MOC body bounce off Naughton, to clear the ball after a poor Richards kick to goal face
(Great to see him holding back and stuck to Naughton, after an earlier stuff up Stewart/SDK.)
O'Connor had a few really good moments, especially with the ball always seeming to wobble the Dogs way once it hit the floor in our D50.

Gotta get that Collingwood blemish off the list. Mark Blicavs is on 276 and the vast majority of those must have been wins too!

As per AFL Tables, here's our all-time player list sorted by games played - not yet updated for last night's game

One more season from Mackie and/or Taylor, and they'd likely be leading the way for wins at the 300 game mark - both those guys have a crazy record for how few losses they played in for that number of games played

I wouldn't be surprised if his treatment in last year's elimination final played a role in his decision to move on

He's first child was born on 5th September last year & he stayed in Melbourne for the birth. He then flew to Brisbane on the 6th to join the team ahead of the match on the 7th. He was then subbed out 15 minutes into the second quarter for tactical reasons so Tom De Koning could enter the game

Never mind that TDK should have been playing since the first bounce, but you can't blame Kennedy if he was frustrated after that weekend, because of he was only going to play less than 30% game time, would he have preferred to spend that first week with his wife & newborn

This is an example of why I just cannot understand fans entitled and antagonistic ill feeling. Okay they've invested, but disappointment is overtaken by pure ill will, calling said player ungrateful and wishing them harm. Such ignorant dinosaur views, with no insight into why they go. Psychologists would say they feel personally betrayed.

We can go right back to when Leigh Colbert went to North, many Geelongites were dirty. Player movement was not so common, and supporters and Clubs evolved. To the point we nursed (and paid) the likes of Linc Mc Carthy, Daniel Menzel and tens of others then wished them well. Ablett and Kelly left without too much character assassination.

Bailey Smith is no different. At the top of his game, and with a temperamental personality that often accompanies good players, plus hard rehab work, hasn't really deserved the brouhaha. Dogs need to look inwards at their own processes, and adapt to the mental health needs of modern day players.

Had a spare ticket last night but it was kinda last minute thing so couldn’t offer it to anyone as it was already in my phone and you would of had to sit with me and I get right into the game but had two ppl come sit next to me anyway which was nice.

A few observations.

I think if both sides play to that standard the Bulldogs win 7 out of ten times. That’s footy. Sometimes enough things don’t go your way and that’s enough to flip the result.

The 76 points from stoppages for the Bulldogs is, on the face of it, extremely worrying. It means a lot has gone wrong and a lot of other stuff has to go right. Fortunately we have the 🐐 coaching us and he is able to pull enough strings to overcome a ridiculous handicap like that.

On frees, I got to watch the replay on delay, pausing things and re-watching. We got a lot of volume of frees but except for 2-3 they were not unwarranted and I could easily find as many that weren’t paid. Simply wasn’t an unjust factor in the result. I haven’t seen anyone mention that the Dempsey mark near the boundary line happened when his opponent had a fistful of his jumper.

The forward line is fascinating. We now have a sample size of six quarters where Dangerfield’s absence made all other forwards look better. I’m not expecting them to give up on him as a forward on the back of this but it’s a close watch when he returns against the Suns.

A short comment on Neale: those that are patient will be rewarded. The negative commentary about him will look sillier and sillier from here on in.
Accurate observations.

On the bolded, one overlooked factor is that we had easily our best 6 quarter period for scores from turnover this season. In fact those 6 quarters would probably be the strongest of any team this season scoring from turnovers. Cameron and Neale thrive with that space when the opposition defence doesn't have a chance to set. Dangerfield does better when it's scrappy i.e long bombs from clearances.

I also don't think we should understimate the effect of having Miers in and back to his best. He unlocks a lot of our forward line's potential. Even prior to his concussion, I thought his delivery was a bit so-so compared to 2023/2024. It's been quality since returning.

The solution around Dangerfield's return is likely to play him as a higher half forward, which is where he played at times in 2024. At least a better balance of who sits deeper between he and Cameron. I suspect sitting him deeper has partly been to get him through the season. As we heat up towards finals, I also suspect he will have more frequent midfield bursts. But that wasn't sustainable for the whole season.

One player who hasn't really looked any better has been Henry. So there is an uncomfortable decision to be made there if his form does not improve. Dangerfield in for Henry.

I felt it telling that Henry was subbed. You wonder who else could have been a candidate, maybe Duncan on a normal week.
There's been a few pot shots at Close, but he does the yards defensively, and feel he's under instruction. The other thing that annoys him (as he shows, and it is frequent weekly) is when a pass is made to him while FWD, where he is no chance, surrounded by oppo talls for the intercept. Makes him look bad and is another reason to lower the eyes. Close has also often been free running toward goal, note the yellow boots, but ignored for others. Best to hold our fire on Close.

All comes down to getting Dangerfield and Stewart right to strengthen the midfield.

Danger is not the answer forward when it gets to the finals. He demands the football and does not fit well within the forward structure.

I agree. I doubt danger plays forward in finals though they are just managing his loads to get him ready for the midfield for 4 weeks.

That's all fine on close re the specific role but you still have to put your body on the line when it's your turn. He fair dinkum pulled out of contests 2 or 3 times when the dogs then ran it the length of the field. I would drop him for that to send a message but we probably won't.

...their brand of football in the last qtr , moving the ball on at all costs was so much more impressive than Geelong

So the Cats win so thats all good , but you wouldnt be knocking over anyone in the que to get your money on to back them to win the flag after last nights game

You Just reset , and hopefully they improve as the season advances

I agree on Close. Many on this thread have said he has been shit all year. I thought he was better than good last week and certainly kept putting in all night vs the leg shaggers

Good point about the scores from turnovers. That provides another reason why they won’t toss the Danger forward plan just yet.

Why do you think the answer would be Danger playing higher? I feel like it could be the opposite. Keep him tethered to the goal square and have Cameron and Neale playing higher. They are both players that look just as good running back towards goal. Danger really needs to limit his running load if he’s to last the season.

On Henry, there’s no denying he’s in a slump. They do tend to ride these things out with players. There have been small signs in the past couple of weeks he is finding something. I expect they’ll persist with him until it’s untenable.

It’s insanity scheduling Thursday night games at KP.
I would argue Thu/Fri night games with Geelong as the home team sucks arse. In Geelong or Melbourne is madness either way.
Fanbase split by two major metropolitan areas.

I'd say pushing him up high just as we enter that run towards finals, simply because it did work last year at times and it links him up with the midfield more. Sort of like Mannagh. It also clears out the forward 50, which helps those out the back goals and key forward isolation. Ultimately I'm happy with a hybrid of roles for Danger at the pointy end (deep forward target, roaming half forward creator, midfield bursts). If he comes back in and it clearly ruins our forward line flow, then of course you would reassess.

I'd love to see us try a couple of modes with a full strength side and our turnover game working nicely.

Agree about Henry.

Missing Dangerfield, or don’t we count his Adelaide games?
