Four of the top 5 contested possession today were St Kilda players, only Ellie McKenzie for us. You can't blame Mon for not getting there like today at times where there is a focus from the oppo onballers to stop her or she 's just having a quiet game.

Egan is really the only mature onballer for us and she did make a difference today, and Grieves has proven that she can do it also but she needs a season or two for her body to be able to get to the level of the others, apart from that we are weak.

One journo said last week that when Scotty went to Centre bounce that they didn't do well in clearance but Scotty is a contested beast and should be in our midfield rotation more often and prove them wrong. Lynch is another one who can do this.

It's really obvious that losing Sheerin is hurting us badly.
Been calling for Lynch to get a crack in the midfield for two seasons. You can see her attributes in players in other teams playing mid. Problem is, we need two of her. Scotty is so important to that midfield - rather her than Greg.

let's worK backwards then. who can kick goals?

McKenzie. Beautiful kick. Should she spend time as a leading forward? (If so, who gets her the ball?)

Scott. Has good "knack".

Ford - looks good enough. Castagna type role

Shevlin - another good leading option or HFF launching bombs?

Mon - roving a sacrificial tall?

Miller. I was there. It was fun/ No plan.

Grassy Knoll? Maybe give her a go? Just make an agile contest.

And MCClelland can share that role with Knoll.

So... because the year is done.

1. Play Greiser at FB. She may be better spoiling than marking. She can do the kick ins and start a territory game. Look to increase her usefulness and/or trade value.

2. Play Brennan in a Richo role in the wing.

3. No place for Yassir. Ford and Scott are well past her now. Trade her.

4, Make Egan play more like Mackenzie. And if she can't, try the next one. and the next one. Then trade one in. And Draft two more.

Let's see what we got.

(If I see another article praising Egan for basically doing her job to 65% efficiency, I will spew. She was better yesterday - off a very low base. St Kilda seemed to have 5-10 midfield sorts all better than her. Those are the players Grieves should be watching and seeing to emulate, or Mackenzie.)
Egan is stealing valuable development minutes!

afl just has a highlight of Scott and Brennan flying for the same ball. Turn over; nekminit Saints full forward stepping around 63 gamer, Seymour for a goal. 2 goal turnaround And another Seymour poor kick ~ their player goals from the boundary line.

we didn't score enough when we had the strong wind.

I am not sure what Kate McCarthy is on about really. Much rather two players go full tilt for the ball than hesitate. If they collide then that's just a bit of bad luck. Sure would like it not to happen but most coaches wouldn't really have a major problem with it.

Tackle by Seymour wasn't great but she has plenty of credits in my book.

With you. Scoring is a major problem for us. Has been all season. Nothing worse than working your butts off for little or no reward.

Now is the time isn't it? Have to start trying these things. Not sure she is able to get enough ball or has the pace but lets see. Can certainly use a tough nut in there.

ST KILDA has denied Richmond a chance of snapping its losing streak, prevailing in a close seven-point win over the Tigers in a thrilling, wet affair at Moorabbin on Sunday afternoon.
The rain was heavy and persistent in the first half, with the slippery ball resulting in a low scoring start that eventually picked up pace to culminate in a 6.7 (43) to 5.6 (36) contest.

But the win wasn’t without damage to the Saints' midfield, with Molly McDonald going down with an injury to her ankle in the third quarter, whilst young gun J’Noemi Anderson also hobbled off the ground with an ankle injury in the fourth quarter.
Despite the concerning scenes, coach Nick Dal Santo isn’t putting a line through either of them to get up next week.

"They’re in really good spirits; we’ll take no risk," Dal Santo said after the game.

"They’ve had really solid seasons up until this point. We have our fingers crossed, so they haven’t been ruled out at all. So, we’ll give them every opportunity to get them ready for this time next week.”

It was a defensive game across the board, with St Kilda’s seven inside 50s in the first term producing just the two behinds, whilst Richmond pushed a touch harder, with its 11 inside 50s leading to two behinds but an impressive run-on goal from Paige Scott.

St Kilda’s Serene Watson was doing the heavy lifting for the Saints as the ball remained in their back half, with her 10 disposals, eight of those kicks, in the first quarter resulting in 28 disposals and 20 kicks by the games end.

It was a cold day out in Moorabbin, but the game was red hot, with both sides battling it out with the pressure rising extensively by the second quarter. The Saints finished the match with 86 tackles whilst the Tigers had 75.

Richmond looked to be in complete control in the second term with a speedy goal earned by Ford 30 seconds in, but Amber Clarke finally got the Saints' first major on the board. After initialling missing the marking opportunity in the contest, she worked to obtain it back from the ground up, scooping the Sherrin up neatly before slotting the goal.

The Tigers responded shortly after with Ellie McKenzie’s first goal of the match, but the Saints were in it now, and the tensions of defensive footy finally hit boiling point. After a melee resulted in Anderson being thrown to the ground, she was quickly awarded a free kick right in front of goal. Followed by another unanswered major, this time by Patrikios, the Saints were in front.

The third quarter see-sawed back into Richmond’s favour, with McKenzie having an absolute day out for her Tigers, finishing the match with two goals, eight score involvements and 25 disposals and putting plenty of pressure on the Saints. Grace Egan was also a welcome return back from injury for the Tigers with her 15 disposals.

The game was neck and neck by the final quarter, but Ash Richards brought the game back into the Saints' hands with huge goal giving them some breathing space over Richmond. Richards effort was immense across the game as she finished with not only the goal, 17 touches and seven tackles.

Ultimately it was an event of Déjà vu for the Tigers, as they finished the game with five more inside 50s, but were unable to convert their entries to a score that would have got them their first win of the season, whilst the Saints keep marching in with their first back-to-back win of 2025.

Melee melee melee
The pressure was on for both sides, with St Kilda wanting to back up their huge win over the Bombers last week, but the Tigers desperate for their first. Huge tackles and bumps from both sides came to a head in the second quarter, with a melee that earned cheers from the crowds. The Saints came off best in that contest, with Anderson converting a neat goal following a 50m penalty.

Injury concerns for two Saints
The Saints lost Molly McDonald early into the second half, following a contest that led to an awkward twist of the ankle. The midfielder had started the game with just the four touches but was robbed of the chance of anymore, immediately removed from the game. J’Noemi Anderson was also taken from the ground in the final term with an ankle injury.

And injury concerns for checks notes Razor Ray?

Former AFL umpire and now AFLW umpire 'Razor' Ray Chamberlain was also seen on the bench during third quarter, shortly after McDonald came from the ground with ice being heavily strapped to his right calf. Hashtag whistles out for Razor.

Up next
St Kilda will host another Sunday special in round seven, with Port Adelaide travelling to RSEA Park for the early afternoon game. Richmond will be heading up to sunnier weather than what was on offer today, as they take on Brisbane at Brighton Homes Arena also on Sunday.

I think the train was the leading goal kicker one year ages ago when the comp was still growing and like Frederick didn't look quick bit not slow either or as immobile when playing against average footballers. The games passed her now with the talent coming through and her and Frederick should be fast tracking their post footy pension plans as their careers are free falling.
G train was probably a pass last year took a share of marks and kicked some nice goals , she just hasn’t got near it this year looks well off W std ,married in off season perhaps footy now furthest thing from her mind . There’s a few that need to retire I feel she should join them

The thing is though, you could probaly count on one hand the players in the comp who could’ve kicked that goal into the wind from 40 out.
She nearly dropped that mark but she can kick goals that others can’t.

it seemed desperate by the skipper, who had had yet another down day. heroic etc

whereas Scott had had a pretty good and selfless day.

whatever happened they didn't communicate or connect.

but KB zoning off or getting ready to block and crumb, that would have been better. also Scott could have done same.

it just felt emotional. like much of our play. no real confidence. no real system.

Seymour was the same, just corral if you need to. we are desperate in all the wrong ways IMHO - and who can blame them individually?

just watched it again. KB should have called Scott back into it for sure. She had her player beaten.

Hicks letting the ball go over her - and then going to ground - shouldn't go without "recognition"
