2011 was a sliding doors moment for the Aints and for us. Ross had his faults but can’t deny that getting him in went a long way to getting us talked about and treated as a serious club and certainly drove standards to where it needed to be.

He’s a bit of anachronism though - would the soft generation really be able to thrive with his ruthless management style?

Lyon was, and the emphasis is was, a great coach. As Grape Bear said by miles the best thing to ever happen to our club in 25+ years of existence. I'll laugh loud at the Aints for ever taking him back but that's because of them, not him. I'll always be grateful for what he did for us even with his many faults.

I know it’s harsh on Ratton and he’s a good guy and all that. But he never struck me as a particularly good coach.
Maybe the saints are right, but they have certainly botched the process.

Surely they're not gonna end up with Ross? The guy was cooked halfway through 2015, somehow continued coaching until 2019 and hasn't done any type of coaching since.
Perfect for the Aints then hahahaha

the Saints are one weird club. They just continuously keep going around in circles....like a manic dog chasing its tail. I thought Ratten was going okay for them, but....if you don't address proper list needs and football management issues etc, I'm not sure what coach can bail you out..?! Incoming Ross Mk. 2?! Well, remember last time Saints - that didn't work out so well when he decided to jump ship for 'greener pastures'. A definite case of caveat emptor - my caviar is empty dish.

Harsh, but another aspect of how ruthless and unpleasant the industry can be. Fun to watch as an oppo fan though, the stupid bastardios hahaha

Who else is available.

Ross is perfect he has history with the club. He and Allen Jeans who was there premiership coach in 1966 are the only coaches in there 125 years or misery to get them to 2 GFs.

Basically no players remain from his previous stint there so it's a clean slate.

I dare say no board members or assistant coaches from his time are there.

I reckon 3 years out of coaching will have re energised Ross. I am sure there would be a little part of him that has unfinished business there even though the way things ended was messy.

Coming from a Rossco critic from 2015 on, I'd really like him to get another shot. He needed to go from Freo - he had played his best hand and it wasn't coming again. But he can coach, and the time out of the game and the evolution in player management means he can be a force again if he can adapt. It would be an amazing story if he can turn around the Saints (again), but their list is in poor shape compared to his first crack with them.

Mmm. I saw Wilson ask Ross why he wasn't interested in the Essendon gig and he looked really uncomfortable and mumbled something about it not being a good fit for him. Now I'm wondering whether or not St Kilda had already approached him. Of course if he doesn't land the St Kida job my suspicions will amount to zilch.

I don't think he would have been thinking St Kilda at the time.

Easendon didn't look like a right fit for Ross.

Essendon are as much a basketcase then St Kilda.

Only difference is they had won 15 premierships in the 20th century to the saints 1. And done SFA in the past 21 years.

At least Ross has an association and history with the saints that would be easier to link up with.

Surely Bell doesn’t join that rabble,

Garlic will be done in a few years, just wait it out.

Won’t have to be years, a few months maybe weeks if Garlick gets the AFL CEO job. He applied for it.

Perfect excuse now for the AFL to do what the AFL should’ve done a two decades ago and delete St Kilda from existence. It’s an embarrassment for the AFL they still exist.

Give Tasmania the St Kilda players they’d want, their draft picks, priority access to Tasmanian players and whatever other concessions that are required to establish the side. Then give the Tasmanian team an identity they could actually get behind.

The stadium argument is BS. Just get them in the competition. The stadium can come later if it’s even required at all.

Get it done AFL!

RTB heading back to St. Kilda? The schadenfreude would be incredible if it eventuated.

In fact, it would be a complete headf*ck for their fanbase after the vitriol they directed at him when he jumped ship at the end of 2011.

I can picture Saint's fans like Plugger35 trying to reconcile in their heads the fact that he's their coach again, but realising he's simply not as good as he used to be.

For Ross to have any success he’ll need to appoint some very good assistants, let them do their job & listen to them!!
