No arguments from me on the second part.

They have gone from being not in it to closing the deal very quickly, because that's what they do.
Or maybe they were always fairly interested. Its also the luxury sides in their position have

Maybe we were never in the box seat, look at McKay iit changed every minute. Us, then Sydney, the the Hawks then s, hawks finally chose us

Nearly everything you wrote here is your own head canon.

My head canon is mostly erotic fanfiction based on Trade Radio.

I can only interpret what is put out there based on the situation doing what seems to be a full 180 within the space of a week.

They were the oldest and most experienced team in the Prelims last week.

GWS was 26y 2mo and 106 games average

vs

Collingwood 27y 8mo and 144.2 games average

For comparison Geelong's 2022 GF side was 28y 7mo and 167 games average which is the oldest and most experienced Premiership side ever from memory.

Collingwood is not a young or inexperienced side, it's a real misrepresentation of where their list is at. They didn't rebuild post GF, they just brought a few younger players in and had the gift of the Daicos brothers both being genuinely good AFL players.

Across their entire list (not just best 22) they're the 4th oldest and 5th most experienced in the league.

They're older and more experienced than the side that played West Coast in the GF in 2018 which wasn't considered a 'young' Collingwood side.

If they win the GF this week with a similar side to the Prelim, they'd be the oldest and most experienced winner (aside from the Geelong) since Hawthorn's 3rd Premiership in 2015.
yep
Core of that '18 side is still there
Pendles, JDG, Adams, Steele, Elliott, Crisp, Maynard, Howe, WHE, Mihocek, Cox.

Yuck, no back up ruck if it isn't Goldy.

His value was in standards and experience as one of the best ruckmen of the last 30 years.

If we don't have him find the next Draper, ideally a 7 footer who doesn't want to play basketball anymore.

We don't need to take up a list spot on depth for the first 6 weeks next season because Draper might start slowly.

It's only the ruck. I suppose it wouldn't be such an issue if our midfield could win harball. The solution there is to stop trying to cheat the system.

with our history, and draper's, i wouldn't be confident he a) plays Rd 7, and b) plays the rest of the year

Goldy was perfect. A year to cover Draper. Ideally by then we have Bryan/Draper as our 1 and 2, and we can bring another project through.....

Grundy anyone?

Missing out on Goldy isn’t the worst thing.

Ideally the role being filled is journeyman 3rd ruck who trains good and is happy to collect a paycheck.

There’s a bunch of guys out there, someone will shake out.

It's interesting though, they are a young team and all that, but starting to plug holes with older players. Mitchell, Goldstein, isn't this type of top up where it starts to all fall apart in a few years as you aren't trusting your younger players coming through? Pendlebury, Sidebottom, Howe, maybe they aren't as young as I think
Collingwood are hunting flags and have never had an issue rebuilding good lists.

massively underperformed with one flag in 20 years. from 5 GFs
1/6 and things will get hard

they're on a precipice though
Pendles and Steele a year older. Titch too
Adams' injuries are biting. Elliott is dropping off now.

Daicos', quaynor, moore, hill, jdg - will hold them in good stead, but the draft misses of late will sting soon

At least he won't have to shoot free throws in AFL.

Fits Dodo's Essendon supporter brief.

I want this about as much as Ben wants to shoot 3s.

They’ve got 1-2 more years with this group then they’ll have to start rebuilding on the run like they always do
Howe, pendles, sidebottom, Cox, Adams, Mitchell, Elliott, mihocek, hoskin-elliott all with not many years left and crisp 30 next week.

yeah, i reckon window is now and next year.

they'd rue the F1 trade with GWS now. cautionary tale of trading F1 a year ahead of F/S bids.

Yeh they’ve really got to win it this year, they won’t get too many chances with this list. And there’s not too many coming up underneath
they've got decent challengers too

Lions are strong and will be for a while
Port are there
GWS too
Blues and Dees can do some damage.

The new footy finals show on ch7 (Darcy Moore episode) showed that they will have 10 players over 31 this time next year.
Maybe Pendles, Adams, Steele, Elliott, Crisp, Howe, WHE, Mihocek, Cox, Mitchell, Moore??
You would think the cliff is coming but they will still have guns like 2xDaicos to keep them in the hunt.
They would want to snare one in the next 2 years

Yes I think they'll fall off a cliff quickly

Guts of the team going forward:

Youth coming through (there isn't a lot apart from a guy who should have won Brownlow in 2nd year)

Goldstein brought together a list need and a demographic need in 1.

If we’re not getting Goldstein then we actually need 2 players. We need an experienced pro that has played in big games AND a ruckman, or at least a pseudo ruckman.

The fact that we’re not getting him costs us a list spot, the result may be we end up going for someone like Tom McDonald, locating a ruckman somewhere and being forced to delist Voss.
