Can you please tell me the last time you heard a coach or a journalist praise a player for doing something 'defiantly'?

You seem to be arguing for the sake of it...you don't seriously believe they meant to write 'defiantly', do you?

They meant 'definitely'...and screwed it.
I already acknowledged it could be a typo. It's even probably more likely. I'm just observing if it isn't a typo then its not an absurd word choice.

It's not like they said something like "he deflatedly brought [the intensity]" or something.

Emerson Jeka (5 goals, 7 disposals, 3 marks)

“Jeka’s first half was outstanding. We’ve been wanting him to bring his intensity and effort consistently and in the first half he defiantly brought that. Crashing packs, creating contests, and pleasingly, he got some personal reward for that on the scoreboard. He kicked five goals in the first half and looked very dangerous up forward. Unfortunately, he hurt his hamstring so hopefully it’s not too bad."
Edit: I see everyone else has been defiantly pointing this out.

Reports that he played well in defence.
Could somebody pls elaborate on his contribution and form in the backline?
I think it was more a move to get him involved in the game, get him around the contest and use his ability both in the air, at ground level, by hand and foot.

He's someone who can probably play anywhere he's that talented, Jeka decides his future, it's all about his application.

IF Jeka can fix his patchy workrate to constant hunger and drive, get him into the gym and build him into a man who can run all day but also compete one on one ala Lewis.

THEN
He'll be a superstar because he's literally one of the most talented players on our list. You don't find blokes 197cm, clean below their knees, with a great set of dukes, great agility and speed on the lead and dual footed kicking often. If ever.

Call me a journo!

I think Mitch Lewis improvement will see him get another contract, as it should. Key forwards can take 5-7 years.
Yes there’s a real lack of patience shown toward Jeka and Kosi. Kosi has kicked bags at AFL level in a rubbish side and plenty are writing him off at 21. Both suffer against fan bias of being late draft picks. Lewis was the same before this season. Patience and excuses for average performance seems reserved for early picks around here who are assumed to be stars because of where they were drafted

I’m way more bullish on Jeka than Kosi. Think it’s pretty easy to tell who’s got the the talent and footy nous. Lewis we always knew it was there, it was just the work rate and hunger we needed to get out him.
Same with Jeka. Kosi looks a fish out of water in the forward line. I’ll die on the hill that Kosi should be a fullback. Just my opinion.

Big call.
Kosi has done it a AFL level and puts his body on the line crashing packs and chasing. Jeka hasn't done anything yet. Still young and deserves an extension IF the coaches think that can improve his intensity.

Sign Jeka up for another 12 months and get him to move in with Dylan Moore and follow his every move.

If Emerson would just watch the way that Dylan trains and copy his work rate than he would become one hell of a player

It’s all above the shoulders with Emerson. He is a huge talent

There is a 10yr career there awaiting in the wings

But does he have the hunger for it?

Time will tell

Looked a natural down back but then again Jeka always looks a natural footballer.

There is a 10 year career paying big bucks waiting for him if he makes it click.

Give him a month at CHB at BH and see how he goes. Maybe it just clicks with his contest work down back. He’s better when can run at the footy and maybe as defender being led to the ball and forced to compete he finds it easier.

Actually wouldn’t be surprised if Jeka ended up CHB and DGB was a forward.

A key to this improved effort was the move of Emerson Jeka to defence. Better known as a forward in his time with the Hawks, Jeka covered the ground well to intercept and cut off the Sharks’ forward 50 entries, chopping out his teammates and distributing the ball cleanly off half-back.

Would love for Jeka to make it as a forward partner to Lewis, but I can easily imagine him as a high quality CHB.
I'll be disappointed if he gets delisted without being given a seriously good crack in defence.
Not many key position players in the AFL have his field kicking ability - and in his draft year, he showed real promise as a defender (after asking his coach to move him down back, after coming back from injury).

He has such an unbelievable field kick, would be a weapon in defence

Any vision available from his time in defence on the weekend?

If he can keep building for the rest of this year, would like him rewarded with another contract.
If time is not already up he's got maybe 1-2 more games to pull a rabbit out of his hat.
