What is hardly plays any tog? Would think about 60-70%, unless you have real stats. Young player building, besides, got any alternatives.
Was at 40% the other week

Gives away to many stupid free kicks and plays hardly any tog. Can’t keep playing a man down

If CCJ performs against Casey then he should be brought in to play the role Balta is currently playing. Physically he might not quiet ready but mentally he is lightyears ahead of where Balta is. Would also consider Soldo with Nank up forward. No reason for Balta to hold his spot based on how he is performing and no reason to not try others, hard to imagine they could be any worse.

I'm not sure about that Balta can play all over the ground number one and is quick and versatile.CCJ is developing nicely he and Soldo will get there turn when Balta gets tired.

Gives away to many stupid free kicks and plays hardly any tog. Can’t keep playing a man down

Considering our notoriously poor record in Free Kick differential, amount of FA’s he gives away is not surprising. Nor are they stupid. There have been more than a few that you accept because the intent was correct.

Balta averages 61% time on ground. He undoubtedly needs to build his tank. Yet, he also is a victim of circumstance. His job is to relieve Nank, who plays around 70% game time with a portion of that resting forward or folding back. Let’s be conservative and say Nank is a ruckman 60% of the time, that’s 40% tog for Balta in the Ruck. Then there’s the tricky part, what to do with that remaining game time?

Our forward line has operated around one player the majority of the year (Lynch). Balta will play down there some, but even less when Jack has played. Look at his starting position when he is in the F50, it’s often in a position to drag a second or third defender away from Lynch. A semi-decoy if you will. Sometimes when that’s not required, he sinpky won’t play too much. As a prime example, take the game you quote later (43% tog against Port). It’s because we emptied out our forward line to one big - Lynch (who kicked 6.2). Caddy played that second role because it gave us a clear advantage.

Stats and TOG are meaningless without context. Balta plays a role that may not be front and centre week in and week out, and he may not be the most developed player out on the park, but his importance will be felt at the back end of the year. Nank will be more rested, we can combat the great ruckmen in the game (Grundy/ Cox etc) and we have a kid who provides genuine x-factor.

Furthermore, none of the players on the list have barged their way in through the door. Soldo’s a great ruckman but we lose out on athleticism. CCJ looks the goods, but outside of the game against Geelong hasn’t played a game demanding to be picked in the VFl. Chol is spotty at best. Balta’s got the highest upside of all our talls, and why drop him in a team that’s 4-2 if no one is forcing him out?

The whole point about balta is he is mr fix it. We cant play two slow lumbering rucks so nank can get a chop out. Balta is the grigg solution, get used to it

Two slow lumbering rucks is better than playing with a complete liability who doesn't even know when its his turn to ruck. Im not questioning Baltas talent but he is a complete space cadet at this point in time and in all honesty would benefit from playing games in the ones and then using the slower pace of the VFL to better understand the role he needs to do at senior level.

Well, I am glad you have no say over selections then.

Balta isn't killing it in any position at the moment, to say otherwise is to do so with one eye open. He's having sporadic impact and showing glimpses of his talent which is pretty par for the course from a teenage tall. I think the selectors are happy to just pump games into him while giving Nank a rest. We're winning games so it's hard to argue with them. The view is I guess there's more value in getting Balta experience than dobbing a few extra hitouts by playing Soldo who's arguably hit his ceiling. Doubt Balta will play out the season in the seniors either.

I agree with you we do have too many Space Cadet's , on this board

Baltas will never play an AFL game and is only a VFL listed player, Not sure where you have seen him play

Compelling argument. We will just continue playing a man down shall we?
Im with the other posters, you are way too dramatic for this thread.

Why do people care about disposals as a key/tall? Its not his job to accumulate. He is there for his contests and rucking, not chasing getting handballs and kicks. Do you even follow richmond? You would know we arent a stat padding team, we do taps etc i dont even disposals get mentioned in their kpi’s

So you're with all the other imbeciles on here who genuinely believe Balta adds something to the team. There a fair case to make that he is contributes the least of any player in the competition. He averages 7.0 disposals a game of which 4.8 of those are clangers and takes less than 2 marks a game (only 1 contested mark for the season) whilst not being fit enough to run out half a game. Funny how this is considered good enough and yet guys like Castagna who do at least twice the amount of work and make their opponents honest regularly get abused on here. Again Im not questioning his talent but he isn't anywhere near ready to be a permanent fixture in this team and he should be treated like every other young player in his position and made to earn his spot. We have other options in Soldo and CCJ who can at the very least replace the only thing he is doing effectively which is giving Nankervis some relief in the ruck and if given the opportunity may prove to be able to do more than what Balta is doing, but there is only one way of finding out and that is giving them an opportunity.

Seems only a few posters on here watch our games without their rose tinted glasses on.

Welcome to the unpopular opinion club.

We carried Graham as a full time mid because he tackled despite getting 12 touches a game. Eventually he was dropped.

Balta needs to double his posessions and impact quick smart or he will be out soon also.

Seems many are just blinded by his sexy acts

It aren't like Soldo or CCJ are banging the door down through, only Moore and he can't go in the ruck.I think your failing to understand the point his there to give Nank a chop out and help and his doing that and without it Nank would be rucking full-time a chance we burn him out to.Second year KP player your talking about worry about the stats when he fills out not after 5 games.Like I said he is versatile to that's a bonus.

Then give Chol a go

Personally I think Moore offers more right now.

I don’t think Balta needs to double his possessions. I do think he needs to be involved more often - not necessarily grabbing a possession - but impacting more contests. When he does, he has x-factor type impact.

Think Soldo is only a one position player, and will force Nank to the forward line and second ruck which takes away his strengths. I’m not a big fan of Soldo’s ruck work personally, but I think long term Soldo and Nank would be robbing both Peter and Paul.

We are still waiting for Chol to put consistency within games together, let alone a consistent string of games.

Agree with Tomnat Tigers that CCJ is next in line. From what I’ve seen, CCJ is a very smart footballer. If he can put a string of quality games together and force his way into the side, think he should come in for Balta. Also, surprisingly big physically.

Think Moore isn’t strong enough to be able to compete with ruckmen at ball-ups and throw-ins where it’s more of a wrestle than ability to use vertical athleticism.

I really like what Balta has shown. Think some are harshly judging him based on his role and what that means for his placement within structure and tog etc. and where he is at in his development. That said, hasn’t got enough credits to not have others threatening his position IF someone steps and demands to be picked.
