Sainters with twice as many scoring shots as us, but we actually looked like a half competent team for increasingly long stretches of the game. A few big concerns heading into round 1 still (KPD stocks, CCJ/Second tall issue, Jy) but I'm feeling positive about another 15% increase in our percentage this year and a couple more wins.
KPD stocks is an easy fix assuming corr and comben come up unscathed later today

Second ruck is an issue but we just have to start with CcJ then reevaluate after a few games in a row

That and having 30+ shots at goal. Let's not kid ourselves, game should have been out of sight at half time. Pleasing fight back though.
Yes and no. If we had have been smarter in first quarter we would have been up rather than 2 goals down.

We got rag dolled in 2nd quarter, but inside 50’s pretty even.

Fisher and Stephens looked like fine acquisitions. Sheez is a star. Lazzaro seems to be taking his opportunity with both hands. Xeri was very (no pun intended) good. Duursma looks great in the number seven. Lots more positives than this time last year. What a time to be alive.

Once again plenty of positives from this game. Really thrilled that we managed to turn the momentum and have a really big third quarter.

Pressure was really good, the slingshot off half back had some really good moments.

Big positives:
  • Fisher was excellent off half back
  • Duursma got himself a round 1 gig. His ability to leap and take the ball at the highest point is a thing of beauty.
  • Stephens was good with his link play, some of his contested efforts leave a bit desired though.
  • Goater and Sheez excellent off half back again.
  • All of the tall defenders showed a bit. Pink, Dawson and Biggie had their moments. Personally think Dawson had first crack at it if Corr isn’t fit,
  • Powell was good through the middle of the ground. Opened up the play with some real slick hands.
  • Thought X battled manfully, just needs to tidy up some of the clumsy efforts.

Negatives
  • PC was poor, had some moments, but needs to find a way to get himself involved.
  • Lazz, Tucker and Scott disposal needs to improve.
  • CCJ had some okay moments (that long goal was so bloody good) but dropped far too many sitters.
  • Jy incident

Actually thought Lazz was one of our best.

The strong wind makes it really hard to properly assess the game as it had a huge effect on the kicks and marks, but I thought we were poor with the wind in the first quarter, poor against the wind in the second quarter, but we were excellent in the second and the better team for a majority of the half.

We competed hard and had some moments where our younger players showed off their skills which is really exciting for the future.

Our defense held up reasonably well considering the lack of experience, but we really need to Corr and in particular Logue to return, we really need that voice down back who can read the play and direct our defenders.

All of our players had their moments during the game, but Duursma, Fisher, Stephens and Goater were the standouts for me. Duursma looks like he is going to be a real star in future years.
