forward where all his weaknesses will be highlighted. Same with Daniel, Dunkley, Wallis, Williams...let’s neutralise all their strengths and put them in positions they are destined to fail. It’s so inept its almost a cry for help.

I’m with you.

I love Beveridge. Always have and always will. I’ve given him heaps of leeway.

But today was disgraceful.

Every single thing about today was horrendous.
As Senitel said though, Norf are last. So something has gone right.

carlton exploited us. in the air and in foot speed

i have no idea why teams dont try and take us on more often. we are too slow to catch them . and our players dont ever bust their arses off running hard..

my mate whoes a richmond fan said he cannot believe an AFL team is that slow. he was shocked. he says we play preseason intensity.
intensity has been an issue under bevo for awhile

Are other teams fitter than us or just run harder, Richmond for example always seem to have players around the ball no matter where it is, they move it forward knowing they will have numbers to compete, we look up to our forward line and it's empty, other teams always seem to be able to score easily against us from a turnover, but when we manage to create a turnover we have no one to kick it to? We always have plenty of players in the middle of the ground but no one at each end.

Does anyone know about Cavarra, is he quick? How many weeks he is out for? We desperately need a quick forward, Lloyd, Dicko, McLean, Wallis are ok when they get it but they are all so slow.

Couldn't put it any better. I'm the same. Watching us play right now makes me frustrated and upset more often than not and I don't want to be like that especially with a young family. I left the game early in the last and I don't apologise for that.

I stopped watching the games live on tv last year because I just did not like the person I became. Not because of losing but more so from watching the team work hard and constantly either make an absolute meal of a scoring chance or just plain miss the goal. I hated how angry and frustrated I was becoming and just knew I had to stop watching. I’d love to see the stats for goals and behinds over the last five or so years. The dogs scoring over 100 is as rare as rocking horse s**t

The hard truth is, our list in full of holes, and I think we need a complete re-build a la Carlton. We’ve got NO decent forwards apart from Lloyd occasionally, and a Full back playing at FF. We’ve got a few decent mids in Macrae and Bont, but Bont has lost the plot with his goal kicking, we have a handful of players worth keeping. Maybe 10, no more. Bont, Macrae, Naughton, Daniel, Lloyd, Bailey Smith, Crozier, McLean, Libba, Greene, JJ. That’s all I would keep, but the rest of the list bar a few kids that haven’t played yet are up for trade or de-listing. That is a hard reality. We are a complete rabble. 7 goals worst than the worst team of the last decade! Carlton

Go easy there, Hunter had more 30 Possession games than the Richmond football club last season and they
were minor premiers. The midfield got schooled yesterday and like it or not that is where our game starts
and ends, a tradesman will tell you "You can only use the tools you have" and we shop at ALDI.

Yojimbo, there's nothing wrong with Aldi.

We shop at NQR.

Great Post !!! Hunter is so overated its not funny. As l have said before yes he does gut run but his disposals just dont hurt the opposition and as such he is not heavily tagged. His ball movement is so slow and predictable. He learnt to handall with Dalhaus the way they float the ball. Probably the owrst Sutton Medalist in the last 25 years. Not sure what McRae and a few others did so wrong last year not to get votes.

I like Lachy and I think he does provide a lot for the team but you just reminded me of his slow floater of a handball that went over Crammers head in 2015.
:-(

Lol Dunks' dad was quite possibly the worst kick in the AFL and one of the all time worst kicks in the Afl ever. Horrific kick and commentators used to laugh if he ever had a set shot.

Poor old Dunks never had a chance on the kicking front.
Definitely rings a bell now. Well you’d think his dad would be even more aware of how important it might be to get someone else to teach his son a good technique.

True but I think I'm coming more from the accountability side of things. It's he going to tell St Bevo that "This ain't good enough"? as well as info to the fans as a lot of people are seeing as an issue.
Alberti was a fund raiser too. But I agree with the entitlement thing. Just think Gordon's got a bit of that too.

If I hear Gordon, start with the “who was there in Fightback”. I will spew up, it’s time to move on Gordon.

As a dad you have kick to kick with your kids and kids unconsciously imprint. My kids have reasonable hand eye but can't kick for shit just like their dad....they play soccer...

The strange thing is...on our list we have the most highly-rated key forwards from both the 2013 and 2015 draft. With 4-6 years of development, you'd think that on that basis alone we would have one of the most potent forward lines in the league.

At the end of the day
Our defense is ranked last in marks conceived inside 50

We are playing under developed bodies against mature bodies
No matter what we do in the draft, we also draft skinny defenders that take 6 years to mature

Our forwards are made to look terrible by our ball movement, which doesn’t help.

I think Bevo is a clever coach but has a lot of trouble admitting when something isn’t working. Going as small as we have gone only works if you put on extreme pressure.

Having a midget forward line is not going to work if you aren’t moving the ball cleanly out of the middle. That said, our forward line looked pretty good when we got a run on against Hawthorn.

I’m more convinced now than ever that Boyd needs to come in when fit and spend his time forward with limited ruck time. He spent almost all of his games last year in the ruck. He’s a pinch hitter there and that’s it. Even then, a solid body in the ruck is desperately needed too.

People had written him off but if you set the ball up high he actually brings it to ground and in a dangerous spot. Schache and Naughton struggle to do that unless they get a run at it.

Yes Cavarra is quick.

This is my concern too. Even if we draft well, we won’t reap the rewards for some time. Guys like Naughton playing key roles early in their careers rarely happens

There are three groups of people to blame for the position we are currently in:

Coach and assistants - team selection has constantly been stupid, they have failed to fix a forward line in 2 preseasons, constantly pick players who aren’t good enough to get in the team in their main position and then play them out of position. For those people that say yeah but he did that in 2016 and look what happened, did he really?
We had 2 talls up forward during finals (toyd and Cordy) 3 natural forward types (stringer, Dickson, Smith) 3 talls down back (Roberts, hamling, Morris) we actually had a well structured team and well balanced during that final series.

Leaders - we don’t have strong leaders, our captain is out of form, shouldn’t even be getting a game and is in no way leading by example or directing players on field to make up for his lack of form. Hunter and jj, both avoid contests, don’t tackle enough, jj only uses his speed going forward. If our leaders aren’t leading the way with voice and doing the hard things why should other players.

President - Gordon achieved his life desire to see the club when a premiership whilst he was at the helm now he appears to have lost the passion and investment he had in the club. There should of been a football review at the end of last year
Was thinking the same re the conventional setup. Had two talks forward, two talls back and a traditional ruck at pretty well all times in the finals series. Granted Fletch only played two but Morris played tall.

This unconventional crap we try sometimes doesn’t work.

That said, if we get smashed the way we did out of the middle we can’t expect to win many anyway.

That may be true, but there’s every reason to expect Richards, Smith, Lipinski, English etc to take a lot more responsibility in the meantime. If there’s one thing we have done lately it’s been to play the kids.

I’d much rather do it properly, either by poaching quality mature players or drafting good kids, than to end up with a patchwork team laced with other sides’ offcuts.
