NFL 2019 NFL Draft - Discussion

That wouldn’t work. With FA you’re competing with other teams to sign a player. Team has no idea with they’ll be successful. So if you’re after a pass rusher how do you plan?
That's a good point

The NFL Draft Information Trade: How Teams Gather Nuggets of Knowledge to Shape Draft Decisions

Ian Rapoport found himself in an uncomfortable position. The NFL draft was due to start in a matter of hours, and one team’s general manager was asking him to play the role of carrier pigeon.

“I need you to tell [a second GM] that I’m not going to draft [a specific first-round prospect],” the GM told him.

Rapoport, an insider for NFL Network, didn’t know what to make of this request, and he didn’t want to do it. Just tell him you spoke to me, the GM insisted, and this is what I wanted him to know. Rapoport agreed, as long as he could be transparent. So, he contacted the second general manager, explained what the first general manager had told him, and….

“Why don’t you tell [the first GM] that he’s full of sh--,” the second GM replied, “and I don’t believe him.”

Underlying the intrigue and drama of the NFL draft is a black market for information. Teams need to know about more than just the players—they also need to know who else likes the players they like and where in the draft order they have to be to get those players.

Reports that the Redskins are seriously looking at trading in to the Top 5.
Please don't.

We have so many holes, we should use the picks we have to rebuild, not sell the farm once more.

Mock Draft....

1. Cardinals - Kyler Murray
2. Redskins (via Niners) - Drew Lock or Dwayne Haskins or Daniel Jones
3. Jets - Nick Bosa or Ed Oliver or Quinnen Williams
4. Raiders - ??
etc.

Can't believe that people rate Jones higher than they do Haskins... I mean Lock I can sort of understand, he's raw but he has some tools, Jones I see a whole bunch of ordinary. No way someone takes him inside the top 5, i refuse to believe it.

They said the same about Montana. Too weak, too small, etc.

If Bosa falls in the Jets lap at #3 they will be massive winners this preseason. Just go mental on OL the rest of the draft and I'm giving them a A++++
I think the Niners will stay put. The Jets want to trade down and the Redskins want to trade up ahead of brother Jon and Giants.
Niners will take Bosa or White, after Cards take Murray.
Redskins moving ahead of Raiders - they must be after Jones imo. He's a day one starting QB. Lock and Haskins need a LOT of work still.

And? What about every other QB before Jones that was too weak, too small? Were they compared to Montana as well? How did that workout?

Doesn't stop GMs/HCs believing in their own analysis.
Tim Couch is a perfect example of that and how it didn't work.
But GMs/HCs keep believing.

If you're after a system QB you can get Rosen for far less than a top 5 pick. Behind Washington's very good OLine would a great landing spot for him too

If we were looking at Rosen I can only imagine those talks have failed given todays news.

History tells me the Redskins will **** it up by trading up.

Maybe HCs/GMs fear this thing of a rookie QB who floundered under a system, first year, and then try to bring him in, his second system under a new OC/HC. Like trying to fix damaged goods. Remember how long it took before someone could fix Alex Smith? Teams preferring to draft their own ball of clay and mold him in the one system for 5+ years.

It would be much different if I was doing trades, but I'm pretty hopeless at nailing trade values so didn't bother.

For what it’s worth, Washington’s top four picks (15, 46, 76, and 96) add up to 1,816 points of draft capital on the Jimmy Johnson chart. The fourth overall pick is valued by that same chart at 1,800 points.

Good job :thumbsu:

Personally, I think the first two picks being Murray and Bosa are guaranteed, and then it gets fuzzy, depending if the Skins jump to 3 or another team does. Jets are said to be keen on trading down, and the hottest Raiders rumor is they want a QB. So there could be movement at 3.
